Guardians of the Galaxy Hooked on a Soundtrack: The GOTG Playlist

Man i just LOVE the song choices in this movie. You know, sometimes a great score or a great collection of licensed songs can really make a movie. One of my favorite all time movies is Quentin Tarantino's Jackie Brown, and more than half the reason i love it so much is the beautiful song choices he chose for key moments in the film. Guardians is no different, from opening with "I'm not in love" to ending with "Aint no mountain high enough" you really got the feel that this was a different kind of Marvel film.

I'm a 90's kid but i have such a fond love and appreciation for 70's soul and classic rock. I REALLY hope they continue this theme in the next movie.

That's why there's Awesome Mix Vol. 2!

I was expecting Spirit in the Sky to feature in the movie after it featured in the trailers. However, it only seems to be trailer music. I was slightly disappointed by that.

Does anyone know the song playing when [BLACKOUT]we first meet adult Peter Quill when he's walking/dancing through the cave?[/BLACKOUT]

Redbone – "Come and Get Your Love".

For me, the music moment I keep on coming back to is the chorus of "Moonage Daydream" hitting just as the Milano draws into Knowhere. This awe-inspiring, vast image on the 3D IMAX screen paired with a song I have a deep fondness for just made for pure, joyful cinema.

YES, my favorite music moment as well. I mean, it helps that I'm a Bowie fan, but that was the perfect marriage of song and imagery, imo.

So it's been about a week since I got this, and about a week of blasting it constantly on my iPhone. What's so freaking awesome is that it's like watching the movie over and over again in my ears. It's the best soundtrack I've listened to in a while.

I think I like all the songs in this album after listening to it for a week, but right now my absolutely favorites are Come And Get Your Love, Go All The Way, and Hooked On A Feeling.

Me too.But I'm guessing having a song in the movie that says "I've got a friend named Jesus" would be deemed "controversial" these days.

^^^I doubt that's the case, since it's a well-known and heavily used song already. Gunn might have intended to use it in a scene that ultimately didn't get included or something. Could've been replaced by a song that suited a scene better, too. Either way, I don't know where I would have wanted to hear it in the movie as is, because I think the music selections were already top-notch.

There's something about that scene, this song paired with these far out visuals that gives me major Heavy Metal vibes.

The use of music is so brilliant, I first of all did not expect the movie to open the way it did, right away, it tells you everything about how unique & special this is compared to other MCU movies & my god Come And Get Your Love as Peter is bobbing his head & starts dancing, I was losing it & the integration of the title: brilliant.

Cherry Bomb was the best use of the 70s music I feel lol.

My favorite piece in both soundtracks though, is "Sanctuary." I think you can guess why.

;)

You know what would be awesome? If Rockey Raccoon by The Beatles is in Awesome Mix, Vol. 2.

Oh, and question: When does Fooled Around and Fell In Love play?

That song plays on Knowhere when Peter and Gamora are out together on the balcony listening to his Walkman ("Pelvic sorcery" scene).

The use of all the music in the film was all done so well and I've got to say that while I had a smile on my face during a lot of this movie, I had the biggest grin on my face in the end when Jackson 5's I Want You Back started playing as Star-Lord started talking about their next adventure and they took off. My avatar probably gives me away as well :hehe:

It was so unexpected (even though the opening intro was as well :funny:) in a way but so perfect :) Such a terrific way to end a movie (along with Baby Groot)

I'm betting that one of the reasons that "Hooked on a Feeling" was probably not played at the end of the movie was that Marvel and Gunn didn't want dancing Groot to look like a copy of the dancing baby, since "Hooked on a Feeling" was associated with that. They wanted something more original, plus "I want you back" worked well with that scene.

"Ain't No Mountain High Enough" was perfectly used to begin the course for the next adventure of our galactic group!

Redbone – "Come and Get Your Love".

My favorite music scene of the movie. It set the tone of the movie right then and there.

I found the actual Tyler Bates score to be somewhat generic. The real musical throughline of the film are the songs from "Awesome Mixtape Vol. 1", which not only establish a tone for the movie but sets up character for Quill and an emotional arc. The music is a representation of Peter's mother as a constant presence throughout the story.

There is a song that barely is played when Quill goes back into the prison to retrieve his walkman and the alien is listening to a song. I can't get that earwig out of my head for all of the 4 seconds but its not enough for me to identify what or who sang it. Anybody help me out? thanks
