This is a continuation thread, the old thread is [split]362877[/split]
You know what, I was a big Mangiello supporter and part of the reason for that was that I wanted a true 6"3 - 6"5 guy playing Superman. Someone who looked big, powerful, imposing, as I've always seen Superman drawn.
But I'll happily admit, I was probably wrong. Cavill's more 'normal' 6"1-ish height works perfect for making his Clark Kent persona more invisible in a crowd of people, and when he's in Superman guise they can use lifts and camera angles to accentuate his height and stature a little, and only if he needs it (i.e. in a scene with other tall actors).
Cavill's workout regime and build have also made him look very broad and strong in the shoulder/chest area, which again helps with his stature if they're going to exaggerate his height a little. That's important because ordinarily a smaller guy wearing lifts still has a small stature, and does not look like a naturally taller guy would - which was one of the main reasons a lot of people opposed the casting of say, Matthew Bomer. But Cavill just looks big now anyway, and 1-2 inches extra height in Superman guise won't look out of place.
A tall superman has never served any purpose beyond aesthetic. I mean I get why Darkseid has to be tall but superman's height is less important than even his trunks. It's just fan service. Which was ran though the mud with the advent of Hugh Jackman.
How many people felt Lois and Clark was ruined while watching it because of Cains height. Or how many felt Routh saved Returns with his height. I just don't think it serves a purpose. That being said given what was done to Evan's I can easily see a simply inch height increase by way of effects if need be..but need does no be.
Playing stupid isn't going to make matters any better for a trouble-maker. Trolling is running into a specifically-themed thread and making remarks 100% for the purpose of stirring the pot.
It was in reference to a few deleted posts. If this is in reference to me, I'm at a loss.
Some people think the dude is short, I'm questioning why that should matter.
IMHO it still matters, because aesthetics matter. He should look taller than average, and that means a few inches over Pa kent or Perry White etc...
The scenes in L&C where normal human men towered over Cain on a regular basis, either as Clark, or even Superman was annoying. Did it ruin it? No. Could it have been better if they would have used a bit of perspective to make him look a few inches taller? Yes.
Even for the Role of Wolverine they did make Jackman look a little bit shorter. He is 6'2" or 6'3", and they sure did not allow him to tower over most of the other male character the way they could have let him.
Likewise for Cavill they should film him to look a little taller than his co-stars.
Not 8'9" or anything like Darkseid, but I definitely do not want him to come off as only average height the way Cain did in L&C.
Dam I have to commend some of you guys, in truth dont know how you do it. The same topic circulated over and over and over and over again. I could leave this forum now and return in 3 months and I am sure someone will bring up the same ole convo. Yes I am aware of a lack of news maybe being the reason but lord dont it get tiring.........I mean really not even a bit?

Surprisingly, this is the first I've heard that I can recall about what fans think of his height.

Henry Cavill's height and Amy Adams 's red hair have been the constant irritating topics in this board over and over again!LOL! Cavill's 6"1 height "Short."?!!! seriously! short is 5'7 like tom cruise! whatever! must be a slow news day for the height talk to be resurrected again!t:
I agree he shouldn't be shorter than his parents and such. And Cavil achieves that. He's a tall dude.(maybe even the tallest in Immortals). But he need not be very tall. I missed where that is a part of his character.
Logan shouldn't tower over people and they dealt with that, but I point out that they didn't chris evans him into looking 5'3 cause that's a simple aesthetic. Cavil just seems tall enough for it to be a non issue.
That shouldn't be a problem considering Cavils height.
No, he is not characterized as such, it's just been circumstance. Moreover he's been drawn that way because that's the way superheroes are drawn. (6 heads and all that jazz). Same goes for Batman and Cap.Superman is characterized as taller than most human men, and is ussually drawn to be such.
For the same reason he has a more impressive looking physique than the average man, so to he should look taller.
Overall I agree with that. In this movie so long as he looks a little bit taller than the human co-stars I'm happy. That's easy to do. He should look a few inches taller than Pa-Kent and Perry White (both of whom are played by 6ft+ actors this time) or even Lex in the movie.
They may have him "say" 6'4" in the movie if he is asked his height, just to make the GA happy since that is what they believe Superman's stature to be, based on the older movies, which are very well known, and so he does not come off as "anything less than Reeve".
They should be making him look a few inches taller than other men he is filmed with, then that's good enough.
Not to the degree that it looks like a whole head taller than every single human man which makes him stand out like dog balls however.
Superman is listed as 6'3" in the latest issue (#2) of Justice League.
Unlike say Thor, I've seen superman drawn at an average height very often, and the editors let that go because it's not analogous to the character. Just look at the new Morrison run for example.
Sure he looks more heroic by the greek standards of terms but really superman has been drawn to look impressive for the same reason every human green lantern has. Comic books are as much as slave to physical arch types as Hollywood is.
