Tbh if he's around in either way as a member of the JL, a supporting role to other heroes or a solo Superman sequel I'll be happy because he'll be around.

Well, one reason I expect Superman to have a crucial role in JL is that it makes sense to try to revitalize interest in this incarnation of the character that way.

That's one benefit of the shared universe.

Doing MoS2 would be risky at this point on its own, but if Superman has a couple of big moments in JL, and that is well-received, then it could increase interest in another Superman solo movie later on.

I expect the studio to at least attempt that. Not sure what the results will be, obviously. I hope he can have some good character moments, in addition to making a difference in combat. They need to try to get people to connect with Cavill in the role (the way people did right away with Gal as WW in BvS).

Honestly, with the amount of Batman film's we have coming out in the near future, the surprise success of WW, the peaked interest in Aquaman, and the other film's that are coming out, I really don't expect Superman to be on Warner Bros's important priorities until they're given a strong reason to. So if Superman pulls a hulk and wins over many people along with Henry garnering more fame from his Mission Impossible role, then I think we may get a new film before 2021.

At this point I've given up trying to figure out what WB will do because I honestly don't think they know for certain, especially with alot riding on the reception to JL.
Sequels to WW and SS are very likely thanks to the success of these films in addition to the Batman and now Shazam, which was scheduled for 2019 release from the get go.
This leaves, Batgirl, GCS, MOS 2, GLC, Nightwing, Flash and possibly Black Adam all vying for a spots so it's really hard to tell.
I predict that in the WB panel, they'll show a JL trailer, a possible early Aquaman teaser, announce Jenkins's return to ww and Shazam but beyond that we may not get any release dates.

It would be cool to have Superman in Shazam and a few months later MOS2 so these movies can start tying together a little bit more.

You took my thoughts right out of my head. This is what I'm leaning on right now. So many thoughts and emotions, though where we could be heading!

Personally I think that once Superman comes back he should be the main person crossing over in every movie since it is almost the case anyways. Even though he didn't appear in SS his presence could be felt in that movie.

So in the Shazam movie will the character be called Shazam or Captain Marvel?

Remains to be seen. With Marvel bringing out a 'Captain Marvel' movie too, I can't imagine they'll use the same name (are they even legally entitled to?), so I wouldn't be surprised if they go with Shazam.

He'll be named Shazam, they've even changed the name from Captain Marvel to Shazam in the comics.

I can't disagree with this, although personally I'd like it each member of the Trinity does the "reaching out" and maybe even a bit of mentoring in future DCEU movies.

Shortly after it was revealed that he would helm Shazam!, Sandberg took to a DCEU Reddit to talk about the film, teasing fans about the Shazam! script and why he chose to direct a film about a boy who becomes a superhero. "To keep it general and not go into script details I'd say the core thing that's appealing to me is the wish fulfillment," said Sandberg. "What kid doesn't want to be Superman? This is a kid that basically gets to become Superman."

Given that Shazam! will take place in the DC Extended Universe, Billy Batson has probably witnessed the events Superman has played a major role in, such as the Black Zero Event, the Trinity battling Doomsday, which lead to Superman's death, and the upcoming Justice League battle against Steppenwolf. For a kid who gets to become Superman, it'll be nice to see a new perspective on major DCEU events from a young fan within the universe.

Makes me think, does this mean we'll get Billy Batson the Superman fan version in the film? This would definitely make a Superman appearance more likely IMO.

I think it would only make sense for pretty much any kid in that universe to be a Superman fan (i.e: that Gotham kid seeing a Superman doll being burned on TV in BvS).

Very true and I forgot about that kid.

I'm kind of disappointed that we get a Shazam movie which is about a kid who gets to be Superman technically, yet no Superman sequel. Shazam isn't even a member of the Justice League. They could've just got The Flash movie to start in it's place. Shazam imo is kind of lame because he is pretty much Superman, unless if they change his abilities and appearance alot

We have had two Superman movies and a third film that will feature him, and there has been talk of a third Superman film and a Superman/Shazam crossover.

Shazam is getting his first film.

I don't see the issue in terms of equitable screen time, attention, etc.

Vaughn’s filmmaking partner Jane Goldman, who confirmed that Vaughn is indeed interested. On whether or not she would be joining him on this project, she had the following to say:

“I know Matthew’s [Vaughn] a big Superman fan. Would I like to… I don’t know. I mean I’m not sure. I think Matthew’s looking at it from a directing point of view. I have no idea what’s happening there.”

“I’m not sure. There might already be a script for it. I think so… I’m not certain actually but it’s complicated with a character with that kind of history. Obviously X-Men have an equally complicated [history]… but Superman feels a lot more recent. He’s been brought to life in a new iteration – he means a lot to a lot of people and maybe there are other people with more a connection with Superman… but who knows.”

I hope Vaughan doesn't go too over the top violent though. I'm sure he can do it but he just needs to reign himself in a bit

X-Men: First Class wasn't over the top with violence.

Neither was Stardust. It's like people forget he does more than Mark Millar adaptations, lol.

Also, while I'm sure we've all read these comments, sometimes a reminder doesn't hurt. Matthew Vaughn on Superman way back before MoS, in 2010:

"I just hope they don't make it too serious. I think that's the one thing not to do with Superman, trying to do the serious 'The Dark Knight' version. Superman is about color and fun, or it should be, for me."

Those are not the words of a guy who would make a cynical, violent Superman film, imo.

Vaughn IMO is one of the finest film makers working today and one of the reasons why I think he's such a great film maker is his versatility, he's made one of my favorite comicbook movies (first class), one of my favorite crime thrillers (layer cake), one of my favorite fantasy films (stardust) and one my favorite spy films (kingsmen).
Him making or being involved with superman at any capacity would be a dream come true and to be honest I'm really glad that there is still a chance that he might be doing superman because after all the flash reports I thought that vaughn on superman was a no deal.

Superman showing up in a Shazam film actually could work

Well it's not just about screen time. It's also about the fact that, after many people said that Wonder Woman better embodied the "pure superhero" (and should therefore fill that "role" in the DCEU), it would be disappointing to see another hero do the same, while Superman doesn't get the chance to be that sort of hero in his own movie.

It would make sense for Superman
to be the one crossing over into other films, primarily.
