It is an amazing suit, I never tire of seeing it.
Yeah, I agree. I do the same thing. This suit looks... Believable. Idk Like if there was a real Superman this is what his suit would look like. It's hard to describe. Not like something from a halloween store *cough ASM2 cough cough*. Jk :woot: but seriously, I say it all the time, I've never felt so proud as a Supes fan as I am about that suit.

It's good to know I'm not alone in this :cwink:

could someone please direct me to that Halloween store then? yeah, it doesn't look like a hundred-thousand dollar suit (which is a good thing for Spidey), but it most certainly looks better than anything you'll find in a store, dramatically better.

Ladies.... Enjoy (;

this is patrick wayne, one of john wayne's kids. apparently, before reeve was cast, wayne was cast but wayne dropped out because his father, john wayne, was diagnosed with stomach cancer. he was a dead ringer for cavill.

Probably the more a job for Larry Fong, but I'd really appreciate it if Superman didn't look twilight pale in the next film.

I quite like the pale look, for me it makes sense and adds to the 'realism'.

Think about it, how does a Caucasian typically darken their skin - by sunbathing.

Superman would be very pale as his skin would not tan/burn in the sun due to his invulnerability so would not darken at all.

Superman is quite a tragic character in a sense, and this is a plus in my book. Particularly as people call him boring and one dimensional. He clearly is a force for good, and has the right intentions.

Kingdom Come is a good example as any. In Superman’s absence, killers are masquerading as heroes. Big blue returns to put a stop to this, reforming the justice league. He wants Batman to join, but the offer is refused. Batman outlines why he won’t, citing the concept won’t fly.

Superman continues anyway, deciding to act in a louder decisive way. The league locks up more people than covert them, with the prisoners not listening to the messages of hope. A riot ensues, with Superman confounded as to how it happened. His ambition can be a weakness.

Ala Superman: Peace on Earth. He wanted to deliver food to all the starving around the world, but soon realised it was an unachievable feat. People have to reach inner peace in their own time.

Superman is an ideal to strive towards. He’s always there, leading by example. When people are ready, they can join him. This might be a bunch of nonsense, but that’s my two cents.
Most people cite All-Star Superman as their favorite Superman story. For me, it was Kingdom Come that soundly knocked the Dark Knight off his pedestal and cemented Superman's place as top dog in my heart. :yay: Red Son grabbed my attention, but Kingdom Come won me over.

Lots of people like those influences on their Superman/Batman movies. I do not like them and do want to see them on screen so I am always opposed to them.

Well said. I firmly believe that Superman's optimism and resilience in the face of adversity is what makes him such an inspiring character.

People's preference for Superman or Batman seems directly proportional to whether they are an optimist or a pessimist in regards to human nature.

I don't see what that has to with my explanation that Kingdom Come made Superman my favorite character, but okay.

That's an interesting premise that I have never heard stated that way. For me it's just that both of those stories are just too preachy and angle to much on the religious angle for both characters. I always recommend staying away from that.

It has nothing to do with it. I just don't want that to influence a movie. Both stories weight heavily on allegory and lots of preachy-ness. It's nothing personal. I like them both individual for their own merits, just not as influences for a movie about the characters.

Superman stories always seem to emphasize the idea that anyone can be a force for good. I forget exactly where it was from, but there's this Superman story where Big Blue picks up a two-bit young crook and says something to the effect of, "Son, I know where you're coming from, but you don't want to do this."

Batman, on the other hand, would likely scare the guy senseless. If he were to abandon his criminal ways, it would likely be due to fear of the Bat.

Maybe that's the biggest difference between Supes and Bats - appealing to hope vs. fear.

Hmm....you know what's so funny. I don't consider myself and optimist, but Supes is my greatest hero. Bats is second.

:yay: No worries though. Not starting any arguments. I just found your premise very interesting. It may have been the first time I've ever heard it.

^ OK, now you've got me curious: Why is Superman your favourite hero?

Yeah, I don't think they should make too much of an effort trying to hide how fit he is. Just say that he really enjoys working out and be done with it.
Yeah seriously. How many things can he hide and disguise. His actual disguise is hiding in plain sight. He might not be a dork in this. They can just say he is fit and be done with it. There fit guys who are awkward too.

Are you kidding? This is the Cavill/Superman thread - which (given that we've mostly heard about Batman lately) effectively means it is the Superman thread. I'd love to hear why you prefer Superman, especially since you said you are not an optimist.

Maybe it's precisely because Superman represents a symbol of optimism and hope that you find him inspiring?

:cwink:

I have never been able to get on board with Batman's revenge angle. Supes is different in that he always has hope. Hope can be one of the hardest things to find in life. So that is what he has always represented to me.

edit:

I LOVE how they touched on the symbol as meaning HOPE.

That's the beauty of Superman - he inspires optimism. :supes: It's one of the reasons I prefer Man of Steel to Batman Begins.

Yes, it is possible to blame Superman for the destruction of Metropolis, and those who have criticized the movie for this reason certainly have valid points. But at the same time, if you assume a world in which the mere presence of Superman on Earth was responsible for bringing in the Kryptonians, you still can't deny that Kal-El did everything possible to "stand tall in front of the human race" in the wake of the Kryptonian invasion.

Me too. You and I are on the same wavelength.

I think for some people "the killing" is an issue. It's hard for me to even watch him snap someone's neck on screen. It's a very hard scene for me to watch. I don't blame some for faulting some of his other actions too because I did feel that was completely out of character.

The way I see it, Superman has always represented the spirit of the times. For better or for worse, the Superman in MOS is a fitting symbol of contemporary attitudes towards violence in the service of a perceived greater good.

We now have a Superman that snapped the neck of his enemy with his bare hands. Ostensibly, this is the result of Superman wanting to protect the lives of innocents. But how hard is it to transpose that attitude towards American foreign policy - the idea that state forces are entitled to take whatever actions they need to because the "enemy" is represented as an inhuman monster with no compunction towards killing civilians?

It echoes the morality of The Dark Knight, where the Joker was seen as a kind of terrorist proxy. You can debate whether I'm over-interpreting these movies (there's certainly a strong case to be made for that), but I think it's important to consider the broader impact art has on society.
