Halloween Costume Threads Merged

Hey, just thought I'd drop a line here and see if anyone can help me out.

I live in the NYC area and I want to be the Riddler for Halloween. I'm looking to go for the suit and tie kind of guy. So the way I see it, here's what I need:

Green Blazer
Green Pants
Green Bowler Hat
Purple Domino Mask
Purple Tie that I can somehow put a ? on.

Anybody know where I'd be able to find these things? I've looked online but all I've gotten are Golf Blazers, and that's lame.

On another note, my brother wants to try to do the Joker. If anybody has any idea where we can get these kinds of clothes, please let me know. Thanks!

Local thrift stores or costume shops would be a good place to start. Try the phone book.

The bowler hat and tie are easy. Even Wal-Mart will be carrying the bowler hats for Hallowe'en. The tie, just go to the men's section of any store, find a clip on tie (a cheap one), then cut out a felt/cloth question mark and glue it on.

Yes, yes, Wal-Mart is a great place for this kind of stuff.

You could also check out a place like Party City (if you have them near you).

What about the blazer and pants? Any ideas? I haven't found any thrift stores that carry this kind of stuff.

You'll have better luck finding the suit at a discount mens suit dealer. Like there's a place here called Men's Fashion Depot that advertises suits for less than $100 and they come in every hideous color imaginable. I have to believe there are many similar businesses in New York.

The green you're looking for is going to be hard to find though, you're going to find that most greens are either real dark or olive.

Going to a thrift with the intention of finding a specific item is usually an exercise in futility. Thrift store shopping only works if you're going there just to buy whatever you come across.

P.S. Mods, have you guys ever thought about having a Costume forum? Just like fan art and fiction, I think a lot folks here put serious effort into dressing up - be it for Halloween, a convention or movie premier I think there's a lot of cool photos and ideas to be shared here.

The funny thing is, the show is popular enough, that at any decent sized Halloween party this year, there will be at least one Green Man...but at the same time, the show is low key enough, that probably the only person who gets it will be the one dressed as Green Man and everyone else will think he or she is on an acid trip
