Isn't THAT BAD. He's actually one of my favorite actors. I LOVE That '70s Show. He played Eddie Brock perfectly, the writing was just.. really off. Plus, he had absolutely no screen time. And, he's just a tad bit too skinny.

Other than that, he's perfect for the role.

I agree topher grace wasn't that bad. and it's not his fault if u ppl think "eddie/venom sucked" it's the writers. I'd rather have a person who actually has passion and intrest in the character play them than some random guy with huge muscles that just wants a paycheck and can't even act.
and if ppl can't seperat toper grace from eric forman than that's thier problem. all the spidey films draw material heavily from the ultimate comics and eddie brock himself was in the ultimate style..kinda skinny.. and if ppl would actually pay attention they would notice that venom actually was buff. just cause he didn't look like tod mcfarlanes venom doesn't mean it's not venom...i don't see alot complaining about JR Jr's venom look.

Raimi really dropped the ball on that character. Venom makes Dr. Doom from FF seem to leap right from the pages of the comics.

C'mon, you can't really mean that, at the very least, when Venom was in action he was like the character, and as a visual, he was as good as the comic character. Because, no matter what you think of the character, Venom looks great.
And Venom does not even begin to compare to Doc Doom as a villan, so what was lost in the FF movie does not compare to what you may think was lost in SM3's Venom.
I have not read the Ultimate version, but I did like the way the character was concieved in SM3, yes, it is a shame he did not get more screentime/development, but all things considered, we got enough to know where he was coming from in regards to being an asshatian type of person.
The actor was very good, 1st time i'd seen him in anything, he was funny.

i don't know why everyone hates him...personally i love him. that 70's show is fricken awesome. he's in mona lisa smile too, which is one of my favorite movies of all time...

The only problem that I guess a lot of people have with Topher Grace is that he's too skinny. Eddie Brock has always been really bulky. Not that big of a deal though.

It was the damn writing :cmad:.

first off, I just want everyone to know, I loved topher as EBJ/Venom. and in his other roles - P.S.,T7S; and Win a date, among his other roles.

what alotta people need to learn though, that this isn't 616 universe EB. this is EBJ from the Ultimate Universe. this is the best pic I could find but this :

is still skinnier than this, muscle suit or not :

I found it really annoying that the symbiote didn't cover his face most of the time. I mean, when Eddie Brock became Venom he lost all humanity, we definitely didn't need to see his face.

I would have liked a more vicious voice also, just Topher and a little distortion didn't provide a scary enough effect. The whole being in the movie for 8 minutes also really pissed me off.

'Course Topher ain't that bad! He always plays the same damn character but he's very good at it.

It's when people say Venom was screwed up in the movie based on his size that makes me question if they even know what they're talking about. Venom hasn't always been a hulk of muscle. Sometimes he was, other times he wasn't. It's artist interpretation. You may like the big Venom, but I think it'd look dumb to have a ******ed CGI hulking Venom in contrast with the characters of this film.

They did what suited the film best, and used the COMICS as inspiration. People deny that, but it's fact.

Boom. Right there. And that's before Spider-Man 3. He was pretty much that size in the film, if not bigger. The face was more based of Bagley's design I think though.

So you can say what you want about the character, but the size is a stupid argument.

Well I agree, I didn't say that his lack of bulkiness was necessarily completely my opinion. I would have liked Eddie Brock to be a little bit bigger than Topher, but it's in no means a deal breaker.

@webhead731 I wish Venom was THAT violent in the movie, that would have been great.

Well it wasn't targeted at you at all. I'm talking about the whiny/troll fans that do nothing but complain about things they have no clue of.

I think Grace would have been better suited to playing Spider-Man/Peter Parker.

I like Topher Grace as an actor, but Eddie Brock was just not for him IMO.

seriously...three times??? and It was Brock JR. who he was playing...you know...the SKINNY version of eddie?

Skinny or not, Raimi was pretty accurate to the character with some slight changes. It's not Raimi's fault that Venom is a bad character. His popularity is first of all mostly among young kids because he looks cool. He has some good issues in his back, but hadn't he looked cool, he wouldn't be as popular at all. Same thing about Carnage. But I'm not blaming the kids for that, it's usual in their age to prefer those cool looking characters rather than the ones with more interesting stories etc.

The Ultimate Universe is really the exception in this case. In all other media, including 616, Eddie Brock is built like a jock.

The problem with Venom was there wasn't enough development for Brock. He was just an annoying prick who got angry with Parker because he cost him his job.

If we were shown that Brock had a terrible childhood or family life or just a ****** life in general, like Arad said before the film came out, Brock would of been a better character, thusly making Venom a better character.

Wasn't Brock always an annoying prick who hated Spider-Man for costing him his job?

Yea but there is more too it than that. He has never been the deepest character, but I remember interviews before SM3 came out where Raimi and Arad were saying Brock in the film would have exactly the opposite life to Peter. Coming from a broken home, never had a role model like Uncle Ben and that he would resent Parker. But we got none of that. They basically flat out lied about it.

I knew the instant I first heard Avi Arad's voice and speech patterns that he was a liar, so :oldrazz:

I blame the producers.
Eddie Brock should've never been skinny and young guy, but rather older and muscular guy.
A guy who looks like he can beat up Peter Parker anytime.
I'm just hoping they cast the right guy for it on Venom movie.
