Half Life 2 EPISODE ONE

Hey, wouldn't it be cool if they sold software ahead of console launch? Oh man, I wish they did that.

They sold hardware with no Software before, that was done with the Saturn!

What does this have to do with how amazing Episode One is? :o

Explain yourself.

Half Life 2 was overrated and it sucked, I'm sorry, but it's the truth. Half the game was an annoying and boring vehicle sequence, and the other half was spent fighting enemies that I doubt anyone found to be anything but annoying and boring, just like the vehicles. The only fun parts come from fighting the combine towards the end, which is like, 10% of the game, and even then it's sort of underwhelming. I really don't get why this game is seen so highly, or why Half Life 1 even had a legacy for it to ride in the first place. They both suck :down

Do I need Steam to play this? If so, I'll pass.

If not, I'll consider it after I beat Half-Life 2, which I'll get to after Doom 3 and Deus Ex: Invisible War

You need steam to play anything valve releases, it's been that way since HL2, maybe earlier. If you can play Half Life 2, you already have steam anyways.

I don't really understand the Steam hate, can someone explain it to me?

Anyway, I agree with EVERYTHING said about Hal Life 2 in this thread, however Half Life 2 Episode One is many times better then Half Life 2. Half Life 2 had a moment or two that you could qualify as good, imo, but Episode One is nothing but those 'good' moments, everything thatw as wrong with Half Life 2, Episode One fixes or throws out.

I've never played Half Life, didn't like Half Life 2, and Episode One is amazing.

People hate steam because they can't pirate stuff with it. That's it really. They make up all kinds of gay little excuses for it, but really, it just comes down to them not being able to pirate things.

Nope.

When I install a game and begin to play the game, there is no reason for the game to precache itself every 5 damned steps on a fully functional T1 line.

I also enjoy deciding for myself when to install updates and/or patches for programs on my computer. I have never had a problem finding patches and/or updates on the internet, and this has been true since google existed, especially if some of the patches and/or updates cause more bugs than they fix.

Also, there is NO ****ING REASON why my computer needs to be connected to the internet when I play the SINGLE PLAYER game not, I repeat, NOT the MULTIPLAYER.

Haha...you do know that steam-enabled games don't download themselves in real time as you play them, right? Precache itself every 5 steps? Are you kidding me?

My copy of steam never needs to be on the internet unless I'm using it for Multiplayer.

EDIT: And you can set steam to not automatically update the system and games.

This happened in 2003. I then unisalled everything related to Steam and I refuse to use Steam at all.

I'm content with Half-Life version 1.1.1.0 and see no reason to upgrade

Half Life 2 Episode 1.
Black Mesa Source (Half Life 1 redone totally with the Source Engine).

Could be that it's like, two hours worth of gaming.

I totally agree. Everytime I go on my gaming rig I AM PISSED that it doesn't let me play HL2 without being online. Now, it won't even let me play Half-Life 1.

Screw Steam, and all of it's games.

You know you can configure HL2 to play single player offline.

Or grab a copy of the Xbox version.

And from what I've been able to find, the only difference between the Xbox and PC versions is one thing: No Multiplayer on the Xbox version.

That and the PC version looks like Half Life 2, and the Xbox version looks like Half Life 1.

Half-Life 2 is laggggy on the XBox 360.

My playthrough ended up being 5 hours and 45 minutes. :o

But like. It didn't answer anything or nuthin'. The HDR fx were nice but like. Meh, it was twenty bucks, no biggie. :o

Any proof to back up opinion?

But it was 5 and a half hours of awesome, and unlike Half Life 2, had a clear progression. Besides that, it looks like Episode Two will be expanding on things, judging by the trailer.

The Xbox version in poorer in every way (poor framerate, reduced detail, glitches galore), and all of your complaints about Steam are unfounded, therefor...
