...or is anyone else a little annoyed by Hairspray proclaiming itself to be the film that comes along and inspires a generation?

Because I don't think it will. And that level of pretentiousness is quite obnoxious.

Not really annoyed since by inspiring a generation, I take it meaning homosexuals. It's a John Waters movie, at least the original was.

This film looks stupid, when I saw the trailer I was immediately disgusted.

Stay away from any John Waters movies then. I had to watch one in the past with a girl I was trying to get some from. Believe me, it wasn't worth it. Unless your a girl, your a male homosexual, or just into drag, his movies aren't for you.

Oh yeah! Say what you want about how fake Hollywood is with casting "pretty" people for most if not all roles, but I would gladly take that any day of the week than the fuglys John Waters gets for his movies. At least with this remake, the people don't look like they fell off a building and face planted in the concrete.

looks like ****...

ill never watch this.

simple as that

Not really, a lot of movies will try and throw out wild taglines. I remember one that said something along the lines of: "If you don't like this movie, then you just don't like movies."

I'd rather watch a re-make of Titanic done by Uwe Boll then then to watch Hairspray.

Does this if Hairspray is successful Cry Baby is next?

I'll go one further.....I'd rather watch a remake of the entire Star Wars saga directed by.....yes, I'm going to say it......Steven Sommers.

I hope not! There would be mass suicides if any of his other movies were remade. Hairspray and Cry Baby are really the only two Waters films that could be acceptable in mainstream, but they still are pushing it. If there were remakes for his smaller films that would be the end of cinema.

Something tells me a lot of this hate comes from it being a musical.

I personally didn't care for trhe stage show and think this looks meh. The music is not very compelling and while it's going for a "classic glitzy musical" look, it looks like it tried too hard to be a '60s musical and failed.. The Producers "'50s musical style" worked much better.

But I think the cast looks strong in this. Especially Travolta. I don't see how any can lose respect for that much. It just looks...like it tried too hard.

But certainly not the worst movie of the summer, by any means. I'll probably wait to rent it. I like film musicals but Molun Rouge (or Chicago) this ain't.

To quote Tobey Maguire when he was on the Today show talking about Spidey 3...

"You know, it's not really the genre I'm immeditley attracted to."
