Hogwarts: Legacy - Open World Harry Potter Game

They say Rowling has “very little” involvement, but I don’t know how true that is. I think they’re just doing everything they can to distance themselves.

Still, I’ve been looking forward to this since that leaked gameplay trailer, so bring it on.

A few of the movie tie in Harry Potter games that came out years ago experimented with an open world concept. Specifically Chamber of Secrets and Prisoner of Azkaban for PS2 and Xbox and Order of the Phoenix and Half-Blood Prince for Xbox 360 and PS3. You could explore the Hogwarts castle and grounds in all of them. I remember especially liking Prisoner of Azkaban because you could fly Buckbeak around.

I can see the appeal of an open world Harry Potter RPG but I have no interest in it, not because of what JK Rowling said but because I've already had my fill with the deluge of games that we got over the decade when the films were being released.

That's fair. I think it could be a lot of fun, especially if you get to be a proper student at the school. Going to class, making friends, hijinks around the castle. I just would want it to be based around the castle, with the exception of a certain alley.

I'd be interested if it has all the characters from the films and books.

Damn. I would love an open world Harry Potter game. I didn't play the tie in videogames in the past because "they were tie in videogames". But an AAA Harry Potter videogame that looks well made and looks fun to play would be magical!

It takes place in the 1800s or something
Actually, we aren't sure on that. Because a lot of it that info was apparently incorrect. If it is true the announcement will come around the DC thing in August, we probably don't have long to wait to find out.

A create your own student wizard RPG set in the Harry Potter game? Count me in.

when was it ever confirmed a lot of the info was incorrect?

there were two articles from IGN this year about this game, one of them has a "false rumors" section and neither of them disputed whether the 19th century timeline aspect was accurate or not.

The article I posted in the initial post. Schreier wrote it, which means it's basically gospel.

He said most of the rumors that came out after the footage leaked were false. The 19th century setting was included in the description attached to the initial leak. It wasn't a rumor that started circulating on the internet later on.

This is what it says:

Harry Potter is among the highest-profile projects within Warner Bros. Interactive, along with a Batman game that is in the works. Footage from a very early version of the untitled game began circulating in 2018. That video was authentic, but most of the rumors that have come out since are not, said one of the people working on it. Despite a series of challenges—a global pandemic, a fierce backlash against the franchise’s creator, a possible sale of the Warner Bros. video game publishing business—the game remains on track for next year, the person said.

The footage is authentic and that most of the rumors that have come out since are not. That is all it says. That probably includes what was leaked with the footage. We just got this with TloU Part 2, and that stuff leaked only two months out. Now does that mean the game is or isn't set in the 19th century? No. It simply means we don't know.

I don't agree that what Schreier said includes what was leaked with the footage. I interpreted what he said to mean any news or details surrounding the development of the game has circulated the internet in the two years since the leak first happened is what is false. If I'm wrong, then I'll own up to it when the game is officially announced. But for now I don't believe Schreier is dispelling the setting.

The footage is the footage. Any words leaked with it are rumors. Are they true? Maybe. But we don't know if they are or not. This has happened multiple times in games, film, television, etc. Footage leaks with "details" and the details turn out to be false. We don't know how the person who leaked the footage got the footage, or what they actually know, what may have changed in development, or even if they are telling the truth.

My point is that the words I quoted leaked with the footage are from the same source. I am not saying they are true for fact, but I'm inclined to believe them because they came from the same source that leaked the footage. And we do know how the person who leaked the footage got the footage too (assuming they're telling the truth but again, he/she is the one who leaked it to begin with). More details in that quote were corroborated with the actual leaked footage as well, which leads credence to them being legitimate in my opinion.

That is circular reasoning.

I assume the quote you speak of is the one given with the footage or after. Of course they are consistent with the footage. You'd base them around the footage.
Not after the footage, with the footage. And I'm not just basing them around it, it's what was seen. The quote says we can attack goblins and we see the player attack a goblin in the leak.

Holy crap, I was beginning to think that this was never going to be revealed but it looks so much better than I even anticipated since it's been so long since the leak. I'm so excited to finally be able to play this.
