The picture thing from both sides proves absolutely nothing and is just plain silly.

Indeed, and it always happens with this character.

"He hardly smiles! See?!"

"He smiles a lot! See?!"

Well, not surprised we got to this point, really.

I guess I was tired of repeating an argument over and over. God knows how many times I've debated over Man of Steel and how Superman was presented.
Figured I would show this time instead of tell.

But seeing where it went... yeah, it was pretty silly.

It's been proven that humans memories are notoriously unreliable. So maybe because of some people's distaste for the portrayal of the character that their memories just made up that "he never smiles," falsehood. I mean if you're a entertainment writer and you're supposed to be presenting factual evidence about why you do not like something I do think you should go back and watch the film instead of relying on your memory of what apparently was a miserable experience for you. That type of unprofessional writing upsets me very much. It's easy to critique both MOS and BvS without peddling falsehoods.

It's imperative that people be accurate in their critiques. Saying that he does not smile very much is fine. Saying that he never smiles is not fine because it is untrue. Saying that he smiles a lot is also not fine because it's untrue.

I'm starting to think Zack only posted those pics on Vero for damage control after the news came out that Joe Mangneillo was nearly Superman. To show that Henry was always the choice.

That wasn't new news.

I must say that my friend FilmNerdJamie continues to say that Henry Cavill was Nolan's choice while Joe Manganiello was Zack Snyder's choice.

I'm never forgetting that they nearly cast that no talent Joe as Superman, I love you Zack but you better do damage control for that one.

If you sit down and think about it Joe Manganiello seems like a Zack Snyder choice.

Just like Eisenberg for Lex seems like a Zack Snyder choice ?

To be fair that's the only Snyder casting I don't like. He did great with all the heroes. Now whether he let Henry shine is another thing all together but it was still great casting.

Well i'm glad Joe wasn't chosen for Superman.

Yep, I gave Eisenberg's casting a chance but at the end of the day I think it was a huge mistake. I thought it was really interesting at first but seeing it in the movie? Yikes, I think it was wrong.

I don't dislike Joe Manganiello like other people in here but I don't think he was right for the role. He just doesn't have that feel and I think an actor needs that natural feel.

I have never gotten the big deal about Joe at all. I think he's a pretty flavorless actor. I join the chorus that thinks he's a terrible choice for Deathstroke, one of my all time favorite villains from DC. If there are lots of adjustments going on BTS then Ireally hope that casting choice is being reconsidered. Deathstroke really needs a star or a great character actor to play him on the big screen. I would go nuts in a good way if a Pitt or a Sean Bean type were cast.

I am still hoping we get some surprise Zack wackiness like him dropping a still of Henry in the black suit. Even just a BTS of the whole team in front of green screens would be cool.

Same! Yeah I agree about Joe. But it would've been cool with a Superman towering over everyone at 6'5" like in the animated series.

Idk, the somber pictures prove nothing because you can take 7 somber pictures of any character in these films, but the smiling pictures do prove that he does smile, several times, and that has been a critique leveled at the film by some, that he never smiles

I don't know what a star has to do with anything but I wouldn't care whether Joe Manganiello was axed from the Batman film. I mean I would be perfectly fine at that role was recast.

I prefer correct casting over a star. I mean that's what we constantly heard about Ghost in the Shell. It needed a star like Scarlett Johansson in the lead role to succeed and it's a big ole flop.

Yeah, that was kind of a bummer, when I first heard the casting because, especially with Batman, and even before the Nolan films, that's always the first thing you wanna know, "Which iconic villain, and who is going to be playing them?" And you want it to be as exciting as possible. Deathstroke just isn't really who I think of when I think Rogues Gallery, but that's okay, he's interesting. But Joe M., all I really know him from is some "Bro" "dude" "sweet" guy in How I Met Your Mother, and some shirtless werewolf who was obviously chosen just as eye candy for females in True Blood, and neither one was good acting. But, hey, if they see something in him, maybe he's got more range and hasn't had a chance to show it yet, but Idk. If news came out that he or both he and the character were scrapped from the film, I wouldn't be very upset

Well I said star or great character actor. OT I know but I love me some Deathstroke. Always felt that he was a character with untapped potential for DC in other media and the last twenty years has seen his profile raised considerably. From the Titans cartoon, YJ, the DTVs, and of course ARROW and video games he's more known now than ever before. When you look at most of the casting for super villains in comparison to super heroes you are more likely to have a known quantity in the role. Heroes are sometimes cast with relative unknowns but villains get some gravitas added to them by getting someone with a track record to bring them to life. Villains also get to do their fair share of scenery chewing so better it be someone that can do that right. Joe doesn't bring any of that to the table but a Pitt or a Keanu Reeves even, would in my estimation.

Let's just say, if there is a JL sequel with Darkseid it won't be a Joe M. type that Henry is matching Supes heat vision against Omega beams with. It will be a respected character actor like a Ron Perlman or a Hugo Weaving or it will be star like Liam Neeson or Denzel Washington.
