Henry Cavill IS Clark Kent/Superman - - Part 11

Oh yeah, I know. They embraced the idea of a muddled continuation. Hence why a lot of it didn't work.

Never mind the myriad of other inconsistencies.

Acknowledges events of Superman 1 & 2, but ignore Superman 3 & 4.
Lois has a child and suspects Superman is the Dad, which ignores the amnesia kiss
Characters are meant to be the same as Superman 1&2, but their characteristics are notably different
Superman in Superman 1 can barely stand with a small Kryptonite chain round his neck, this one can lift a piece of land covered in the stuff (and yes, I know he recharged in the sun first)
etc

Yeah, it was really dumb. Especially the most glaring one.

"Hey, president! Sorry I went away and let three Kryptonians show up and usurp the world. I won't let anything like that happen again!"

(15 minutes later, boards a ship to Krypton and disappears for five years)

And fine, yeah it's a "vague sequel" or whatever. Singer couldn't even be consistent with the character within his own movie.

"I'm always around, Lois. Except, ya know, when I take impromptu trips to other galaxies that last five years and don't even tell anyone I'm leaving. But I'm always around."

What really hurts Superman Returns is that it was heavily edited and takes away a lot of the story explaining things that people may have a problem with. Personally I liked the movie and was interested to see where they could take him from there.

If they go with the Kryptonian nano suit thing, I'd more than welcome with open arms the shirt rip;

A good shirt rip should be a staple of Superman films. They are dearly missed and I too would approve of a nano suit to welcome them back!!!

Unless his casting is announced later, I think we may not get any superman cameo for Shazam's movie like some of us had hoped

Eh, it could happen. I mean, they haven't even cast Shazam yet or Billy Batson, so we're not likely to hear about any Superman cameos for a while.

They were pretty open about the whole "a bunch of the background is the same, some is different" thing the whole way through. Hence the term "vague sequel".

Unfortunately you needed a map of Sparksnotes to keep track of what was canon and what was a new interpretation.

Are you serious?

They've just announced the movie, well the Hollywood Reporter has and they haven't even cast anyone as far as we know.

Wouldn't it be a nice surprise too.

Stupid question, but how far into Suicide Squad did they announce that Batman would cameo?

If I recall, they didn't really announce that. Some fans snapped some photos of Ben Affleck showing up wherever they were filming (Toronto, I think?). And then a little while later pictures surfaced of his stunt double on top of the car in the Joker/Harley chase scene.

Yeah think it was just set pics that revealed that.

Tbh I don't think it's essential Superman appears but I love the stories where Billy Batson is a huge Superman fan first. I'd love to see it happen but if not Shazam is good enough on his own anyway.

I see 3 ways to do it:

- Billy is a Superman fan and we see Superman maybe on TV saving people and there's a scene where he and Shazam chat.
- They do it the way it was done in First Thunder or Superman/Shazam The Return of Black Adam where Clark/Superman is basically the co star in the movie.
- Superman has an Iron Man in Spider-Man Homecoming style role. Where he's in the film at certain points of the film, and guides Shazam but he's not involved in the climax of the film. He then returns at the end to give Shazam the old "you did a great job speech".

This should be the approach. I was critical of the IM heavy approach in the marketing, but his role in the movie was just right.

Yeah that's the one I lean towards aswell. He steps in a couple of times when Shazam is in over his head but by the end Shazam proves himself to be a worthy hero. That would also lead well into a sequel that Superman now trusts him to take care of his own City.

Oh yeah, I had forgotten about that. I'd figured that if they announced that Shazam was still on track for its initial release date that they'd just announce that Henry was going to appear like how they did with RDJ in Homecoming.

But that want prior to Tom Holland been cast as Spider-Man.

I would like Superman to have a small role or guest appearance in Shazam but not a full blown Superman/Shazam story.

I haven't seen Spider-Man: Homecoming so I can't use that as an example.

Iron Man in SM Hoemcoming has what I'd call a supportive role. He doesn't dominate the film but he appears sporadically throughout in small scenes.

Thanks for the info. I guess that could work if they decide to go that route. Of course, he may not appear at all. But it's harmless fun to speculate.

Yeah I think having him guide Shazm at times and giving him that you did well speech at the end could be really good. Also it wouldn't harm the property for them to advertise Superman as part of it. He then adds name recognition to it.

Tbh I'm 50-50 on whether I think it will happen or not. I can see why they would but also why they wouldn't.

If MOS 2 ends up getting pushed off then I can see him having a more significant role in another DC film such as Shazam. If they go forward with MOS 2 by 2020 or so then I would think the chances for a significant guest appearance might diminish. Not sure. I go back and forth on what their Superman plans are going forward depending on the day.

Same mate, I mean we'll always have Superman in film and TV. The characters too popular and too well know not to be. But in the immediate future I look at what films are scheduled and I don't see where it quite fits. But then an another kart of me remembers how many films are announced and that some will take a lot longer than others so that a Superman film can easily fit. Tbh if he's around in either way as a member of the JL, a supporting role to other heroes or a solo Superman sequel I'll be happy because he'll be around.

We can always get greedy and have him in Shazam plus MOS 2. All by 2020!

I'm pretty confident Supes will be in the Shazam solo as a mentor figure.

I'm kind of disappointed that we get a Shazam movie which is about a kid who gets to be Superman technically, yet no Superman sequel. Shazam isn't even a member of the Justice League. They could've just got The Flash movie to start in it's place. Shazam imo is kind of lame because he is pretty much Superman, unless if they change his abilities and appearance alot
