Homeland Security Arrests Brit Tourists For ‘Dangerous’ Tweets

Don't joke about digging up Marilyn Monroe if you're coming to America. Homeland Security takes that **** REAL serious.

'Free this week, for quick gossip/prep before I go and destroy America?'
'3 weeks today, we're totally in LA p****** people off on Hollywood Blvd and diggin' Marilyn Monroe up!'
These tweets are what got two British tourists detained overnight by Homeland Security, who searched their bags for shovels and spades in an attempt to foil a desecration of Marilyn Monroe's grave.
The offending tweeter was Lee Van Bryan, who was locked up with Mexican drug smugglers. Says his travel pal, Emily Banting:
'The officials told us we were not allowed in to the country because of Leigh's tweet. They wanted to know what we were going to do. They asked why we wanted to destroy America and we tried to explain it meant to get trashed and party. I almost burst out laughing when they asked me if I was going to be Leigh's lookout while he dug up Marilyn Monroe. I couldn't believe it because it was a quote from the comedy Family Guy which is an American show.'
The sheer level of stupidity on display here is amazing. Yes, Bryan seems sort of like a *****ebag, but whatever - as of now there are no laws regulating dbags in this country. The overreaction by Homeland Security is so shocking that I have to assume there's another level to this story. Was Bryan previously on a watchlist for drug smuggling? Some other crime? He can't have been kicked out of the country for tweets that are so obviously jokes/slang, could he?

Here's the documents from his bouncing, should you question the event happened:

This is what a police state looks like... and it's really, really humorless.

I'm curious how Homeland Security got his tweets.

This is quite literally the biggest facepalm I've ever read.
It makes me ashamed to live in America, to be quite honest.

Someone should try this & see what happens LOL

Since when did the government become hype moderators who ban people from the country?

Thank god a terrorist attack has been averted. My hats off to the guys at Homeland.

If you're planning criminal action, keep it off social media...or actually maybe keep doing it, I like getting a nice laugh out of how completely STUPID people are.

If this were a real terrorist, I could give two ****'s if Homeland reads tweets or violates any type of "freedoms", keep me safe by any means necessary.

Mess with our Marilyn? I don't think so you limey Brits. USA! USA! USA!

You say that now. First its reading tweets and texts, then its tapping phones, then its our mail, and our emails. Terrorists arent going to tweet their damn plans like a 14 year old girl who's going to her first party. Besides that tweet is so obviously sarcasm its not even funny. We pay intelligence analysts to analyze so we don't make these kind of dumb mistakes. Whoever is responsible for this should be fired.

Oh and fun fact, I know someone who works for homeland security as an intelligence analyst. His job is to analyze tips and threats that come in. According to him they receive hundreds of tips on any given day. And on any given day the tips are complete BS for one reason or another. It creates a situation where you have to read between the lines and use gut instinct to determine credible tips. All this spying on the public is worthless if the analysts do not feel its a credible threat. Case in point, 9/11. Your safety isn't determined by the spying and snooping our government does. No, on any given day the people of this country are kept safe by analysts guessing and taking chances. In the end they are more likely to act on a bogus threat like this one while a real threat slips through unnoticed. This is why we need people who are good at their job and have a feel for this type of work. Fire the people responsible for this.

Can't wait to see what happens when a US citizen get stopped. I imagine some lawyer will have a field day with 1st amendment violations.

Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary security, deserve neither liberty nor security.

Do some research on the McCarthy hearings to see what happens when we give the government that much power in the name of "protecting" us.

We have only ourselves to blame for how out of control our government is. WE THE PEOPLE.

We have the power...but we prefer to just sit back and suck down our Starbucks and watch. :)

I don't drink Starbucks. Too expensive.

I don't know much about twitter (don't use it), but can't everyone see tweets?
