Hey all

What made X3 great? The action scenes? Did you view it as the end of a trilogy and a popcorn flick?

Here's a summary of the "hater's" point of view:
-weak plot, seemed to only serve as a connector between action scenes
-weak characterization, what did we learn about any of the characters?
-disrespect for characters: cyclops, rogue, colossus, psylocke, phoenix etc.
-too short: it was made to be a faced paced action film, not really an emotional story
-dialogue: riddled with one-liners, lost the darker tone of the previous movies
-Phoenix side-plot: she was just a side-plot in the movie, mostly stood around
-Larger roles...for the sake of having larger roles: Wolverine and Storm were the centre of the film...because the actors were the headliners.

What made the film great? The fact that there was more action then X1 and X2? The teamwork? Help the haters understand.

The excellent effects and action the way they did phoenix was much better than bringing in the phoenix force and aliens and such and just making her vborn as the most powerful mutant of all i like the movie way better actually famke's phenomenal performance kitty beast and calisto were awesome new characters juggernaut for comic relief and the awesome plots of the film

I don't think anyone is saying The Last Stand had a weak plot. It actually has the strongest plot. But, the execute of said plot is in question. It's not handled very well, crappy.

As far as characterization goes, they dropped the ball in not really trying to understand the ethical and individual issues when it comes to this cure. By not exploring more what the cure meant to Rogue and Beast, the ones who would have the most to gain by taking the cure, they missed an opportunity for great character work, drama, and explore the theme of this cure.

The length issue speaks for itself. With these two good storylines running side by side, this film needed to be longer in order to achieve that epic status the films wants to be and that the film should be as a result of what transpired in X2.

why dont you just hate it.... it would save us x-fans time

haha I did hate it...I just want to understand if I'm viewing it with bias though haha. But it seems like that a lot of people who loved it loved it because of the actions and SFX. Which makes more sense, thanks.

Just don't watch it as a fanboy. Watch it knowing it isn't the comics. That's what I did. And I enjoyed the movie immenseley.

Right and that summary is all very important to making a movie work, especially the dialogue, length, transition, characterization, logic and plot. If you want to see something explode watch a fireworks display. If you want to see teamwork watch a sporting event. I do like both those things, however those things you listed are what sets a movie apart from sports, fireworks and commercials. Movies have to have plots, characterization, logic, flow and treat their cast and characters with respect or else you have nothing.

Not only have you to pretend the comics didn't exist, you also have to pretend that the previous 2 Movies never existed. Then one could've enjoyed the Movie.

That's the problem I think. The expectations.

I, along with the people I saw the movie with, mostly know the team through the cartoon. I think a huge part of the disappointment was from how characters had seemed to change from the last film, and less from their cartoon personas. Wolverine was basically Scott with claws, Storm nagged people instead of being the wise motherly figure, and Phoenix wasn't the all powerful being for example. For the plot, we expected an epic film with an all out war against Phoenix in the end. What we got was a movie that felt like it ended when Magneto got the cure...because Phoenix was just a spectator throughout the movie. She was killed off in a few minutes, and that was it. No epic, just a few mutant battles and it was all over.

I went in knowing it wasn't going to be as great as X2 and that it wasn't going to be EVERYTHING that I hoped for.

I liked it because of the blend of suspense, drama, action, storyline, and even a bit of comedy. It leaves you guessing.. I enjoy movies like that.

Bingo, crappy. It doesn't have the epic feel it strives for. It has the right ideas for it but the wrong execution.

I felt more of an x-men vibe as well. I liked it, but I feel if it truly is the last one then my opinion may changed.. I simply viewed it as 1 movie so as that I Felt it was great, but as an ending? its not a good ending at all! thank god theres a lot of talk of there being a 4th one.

x3 = story

wow. the story is one thing that I can't agree with. It was so simple and obvious, it could be expressed as "Cure bad, destroy cure." Even X2's plot could be....a little more complex. X1 would be "Machine make humans mutants." But X2 had a complex plot...which wasn't obvious from the start. That's what I appreciated about it, you weren't sure what was going to happen right from the beginning of the movie. There was subtlety.

That's more like it.

All them hater's point of have some merit in one form or another, but it's depending on the person and what they thought and felt the movie should have been about. I have my gripes but the movie was good to me. i think that if FOX hadn't rushed the production we'd got a better movie.

My problem with the larger roles were that they really wasn't and is being made more out of nothing. Yeah Wolvie had a big role like he did in the past two films and I hate that he took Scott's role, but hey what can you do. As for Berry and Storm, her role was not this huge role that some are making it out to be. Storm got some more action and more lines, but she wasn't the focus of the movie by a long shot. Beast was seen just as much as her and it was magneto and wolverine that had the largest roles.
