Has Mel Gibson been forgiven yet?

The reason I ask this question is because I miss him being in movies, he is an amazing actor. But has Mel been forgiven by enough to people to be a box office draw, or would any movie he stars in be boycotted?

Look, I'm not Catholic or Jewish, or anything else. I'm agnostic, so to be honest I laughed at the whole drunk Mel incident because I think it's assinine and laughable to fight about religion, and that goes for anyone. But it doesn't offend me. And I want Mel back in some movies.

Edge of Darkness comes out next year. Just check IMDB.com to see what future acting projects he has coming out. It isn't hard.

I doubt he's exactly garnered a **** list or anything. I suspect he'll still be a draw.

I think people really stopped caring a few months after it happened. I don't know about "forgiving" him, but I don't think anyone honestly gives a rat's ass about it, and hasn't for some time.

And yeah, I'm really looking forward to Edge of Darkness. It looks pretty good, especially with Ray Winstone in the cast. "You know how you have those people trying to connect A to B? I'm usually the guy who keeps you from connecting the A to B."

i don't think people really care or they chose to ignore it. Think of it of being taboo.

I'm one of those people who separate the artist from the art, for the most part, so yeah, I'm looking forward to his next movie.

I grew up watching movies with Gibson and I also think he's a damn good or at least competant director. I'm glad this has passed over for the most part. I think the only times you will hear any references to the whole drunk incident is on shows like The Soup and Chelsea Lately where they constantly bring up old **** just to keep making fun of someone, basically beating a dead horse.

Eh, I never really believed Mel actually needed anyone's forgiveness, because I figured it wouldn't be long before some other big name did something stupid.

I don't find what Mel did offensive, now unless he says something about Hispanics then that's another story.

It shouldn't matter that you're agnostic. Mel's slurs weren't religion-related, they were race related. He blamed the jews for all the wars in the world. Not jewism the religion but jews in general. So F*** Mel and his holocaust denying father!

:hehe:

JUDAISM, and "Jewish" is a religious label, not an actual race. Most Jews are caucasian, though members of other races are able to practice Judaism.

Oh, my mistake, I was typing fast. I knew it didn't sound right. Should have googled the word to get it right.

Never heard that before. When was that info released...if it's even true at all.

Around the time of the Mel's incindent. And when you blame all the jews in the world, that's racism. If you replace black people with jews, Mel would have propably said that all n****** are to blame. Or so I see it.

He does have a point, the numbers might be off, since history distorts facts quite often.

Okay... so his father isn't denyign the holocaust, just disagrees with the official numbers. Fine. Allthough when did the number of jews killed dropped from 6 to 4 million? I haven't read or heard this anywhere. And does it matter? Mel's view's were still alarming.

The numbers vary from time to time - no one will ever really now for sure. Heck, back in '98, the estimate was 2.8 million.

As for his "views" (I'm assuming you meant his drunken comments); speaking from experience, it is quite easy to say ANYTHING regardless of its validity when you're that hammered. Now, if there are moments throughout his life where he's trashed talked Jews sober, I'd be more inclined to agree. However, he has spent much of his adult life reaffirming a lack of anti-semitism (solely because people misprint his father's opinions and therefore assume). Heck, he had Jewish backers for Passion of the Christ. While I will not sit here and say it was okay for Mel to ramble on like a drunken idiot (because what he did say WAS messed up), I will however give him the benefit of the doubt; when you get so drunk, you become an ass and will easily say whatever comes to your head to get a reaction.

I disagree with that. I think that when drunk, it's easier to say what you think rather then say something you don't really mean. But that is where our experienceses vary then.

I would not disagree with that. But there in lies the problem; inebriation can quite easily cause either scenario; depending on the person, the situation, and the severity of drunkenness.

The fact remains that what he said and did was wrong, but who are we to know his true thoughts, much less damn someone, despite all the crap millions of people say and do while drunk. Its very easy for people to see one mistake in a persons life as a true definition of their character, regardless of what they've done leading up to said mistake. Yeah, its the curse of being famous - people expect you to be perfect. But as for me, Lord knows I'd be a hypocrite for damning him. But in either case, as I said before, I try to seperate the artist from the art. For instance, I don't like Tom Cruise and think he's a twisted nut job, but I don't have a problem popping in a movie of his if its good.

Yeah, maybe you're right. I just felt that the original poster was wrong when he said it was religion related slur. That wouldn't bothered me either. The racial slurs just piss me off. But whatever.

I hear ya. But when it comes to Jews, there is no such thing as a jewish race. Its a religion with a strong cultural distinction, sure, but not a genetic one, as you would say "asian" is a race.

but discrimination is discrimination, no matter how you slice it.

He won't earn my respect until he does 1 of 2 things...

- Do a Mad Max "dark Knight Returns" style flick where Max is an even bigger badass than he was in his youth.

- Do a Braveheart sequel about Robert the Bruce.

I doubt either will happen.
