Hannah Montana vs. Wolverine!

May '09 is shaping up to be a pretty big month with the releases of Wolverine, Hannah Montana, Star Trek, Angels & Demons, Night at the Museum 2 and the next Terminator movie.

Yikes. I'm hoping Fox changes Night At The Museum (or Wolverine) to another month. Kind of risky opening two of your biggest films in the same month.

Edit: Noticed NATM is opening at the end of May, while Wolverine is the very beginning. Might not be so bad then.

*slaps Disney*

Why's everyone ganging up on Wolvie? He has to battle Hannah Montanna opening weekend, and then JJ Abrams Star Trek the next week???
I don't think ST will be huge. I mean nowadays it's a nerd thing. Plus, it's a known fact SW is cooler than ST.
Hannah Montana is a big big phenom amongst kids (think High School Dance). So sadly unlike Alvin & the Chipmunks, this thing actually is competition.

The only question is, are kids still gonna be goin nuts for this girl in 2009?
Spongebob lasted awhile.... until it started sucking.
Kids turning to Hannah Montana instead of Wolverine= No hope for the youth :(
Their role models are horse faced girls instead of kick azz mutants....:csad:

I have a feeling Fox will movie it's date, if not I'll see it opening weekend.

While i do think the SW is bigger than ST, i don't think you can underestimate the trekkies. Even if it sucks, they will all watch it 40 times.

I agree.

My mom used to watch it and she's not even a nerd. She's 50 years old and told me that she'd flip when the movie came out.

From what I've heard, Wolverine is supposed to be aiming at an R-rating, or at least thats what the script writer said.

I think a pretty large portion audience of a Hannah Montana movie might be a bit young, just like the target audience for an R-rated Wolverine movie being unlikely to see a Hannah Montana movie.

Of course thats a generalisation, not to say that there are people who will want to see both. But overall I'd say the films won't have a massive effect on each other.

R-rating? I don't think so... where did you hear this?

That said, Benioff did say he wants to “rough” Wolverine/Jackman up a bit, giving him an opportunity to show sides the first two movies didn’t afford the character aside from the Mansion invasion scene in X2. Promising his story will be a “bit darker and a bit more brutal”, Benioff says he’s writing an ‘R’ script and that Marvel Studios and director will have to decide where to go from there.

Theres no confirmation that the finished product will be r-rated, but thats what the script is.

This sucks. This was like when 'Happy Feet' went up against 'Casino Royale'. Any movie, no matter how kick ass it is, or what demographic it's catering to, cannot compete with a kid based movie. Especially one as big and Hanna Montana. She'll crush Wolverine.

Die Hard 4 wasn't R-rated. Don't worry.

Although odds are Hannah will seriously harm Wolvie. And I'll be laughing.

And keep in mind, I like comic Wolvie. And Hugh. But I hate Fox more. Oh well.

If you dont remember, the lizzie McGuire movie came out the same day as X2, and Lizzie got pwnt, so who knows.

I'm just hoping Wolverine get #1 at the box office. We can't underestimate the kid films. Hannah Montanna is bigger than Lizzie McGuire, and this time Wolverine doesn't have his fellow X-Men to help him out. While I'm sure the film will make great money, it's too early to say that Wolverine can make the same numbers as the X-Men team films, imo.

Question 1: Will Hannah beat Wolverine in box office?
Answer: Yes, because the kids out number the others.

Question 2: Will Hannah effect Wolverine's audience?
Answer: NO, because they have COMPLETELY different audiences.

At least you can stop worrying about Hannah Montana in the UK.

Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour opened in the UK last weekend, and took $486,814 across 65 theatres.

X-Men: The Last Stand on its opening weekend took $13,181,822 across 446 theatres.

^Everyone knows the only box office that matters is here in the U.S. Come on, get with it. :o

HM faded out in the US following that big opening weekend. The only reason it had that big opening weekend here was because Disney had originally announced it as a one-week engagment, and all the parents who couldn't get the concert tickets rushed out for tickets that weekend. Once they extended it, no one cared.

Disney has balls, man!

check this out. Its from ComingSoon.net:

"It looks like X-Men Origins: Wolverine will have new competition on May 1, 2009, as Disney will release The Hannah Montana Movie on that date."

wow.

cool...i will watch both :p

Is there any self respecting heterosexual male out there that would WILLINGLY go see a Hannah Montana movie?

If anything, we're gonna MAYBE lose out some of the younger female population that producers would hope they could bring in with Reynolds and Kitsch.

As I said before, Ms Montana is an American 'phenomenon.' I work in the media and had never heard of her before she was mentioned on here. I then saw her on American Idol and can't say it blew me away - just a precocious teen singer, that's all. I'm not seeing 'worldwide mega-goddess'.

American stuff can succeed over here, for sure; much more than British stuff succeeds in the USA anyway. But she just hasn't had the exposure and probably doesn't really deserve it. The days when teenage girls went to the cinema in droves probably ended with Grease, which my sister saw about 15 times.

^British stuff appeals to us, you just have to change everything about it into Americanized versions. :o

Until a few days ago I seriously had never heard of her. And I don't get what's so special about her. So she's a cute, teenage, singer. So.... big deal? =/

eh, by this time next year she will be just another trend brought to you by disney.

Kids love her. I could easily say that an actor or singer you like is overrated but it won't change the fact that they're popular. Just like I don't see the big deal about Shrek but when Shrek 4 comes out there's nothing I can do.

Elaborate please.

Wolverine has a chance of beating Hannah if Miley Cyrus does something extremely bad that keeps parents from taking their kids to see her movie.
