Hell Freezes Over: Japanese People Prefer Xbox360 to PS3 after TGS?

Anyways, not the most scientific of polls, I know, but still very interesting. According to this, 61% "will buy 360 instead of Wii/PS3", with only 14% saying they will buy either a Wii or PS3, and 11% being undecided. Normally internet polls wouldn't seem reliable, but combined with Sony's E3 '06-esque embarassing TGS showing and the 90 minute+ lines to play/see Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey, games like Infinite Undiscovery, Lost Planet, and Trusty Bell, an exclusive Square-Enix game (project syphilis or something), it seems likely that this at least partially represents opinions in Japan.

Hopefully with games like Lost Odyessey, Blue Dragon, Lost Planet, trusty bell and the square enix game LOTS of Japanese people will buy an xbox 360 this winter season.
I just want xbox 360 to do fine in that market if not big.

Blue Dragon has been in the top 10 most wanted of Famitsu since it's announcement, and judging by the lines (which were last reported to not be 90 minutes - but two hours), the press coverage, the games that MS showed compared to Sony, etc, it doesn't seem likely that Xbox360 will be a failure in Japan for much longer. Mass market will take the plunge.

Actually, I believe that poll is a Famitsu sponsored poll so it has more credibility than if it wasn't. Anyway, I also believe that the actual question is "which console will you end up buying this year. Now, I could be wrong (only one person said something about that translation and even if it was correct, this is still a massive jump with the 360 (look at the numbers and if every person keeps to their word about buying the 360 then yea, a giant step).

Get our hopes up for what? Of course we're not going to get our hopes up that Microsoft will get marketshare reflective of the poll numbers or is even going to win Japan, but we ARE going to get our hopes up that the 360 will be more popular in Japan than the Xbox thanks to this reaction.

It would be stupid to think the 360 would outsell the PS3 in Japan, but with these poll results, it's possible the 360 will be better off in Japan than the Xbox.

No one seriously believes that 360 will beat the PS3 in Japanese sales, regardless of how much it deserves to. What I think this does mean though, is that unlike the xbox, the 360 isn't going to struggle to sell 200,000 units in it's entire lifespan. I would expect, at the very least, a 5-10 million installed base in Japan by the end of the 360's lifespan, which while still very small, is a huge improvement over the Xbox. It's good news regardless.

I think 5 million is too large for the Xbox in Japan. I'd give it a generous 2 million. It's sad, but I don't have faith in Japan.

The 360 had more noteworthy Japanese games at TGS than Sony, and every contender for "game of show" is on their system, that has to count for something. It's not going to be a smashing success, but I think it's definitly going to get turned around. 3, maybe more, Mistwalker games, 5 or more exclusive Team Ninja games, an exclusive Square-Enix game, several exclusives from other companies, etc. All those games have to count for something.

Comparing the majority of Sony Launch Games & 360 as of now the 360 has all of the more interesting RPG Games (which the Japanese love) Sony pretty much just has FPS & Sports at the moment

True, it's logical to think that they'll all help the 360, sure, but you know as well as I that logic doesn't apply to Japan. As soon as the PS3 releases, those dopes will eat it up like dogs eating chocolate.

The 360 will be the better system for a while there, but they're too blind.

With only 100,000 units for Japan this year, and God only knows how much surplus 360's laying around, and Blue Dragon being released on one platform while the other gets..........um...........yeah, anyways, I think the 360 is going to surprise people this Christmas. Logic applies to Japan, Microsoft just hasn't made a console worth buying over there until now. You can't release a console with a small library (I think only like 70 xbox games made it over there) of games that don't appeal to the market and expect it to sell.
