I know there's many different people with many different views on this - I have known people who have formed relationships with co-workers that worked out rather well. My best friend, for instance, found his first real girlfriend at one of his old jobs. The -only- reason why they didn't stay together was because she ended up moving away, but had she stayed, they probably would have lasted for awhile.

Also, the company I am working with now, I have heard of LOTS of different instances of co-workers getting together - managers with their employees, employees of the same status, and those relationships have worked rather well.

I also know people who have formed relationships that didn't quite work out. A good friend of mine got with this guy who was her manager at the time (this was well before I ever even met her), and they have a daughter together, but the relationship itself didn't go anywhere.

Then there's people who are completely against it, because of the complications that come with working with a co-worker, especially if one of the people is in a position of authority in the workplace over the other.

I have personally never dated anyone that I work with, but that's just usually because the girls I've worked with that I have been interested in, haven't had the same interest in me. I don't see a problem with it. I mean, I understand the complications that could arise, but also, I don't think that where you 2 meet should be a deterent to happiness if the 2 of you actually have that chemistry.

It is a topic of interest right now, because where I am working right now, there has been this girl that's been coming into my store a couple times, and I've been the one there to help her. We've had some conversation and stuff, and she seems really approachable. I am going to be changing jobs here soon - I start my new Hot Topic job on Monday, and Friday is the last day of my current job - and I just found out today that this girl who's been coming into my store is an employee where I am going to be starting here this upcoming week.

Not neccesarily looking for advice, as I think this is a situation that I think I'll be able to handle on my own (despite my postings in the "nice guys are doormats for women" thread, I -do- know how to approach women, I just don't have any luck with them), although I will be going in as management, and I think being a manager in the workplace does throw a bit of a monkey wrench into the equation.

But rather, I'm just interested in sparking discussion and seeing what people's views are on romantic relationships in the workplace. And who knows, maybe I still will find a couple pointers along the way :)

Duuuude. Quit with the long posts. I don't have time to read that.

Sorry, that's what happens when you're an English major

:oldrazz:

(besides, the post isn't even -that- long)

Been there, done that, had fun, in the supply closet, everywhere we could, she quit, life went on.

Could make things messy around the workplace. But ya only live once.

way too long to read, if its a part time job, its ****, if not, back out slowly.

f**k her then press sexual harrassment charges.

DON'T DO IT!! It's too awkward, puts a strain on the relationship and you'll feel like quitting, what would otherwise be a perfectly good job, after you've broken up. I don't mean to sound like a pessimist, but these things just never work out.

HOWEVER, if you feel deeply in love with a co-worker to such a point that you'd be willing to leave your job for them, well then that would solve all your problems. But then, you probably didn't like your job very much in the first place.

I can't speak from personal experience, but all I know is I've seen three and a half relationships crash and burn this way, each one quicker than the last, and it just never works out. Some witch doctor put a voodoo curse on intimate co-worker relationships a thousand years ago or something.

Nell...YOU WORK AT HOT TOPIC!!! I'm sorry, I just never would have guessed. Oh btw, I wouldn't suggest hooking up with a HT fellow employee.

You might make each other happy...:snort:

I'm sorry, again. I couldn't resist.

go for it.

just make her sign a consent form first, or tell a bunch of her co-workers about the two of you, so she can't get you for being a sexual Harris, should things go south.

If it happens, it happens. But generally, not something I would do.

I did it once with my manager and when I didn't call her enough she got pissed and cut my hours. No joke.
We also had a huge screaming/yelling fight in front of the whole staff one day.
I'd never do it again.

Ask jaguarr about the psycho he hooked up with at work.

Just kill her and dump her in the river after, and everything'll be fine.

We have several teachers that have dated and later married....those have been no problem...

Those that date, and break up.....there have been problems in this area if they are part of the same department. Usually one ends up leaving and that is taken care of...

We once had a teacher that stole the husband of another teacher, that was interesting drama.....neither work at my school anymore...

I met my current girlfriend over 6 years ago at our mutual place of employment at the time. We moved in together about 2 years ago and have just bought a new house together. Whether that can be considered a hook up or not, you be the judge.

Do it and her before she hears some music that makes he cut herself. [/hot topic stereotype]

I never would have guessed that I'd be working at Hot Topic (Nell2ThaIzzay is a Hip Hop guy, not a rock / goth guy)

But, I hate my job where I'm at now, and I got an offer from them that's better than what I got now. Job-wise, it's better for me.

how to get away with sexual harassment :woot:
