Comedy HBO's The Righteous Gemstones

Was about to fall to pieces, but then I remembered that McBride designed Vice Principals to go only two seasons so I guess this was a gift.

I'll certainly miss it but 4 seasons seems to be a sweet spot for HBO shows. Succession and Barry come to mind, also McBride's own Eastbound & Down. I also wouldn't be surprised if The White Lotus ends after season 4 because I'm not sure how much juice you can squeeze out of a "destination resort where someone dies" concept for an extended amount of time.

Well, the show hasn't had a bad episode or season, so at least we know this ahead of time and the show no doubt gets to end on its own terms.

But man, really seems like a lot of great shows are or will be ending. Succession and Barry bowed out in May 2023, Curb Your Enthusiasm ended last April. HBO cancelled The Franchise (which I did like, even though not a lot of people knew about it). I know the network has House of the Dragon, Dune Prophecy, and The Penguin, so they're fine on the drama front, but it feels like they're running out of comedies.

It does seem like they’re working to replenish their comedy slate, though. New shows from Rachel Sennott, Tim Robinson, Steve Carrell/Bill Lawrence, with Bill Hader and Molly Shannon having things in development too. McBride and Edi Patterson are working on adapting a Grady Hendrix book too and I assume that’s meant to be a comedy.

Oh god, the costuming in the teaser is....amazing. Florida man Eli. Whatever flight attendent get up the kids have.

BJ doing pole dancing is going to be great.

Teenjus, good lord.

A reminder that I need to see Cast Away. And Philadelphia. At some point.

“Watching you work that pole’s got me slick.”

Dear God, Judy…
