Hawaii Five-O - Part 2

Well it is not as bad as Miami Vice where nobody lived to see their day in court but after Wo Fat was expended in the 100th episode once a big bad served their purpose there really is no need to keep him around as some kind of mastermind that would just be replaying Wo Fat's story

Didn't Adam basically kill the female Wo Fat offscreen?

You mean Michelle Shioma? She was killed in prison, IIRC by the group that Adam ended up investigating and bringing down last season. If you mean his sister, it's still TBD if Adam was involved in her death.

Adam I recall had two sisters. One was evil, and I think they're both dead. So it seems like all the main villains are dead now.

They killed off Joe White tonight. Was really hoping they wouldn't have another long-time recurring character killed off. They did have Rochelle Aytes' Agent Greer escape from federal custody with the help of a crooked prison guard. With her loose and being the one who leaked the info about Steve's SEAL team (who are all now dead besides him) to terrorists, she and the dead terrorist group leader's son (who hired hitmen to kill the SEALs as revenge) are going to be the big bads for the rest of the season.

Something that I'm sure will split the fanbase, Michelle Borth will be appearing in the first January episode as she helps Steve and his team track down those who killed his team:

Funny thing, I had just been in discussion of Jason Statham's Killer Elite. Trade in the veteran SAS for McGarrett's SEAL Team with Joe White as the featherman/Clive Owen and you have the basic story. Only without a focus on the mercenaries.

I have not seen a single episode of this season so far. I have them all waiting to be watched but I just don't have the interest in it compared to other shows. They keep bringing Catherine back but only for a handful of episodes.

I thought they had been announcing "This will be last season" for the last 4 seasons or so. We pretty much stopped watching it after Grace Park and Daniel Dae Kim left.

Sometimes it's better just to end a show rather than to just keep it going for whatever.

IMHO, Hawaii 5-0 in its first two seasons or so felt like great action-packed TV. It felt like a getting a cool action movie every week.

I kind of feel like the writing checked out quite a while ago. The show has been on so long they've pretty much cycled through all the characters we liked and watched the show for. Once Kono and Chin were gone, it was hard for me to continue caring.

They keep Ian Anthony Dale around when he should have left when Grace Park and Daniel Dae Kim did. Adam is married to Kono, but is still in Hawaii. Why is he not with Kono?

Well, is it even logical that Adam was able to become an officer after basically being a mobster and Yakuza? Not to mention all the criminal activity he was involved in?

No, and if he wasn't going to be on the mainland with Kono, he should have been in jail.

And is there some sort of quota where the team only has one female at a time?

It definitely feels that way. I gave up and quit midway through season 9. I realized I had not been enjoying the show since even really before Park and Kim left but kept watching out of habit.

I remember at some point in season 9 they finally divorced because his being on the island while she was very focused on human trafficking meant they could never be together. They tried to play it off differently but it came down to Kono was too obsessed with stopping human trafficking to commit to a relationship.

That they do. Too much estrogen will weaken the testosterone.

I stopped watching during Season 9 (or is it Season 8?) - whichever one was the last season. Well, it's more that I never managed to pick it up again before it broke for Christmas, and then too much time had passed and I don't feel like watching a Christmas episode in summer.

I agree it went downhill after Kono and Chin Ho left. I also preferred when they had Michelle Borth.

They shouldn't have killed off Wo Fat so early or captured him in such an undignified way.

And the second season had Lori Weston from Homeland Security who the second governor forced on the task force to keep an eye on McGarrett but then she fell in lust for him.

My wife and I were massive H5-0 fans from day one, but she lost a lot of interest with the departure of Chin and Kono. TBH, I too think the writing has dropped off a lot in season 8 (which we're only just getting now down here in NZ).

In some ways s7 could have been a series finale, I like Meaghan Rath, but she ain't no Grace Park.

I have to stick up for kiwi Beulah Koale, but Chin and Kono made the show something special.

Danny and Steve and their de facto marriage still keeps the show going but otherwise, it aint the same.

On the other hand, I would watch almost anything which has Katrina Law and action in it - a winning combination in my book.

As the more recent seasons become available I'll still watch them though - although it does feel like the magic of the early seasons has passed.

I loved Katrina Law on Spartacus. I always thought she was underrated.

I always thought Chin was a great character and Daniel Dae Kim is a great actor. It was great to see him as part of a main cast for a series after doing guest spots and bit parts in movies and shows for years.

But yeah the show is not the same without Chin and Kono IMO.

Granted shows like this that are on for a long time, the main people tend to leave or move on at points. It's not unusual.

The other issue for me is that later seasons just seemed to start rehashing old TV plots.

You mean Daniel Dae Kim.

The original series ran for 12 seasons. By about season 8 or 9, most of the original cast had left. Kono just disappeared and Chin Ho was killed off. Duke joined the team (he wasn't just head of HPD). By the really late seasons Danno had left too and McGarrett was the only original character around. But they did bring in Lori, who was Lori Wilson rather than Lori Weston.

Wo-Fat was finally captured in the very last episode, which is what they should've done here instead of killing him off so early in Season 5.

Well they already caught him but he escaped supermax. As it was in those first 100 episodes the nuHawaii 5-0 had more Wo Fat appearances than Jack Lord's entire 12 year run did.
