Best horror movie since I'm not even sure.

Effective not just in its depiction of genre horror but societal horror and seamlessly communicates those two things in a dark, disturbing harmony rather than trying to graft one on the other.

Exceptional lead performances, cinematography, editing.

Boss level debut from Remi Weekes, who has immediately become a director I will follow closely from here on.

Anyone check this out yet? It's done quite well critically but still seems to be flying under the radar for a lot of folks.

His House and The Dark and the Wicked are two of my favorite horror films to come out this year, even though I know not a whole lot has actually come out this in the first place.

I loved this film though and while I found the scares/creepiness of The Dark and the Wicked to better more effective overall one area it was really lacking in for me was the characters which is something I didn't have a problem with in this film.

Such hypnotic and engaging performances from the two leads and I definitely felt sympathetic towards them for the crappy situation they were stuck in while facing real life horrors and supernatural ones at the same time.

Happy to see this as #1 on several 2020 Horror lists, including Paste's and Scott Wampler's. Very deserved.
