When a class war erupts inside a luxurious apartment block, modern elevators become violent battlegrounds and cocktail parties degenerate into marauding attacks on “enemy” floors. In this visionary tale, human society slips into violent reverse as once-peaceful residents, driven by primal urges, re-create a world ruled by the laws of the jungle.

Yep, after Kill List and Sightseers this definitely sounds fitting for someone like Wheatley to tackle.

I've always wanted to read one of JB Ballard's books. How are they in general?

Tom Hiddleston to Star in Ben Wheatley's Adaptation of High-Rise

A Field in England and Kill List director Ben Wheatley hopped on his Twitter account to reveal that his adaptation of High-Rise will star Tom Hiddleston!
High-Rise is Wheatley's next project once he has wrapped directing duties on "Doctor Who. Filming will start this June from a script by Amy Jump. Jeremy Thomas will produce.

Published in 1975, J.G. Ballard's novel is described as follows: When a class war erupts inside a luxurious apartment block, modern elevators become violent battlegrounds and cocktail parties degenerate into marauding attacks on "enemy" floors. In this visionary tale, human society slips into violent reverse as once-peaceful residents, driven by primal urges, re-create a world ruled by the laws of the jungle.

Hiddleston, of course, is best known as the co-star of the "Thor" films and Marvel's The Avengers. He'll next be seen in the vampire filmOnly Lovers Left Alive.

This book sounds pretty out there, so Wheatley is definitely an ideal choice to do an adaptation and I like that it'll be a period piece. Plus Hiddleston is always a welcome addition.

I wanna read this guy's books. Are they easy reads?

Irons, Miller Joins Wheatley's "High Rise"

By Garth Franklin Wednesday May 14th 2014 09:18AM
Jeremy Irons and Sienna Miller will join Tom Hiddleston on Ben Wheatley's "High-Rise" at RPC.
An adaptation of J.G. Ballard's 1975 satirical dystopian novel, the story is set in a luxury ultra-modern high-rise building and follows a group of affluent tenants who revert to barbarism.
Cocktail parties degenerate into attacks on 'enemy' floors and once-luxurious amenities become an arena for primal and violent mayhem. Irons will play a visionary architect and Miller his devoted aide who strikes up a relationship with Hiddleston's character.
Additional casting is underway and filming gets underway in July in Belfast. Jeremy Thomas will produce.

High-Rise
The first photo is out of Tom Hiddleston, Luke Evans, cinematographer Laurie Rose, and director Ben Wheatley on the set of the film adaptation of J.G. Ballard's darkly satirical horror tale "High Rise". There's even a LEGO version of this photo out. Click here for the actual one, and here for the LEGO one.

Wheatley is awesome and this has a solid cast. Looks interesting

Here's the official synopsis:

London, 1975.

A slick apartment tower rises above the Thames, the beginnings of what will soon become the world’s biggest financial hub.Dominating the landscape, it is simply called the HIGH-RISE… its address a mark of exclusivity. Its newest resident is Robert Laing, an ambitious young doctor utterly seduced by the lifestyle and cutting-edge technology the high-rise has to offer.

Laing meets Wilder, a charismatic provocateur who introduces him to the seedy underbelly of the high-rise. The cracks in this apparently flawless society grow rapidly, and Laing is shocked at the depravity he sees. Life in the high-rise quickly descends into madness and violence, and Laing finds himself amongst the marauding hordes of bloodthirsty tenants who take over the building, floor by floor.

A disturbing vision from the director of Kill List, this action-packed thriller depicts society’s most chilling nightmares.

I have never seen a film by this director, but have heard great things about this book and the teaser sold me.

The movie synopsis makes this sound like Snowpiercer, but in a building.
