Henry Cavill IS Superman: - Part 7

You know what, I was a big Mangiello supporter and part of the reason for that was that I wanted a true 6"3 - 6"5 guy playing Superman. Someone who looked big, powerful, imposing, as I've always seen Superman drawn.

But I'll happily admit, I was probably wrong. Cavill's more 'normal' 6"1-ish height works perfect for making his Clark Kent persona more invisible in a crowd of people, and when he's in Superman guise they can use lifts and camera angles to accentuate his height and stature a little, and only if he needs it (i.e. in a scene with other tall actors).

Cavill's workout regime and build have also made him look very broad and strong in the shoulder/chest area, which again helps with his stature if they're going to exaggerate his height a little. That's important because ordinarily a smaller guy wearing lifts still has a small stature, and does not look like a naturally taller guy would - which was one of the main reasons a lot of people opposed the casting of say, Matthew Bomer. But Cavill just looks big now anyway, and 1-2 inches extra height in Superman guise won't look out of place.

Overall I agree with that. In this movie so long as he looks a little bit taller than the human co-stars I'm happy. That's easy to do. He should look a few inches taller than Pa-Kent and Perry White (both of whom are played by 6ft+ actors this time) or even Lex in the movie.

They may have him "say" 6'4" in the movie if he is asked his height, just to make the GA happy since that is what they believe Superman's stature to be, based on the older movies, which are very well known, and so he does not come off as "anything less than Reeve".

They should be making him look a few inches taller than other men he is filmed with, then that's good enough.

Not to the degree that it looks like a whole head taller than every single human man which makes him stand out like dog balls however.

A tall superman has never served any purpose beyond aesthetic. I mean I get why Darkseid has to be tall but superman's height is less important than even his trunks. It's just fan service. Which was ran though the mud with the advent of Hugh Jackman.

How many people felt Lois and Clark was ruined while watching it because of Cains height. Or how many felt Routh saved Returns with his height. I just don't think it serves a purpose. That being said given what was done to Evan's I can easily see a simply inch height increase by way of effects if need be..but need does no be.

IMHO it still matters, because aesthetics matter. He should look taller than average, and that means a few inches over Pa kent or Perry White etc...

The scenes in L&C where normal human men towered over Cain on a regular basis, either as Clark, or even Superman was annoying. Did it ruin it? No. Could it have been better if they would have used a bit of perspective to make him look a few inches taller? Yes.

Even for the Role of Wolverine they did make Jackman look a little bit shorter. He is 6'2" or 6'3", and they sure did not allow him to tower over most of the other male character the way they could have let him.

Likewise for Cavill they should film him to look a little taller than his co-stars.

Not 8'9" or anything like Darkseid, but I definitely do not want him to come off as only average height the way Cain did in L&C.

What's the conversion from inches to meters?

If this is in reference to me, I'm at a loss.
Some people think the dude is short, I'm questioning why that should matter.

Dam I have to commend some of you guys, in truth don’t know how you do it. The same topic circulated over and over and over and over again. I could leave this forum now and return in 3 months and I am sure someone will bring up the same ole convo. Yes I am aware of a lack of news maybe being the reason but lord don’t it get tiring.........I mean really not even a bit?

I agree he shouldn't be shorter than his parents and such. And Cavil achieves that. He's a tall dude.(maybe even the tallest in Immortals). But he need not be very tall. I missed where that is a part of his character.

Logan shouldn't tower over people and they dealt with that, but I point out that they didn't chris evans him into looking 5'3 cause that's a simple aesthetic. Cavil just seems tall enough for it to be a non issue.

That shouldn't be a problem considering Cavils height.

Sure. At one point I had to leave the Hype because I was losing my mind. I took a one year hiatus, I believe.

Surprisingly, this is the first I've heard that I can recall about what fans think of his height.

Not at all. This forum is closely resembling a really bad acid trip.

The subject is in reference to a post meant to cause trouble. Nothing of which you did.

Said post was deleted and poster dealt with.

Thus said subject will be dropped, i.e. not to be brought back up again following my post here. Or else.

Henry Cavill's height and Amy Adams 's red hair have been the constant irritating topics in this board over and over again!LOL! Cavill's 6"1 height "Short."?!!! seriously! short is 5'7 like tom cruise!:whatever: whatever! must be a slow news day for the height talk to be resurrected again!:woot:

It's just the ways of a message board though... and in fairness, in a thread that's specifically about Henry Cavill, everything about him is going to get discussed.

His hair, his muscles, his accent, his personality, his past roles, his future roles, and his height are just a few of the most popular ones.

I'm surprised we don't talk about his teeth or his fashion sense :p

That shouldn't be a problem considering Cavils height.

Superman is characterized as taller than most human men, and is ussually drawn to be such.

Its the degree of it which matters, since his co-star actors are the same height as Cavill, they should be using a couple tricks to give him an extra few inches.

That would make him simply look a little taller than they are, but again he does not need to look drastically taller either. He should be "more than" the same height as his co-stars.

If he comes off as the same height as his co-stars that would give the impression he is only average height, and Superman should always be more than average.

For the same reason he has a more impressive looking physique than the average man, so to he should look taller.

This is not a dig against Cavill either, simply stating that using persective to favor his height over other actors who are the same as his real height the opposite of what was done for Hugh Jackman.

No, he is not characterized as such, it's just been circumstance. Moreover he's been drawn that way because that's the way superheroes are drawn. (6 heads and all that jazz). Same goes for Batman and Cap.

Big Barda is characterized as tall woman, now that's fact.

For the same reason he has a more impressive looking physique than the average man, so to he should look taller.

Again this is simply the way they draw superheros. For instance, ow many superheros don't have 8 packs...what's tony stark characterization need to do his abs.

Unlike say Thor, I've seen superman drawn at an average height very often, and the editors let that go because it's not analogous to the character. Just look at the new Morrison run for example.
Sure he looks more heroic by the greek standards of terms but really superman has been drawn to look impressive for the same reason every human green lantern has. Comic books are as much as slave to physical arch types as Hollywood is.

If anything unlike Batman and definitely unlike Cap, the character of Superman should be able to get away with looking relatively normal(like reeves did). Besides, I'd love to find out what all the gym heads that post on here think about how on earth superman developed the body he has. It's not like he taxes his body 5 days a week at the local gym.

You must mean "the fanboys" because the GA doesn't care the slightest bit about Superman's actual height as long as he looks tall. And I can guarantee you very few audience members will remember what Supes's height was supposed to be in the old Reeve movies.

Superman is listed as 6'3" in the latest issue (#2) of Justice League.

You're not saying he should only look average height are you?

He is ussually drawn above average height, as you said he is drawn to look impressive. IMHO he should also look impressive in the movie.

His sourcebook states say he is 6'3" and not 5'10' (average), because his IS supposed to be taller than average, and he is ussually drawn taller than most normal humans. Any comic art that depicts him as average height is the exception, not the rule.

Cavill is pretty tall at 6'1", which is tall enough to play the character for sure, but when you cast other major roles with actors who are just as tall, then he would look average unless you do use perspective to make him look a little taller than they are when sharing the screen with them in particular.

If Kevin Costner and Lawrence Fishburn were not the same height as Cavill I would not even bring it up, as 6'1" is ussually tall enough to look a few inches taller than most other men on screen. Just not in a case where you are casting guys in roles who will share some amount of screen time with him who make him seem average.

If they do not anything to at least make him look a few inches taller than his co-stars, being they are just as tall as Cavill, he will come across as only average.

So Cavill is what, about 6 feet, maybe 6'1? It's fixed easily enough with lifts in his shoes. I'm sure he will look plenty tall in the movie. He did a great job bulking up his shoulders, neck, and traps, so I think he will come off as tall and broad shouldered on film.
