I've read the first 3 issues of this comic and I really like it. Character was created by Todd McFarlane and Robert Kirkman. Here is the wiki page for an overview:

If you pick up an issue(s), share your thoughts with the Hype.

Looks like Anti-Venom. Reads like Spawn (hell, the undead, afterlife).

There are definite parallels between Kurt Kilgore and Al Simmons.

I'll get my hands on it this week, looks interesting

Many of the mainstream comics have been boring me in recent years. I was looking for something different and edgy. So far, this has been good.

I like to refer to it as a well made hollywood movie. very entertaining and thrilling at times, with a good enough story to keep you interested throughout. yet pretty intelligent and deep at parts, but selfaware enough to not piss-off the general mainstream audience by making them feel stupid about it.

in other words: it's comicbook fast food at it's finest. not my kind of diet, but for what it is, I really like it.

Holy s***!!!!!! I created a character just like this guy!!

First, some back story. A little over ten years ago, I was trying to break into the comics industry. I had teamed up with an artist who lived near me, Buz Hasson. I had created a large number of characters and was going to do the writing, Buz would draw them. Everything kind of just fell apart, and we never went anywhere. Well, I didn't, but he did.

Anyway, one of the characters I came up with was a guy called Dead Soul. He was a normal guy who's brother, a homicide detective, was murdered on the job. A year or so after his death, while visiting the grave, the one brother was confronted with his brother's ghost. The dead brother then possesses the living one, turning him into the nearly indestructible, Dead Soul.

Weird coincidence.

I've found the book enjoyable so far. The way the character is drawn and some of his special abilities reminds me of a cross between Spawn and Spiderman. I guess that is to be expected seeing as how McFarlane is drawing him.

So he's the friendly Neighborhood Sperma-man? :p

Some Haunt fans refer to him as SpiderSpawn. He really does look like a cross between them.

I really like the love/hate relationship between Daniel and Kurt. It gives the book a very interesting dynamic.

Have you read issue 4 yet? My copy hasn't arrived so I'm curious to hear thoughts about it.

I did read issue 4 and I would say it confirms my earlier thought that Haunt is a cross between Spawn and Spiderman. The fact that
when he uses his powers it weakens him just like Spawn makes me feel that way even more.
With that being said, I'm still enjoying the book and plan on sticking with it for awhile. Plus the fact that its a $2.99 book is a bonus. I'm tired of being asked to pay $3.99 for a comic book. I'm trying to weed out as many of the four dollar books as I can because I think thats to much to pay for a comic.

There isn't any doubt that the Spider-Spawn nickname is a good one. His look and powers certainly have echoes of Spawn and the symbiote. That being said, the Kilgore brothers situation has me locked in for awhile too. This is the first comic in years that I've bought on a month-by-month basis. I've been more into TPBs since I hit 30.

I can understand your frustration with comic prices. I'm old enough to remember buying comics with a 75 cent cover price. Watching cover prices quadruple in my lifetime has been very disheartening.

Sadly, this is compounded for me because there is only one true comic store in my area and it's hours are very limited. I end up getting my comics from Ebay, which requires extra money and time in transit. It drives me nuts.

Question for you, Jeb: have you gotten any of the variant covers? I've picked up some of the 1:4 and 1:10s but I'm wary of the 1:100s and #ed editions until I see if the series has staying power.

I'm picking up the tpb in March. Most reviewers have savaged this book but just as many if not more people on various boards seem to be loving it. I'm an old school Spawn fan so this seems right up my alley.

I haven't purchased any of the variant covers as of yet. I have been tempted though.Like you I can also remember the days of comics that were 75 cents or sometimes even less. I'm in my late 30's and have collected comics on and off since I was a kid. I feel blessed that I'm in a situation where I can afford to collect these days, but four dollars for a comic book that takes me ten minutes to read seems a little steep. The other problem I'm facing these days is where to store all my comics. Those long and short boxes take up a lot of space.

I think I'm going to at least buy the first trade volume. So far the comic is okay. Not great, but still enjoyable. If anything, I'll just have the 1 trade and move on from there. With Ottley leaving after issue 5, the artwork might not be something I'm willing to pay for afterwards.

I'll pick the TPB too. I've collected a few variant covers so I'll probably sell a Haunt lot on Ebay in a couple of years.

It sounds like we are in similar situations. There was a time when I collected sports cards, expensive comics, and various action figures. Then I got married and became a dad. I lacked the space and energy to keep collecting at that point. I sold most of my comics & cards. These days, I'm strictly a reader. Once I get a large number of comics/TPBs of the same series/character, I put them on Ebay.

BTW, I finally got issue #4. I'm liking the main character's development with each issue but I hope the villians pick up some steam soon. I was just getting to like Cobra but Haunt may have put him on the shelf for awhile.

I'm a little concerned about that too. I really wish Toddy Mac was more involved with the penciling but I like Capullo so all may be well.

I'm not a big fan of Capullo or McFarlane anymore. So the story is going to have to be really good for me to stick around for subsequent trades.

I wish I could be more like you Venom and force myself to give up some of my collection, but every time I try I talk myself out of it. I do occasionally go back and reread some of my older issues so maybe I'm not completely obsessive in keeping them around.

Seems like Mcfarlane is trying to mash up his work with Spawn and Venom into one super entity. No that Im opposed to that kind of mixture. I might pick this up though

I have the same issues. I stopped buying issues (outside of Ghost Rider and related characters) for the most part, and 90% of my comics are all pre-2000. I don't even read most of them, but I just can't see getting rid of them (doesn't help I had bad taste in comics and they're mostly worthless).

I would say the majority of my comics aren't worth anything either NDX. I have some good runs of Spiderman, Batman and Superman, the entire Marvel run of G.I. Joe, a complete run of Zenescope's Grimm Fairy Tales with most of the limited editions, complete Walking Dead series, and a few decent issues here and there, but the majority of my comics I probably couldn't give away. I own way to many of the Image and Valiant books that bogged down the industry in the 90's.
