Harrison Ford is Thunderbolt Ross

Its part of their big franchises if we tally the box office run of the IJ films from Paramount Pictures.šŸ¤

Hmm I don't see Indiana Jones on this list...

I do see Avatar and Pirates of the Caribbean though...but hey, if Ford's doing CGI characters now maybe he can go for a blue one next time.

What are we trying to say now? That the Indiana Jones saga wasn't incredibly successful?

That list shows other studios though. Also there can't be just 20 successful franchises. If the previous Indiana Jones movies weren't successful as a whole, Disney wouldn't have moved forward with a 5th film with the same lead actor. The 4th Indy film was successful when it came out in 2008. The people in charge just didn't fast track a 5th film. If Disney had Indy in 2008, there would have been Indy 5 much sooner, and probably an Indy 6 as well.

But you said "Disney's 3 big live action movie franchises". That makes it sound like you meant that the MCU, Star Wars, and Indiana Jones are the top three live action Disney franchises.

Maybe what you actually meant was "three of Disney's big live action movie franchises".

I literally meant 3 big live action movie franchises, in which Harrison Ford is included. I didn't label Marvel/Star Wars/Indiana Jones as the big three of Disney. Surely Pixar and their animation studio are much more lucrative than Indiana Jones. I didn't even think about their other live action movie franchises like Avatar/Pirates when I typed that post, last year.

Okay so what you meant was "three of Disney's big live action movie franchises". Glad to clear that up.

I didn't say its Disney's THE big 3. Its 3 big ips but I didn't say its Disney's biggest 3. Indiana Jones might not have the same success in Disney compare to the Paramount days, but the previous films are owned by Disney now. So the legacy of Indy is with Disney right now.

For the big 3 live action franchises of Disney, I might consider Pirates of the Caribbean as the third one?
I already explained this last year.

Yeah I see that now. I only saw Lily Adler's post quoting you before.

(But just so you know, "Disney's THE big 3" is not a phrase anyone would actually ever say. The phrase "Disney's big 3" means [or at least strongly implies] that you mean the top three.)

I know the answer is most likely "someone irrelevant", but I find it interesting we never see who his VP, now new president, is. I don't expect someone relevant, but there's the blank space.

What happened to the last president outlawing all aliens?

Or Skrulled. :o

Since the news montage at the beginning was clearly added during reshoots to add exposition for confused audiences, they should have included reference to Secret Invasion and Ritson losing the election.

The newscaster even let us know that Betty was Bruceā€™s ex-girlfriend; they could probably have given us an update on election night about the last president.

Or something about the GRC royally screwing up relocation efforts after the Blip in FATWS.

Or a heads up that Bucky is now in Congressā€”assuming he won that night too? Unless I heard his line wrong later in the film, and heā€™s only running for Congress? But thatā€™s be little early since midterms wouldnā€™t be happening for another 1.5 years; remember the movie takes place 5 months after election night.

I liked Ford's Ross but the character seemed too pleasant/nice to be in line with the version we've had to date.

Yeah the previous Ross we saw in the previous movies was a bit stoic and nonchalant. This version of Ross seems softer in comparison.

I thought he did a good job. It was a very comfortable role for him, but he handled it well.

so, was the "*" in the Thunderbolts* title.... an even the "we can't call ourselves that" line the newest trailer (which ironically played before the movie, for me) a hint/spoiler to Ross's faith in the movie

not that the marketing for the movie itself was exactly trying to hide it , with Red Hulk front and center
(but, we didn't necessarily know end result/or if he would've been redeemed/ or died)

or is the "Thunderbolt" name unrelated???

I think we have to
watch the movie in May for the answer*

I could see the Thunderbolts* representing the roster that Ross originally picked for his New Avengers. Then Isaiah tried to kill him, so he shelved the project. Maybe Val gets her hands on that list and decides to use them for her own purposes.

Its just weird though for a Marvel team in the MCU, to be named after Thunderbolt* Ross. Maybe if he was a huge dominating figure in several movies, okay. But aside from this new movie, he was only prominent in The Incredible Hulk.

FWIW, the name is a coincidence in the comics.
there was a team of that name in comics that was unrelated, yes...

but, this was a team that we saw members being recruited under the impression that it was for a governmental sanctioned team (not the team of villains recruited by a villain to do villainous things)

they (or the ones we saw being recruited) at least thought that they would be working directly for the President (Ross was probably already running for President at the time or planning too)...at least til the President was turned in to a monster, again hence the " * "
so, the Thunderbolts probably a working title while the program was going to be under his control

Val most likely goes rogue in keeping the team going, anyway

all theoretically speaking, of course

Sure, but the Thunderbolts* line up is not even faithful to the comics. They could have chosen another name, yet they went with Thunderbolts*.

Also, Brave New World just came out and Thunderbolts happened to be the next movie after it. Its understandable to link the two movies, just for the name "Thunderbolt".
