I missed out on a recent opportunity to meet Stan Lee for a second time. He was recently (January) at Frank and Son Collectible Show in City of Industry California. By the time I found out, it was already a month after the fact. I had hoped to meet Mr. Lee once more, so that I can get a picture with him. Last time I saw him was in 2004 at E3. He was at the Activision booth promoting the Spider-Man 2 video game. I managed to get him to sign my copy of Amazing Spider-Man #329. I now have it hanging from my wall in a picture frame.

So who else has had the opportunity of meeting Stan "The Man" Lee? With his advanced age, I feel like the chance to meet him again is dwindling rapidly. The man is a living legend and very polite. Also, he is really freaking tall. You wouldn't know it form the movies but he is a little over six feet tall. It took me by surprise.

Stan Lee will live to be over 100 yrs old. When he's gone, there's going to be a massive void for the face of the industry that will never be filled again. That's why I'm glad he gets the endless stream of cameos in the Marvel films.

If he ever comes to a con in Austria I'll be there (as usual promoting my own comic book like hell), but I guess the chances arn't very high.

Indeed. It will be a sad day when Stan Lee passes away. I will feel like I lost an old relative. Not that he likely feels like his fans are his "family," but between his kindness and creative imagination, he just feels like that old uncle or grandparent who always shares an amazing story with you.

He is also a very forward thinking individual. From the obvious social criticisms that are hidden away in the X-Men (a commentary on the civil rights movement, if ever one were so well masked) to the fact that he wasn't afraid to create non-stereotypical minority characters. Heck, Black Panther beat all of the note worthy black characters to the punch (e.g. Storm, Vixen, Blade, Black Lightning, Luke Cage, The Falcon).

Also, he understood the importance of a kid being able to see themselves in a character. That is why he said that Spider-Man needed a mask. Anyone, regardless of age or race, can be Spider-Man, without someone saying, "but hey, you aren't <young/white> enough."

This is why I want to meet him again. To just...thank him for being who he is. He may not have cured cancer, brought us to the moon or solved world hunger, but for the brief time he has been on this mortal coil, he has brightened our rather dark world and made us believe that we can and should overcome struggle, we are together in the good fight and that friendship can carry us a world away.

Man...now I feel like I am giving the man's eulogy. May he live a deservedly long life.

Meet him several times at conventions, really nice guy in person.

Does he ever remember your face? And yes, he is kind.

When I first met him, I kind of mumbled...stammered for a bit, and fumbled my way through telling him how honored I was to be able to meet him. He gave a smile and saw the comic in my hand and simply said, "I suppose you would like me to sign that for you." To which I dorkishly returned, "yes, please sir, if you do not mind." I don't know why I was so nervous. I mean, I'd rather be nervous than one of those, "OMG URS TEH BESTEST EVR" otaku types, but for all of the rhetorical powers at my disposal, words truly failed me. Thankfully, he was nice about it and signed away. He even avoided signing over the middle of the cover, so as to avoid ruining/blocking the "beautiful artwork" as he put it.

I'm actually getting the chance to meet him in less than two weeks.I'm very excited.

I am guessing that you are going to Megacon in Florida? I would totally fly out there just for the photo op. Unfortunately, a lack of funds pretty much cripples any such hope. I don't know where else or when else he will be appearing this year. Hopefully, some place back here in the golden state.

@Morg

Was it "Who Wants to be a Superhero" or one of POW Entertainment's original animations (Mosaic, The Condor)?

was some sort of punked show I recall, aired only a couple episodes and then got yanked. I made a thread about it and see if I can find it

I'd love to see the show, if clips are available.

When he came to NYCC a few years back they were charging like $500+ dollars to hang out with him. **** that.

Yea I'm going to Megacon. It'll be my fourth con and my biggest one to date.I already paid in advance which guarantees my autograph.

Dallas comic con. Haven't been to one in years, but that day I'm gonna be camped out (or just get there reaaaaaally early).

Well, that is good to know. Thank you for the heads up.
