House of Lies, written and executive produced by Matthew Carnahan, was based on the tell-all book House of Lies: How Management Consultants Steal Your Watch and Tell You the Time by Martin Kihn. Cheadle stars as Marty, a highly successful and cutthroat consultant who is never above using any means (or anyone) necessary to get his way with and for his clients. Bell plasy Jeannie Van Der Hooven, a razor-sharp Ivy League graduate who works at Marty’s firm. Co-stars include comedian Ben Schwartz and Josh Lawson as well as Dawn Oliveri, Glynn Turman and Donis Leonard Jr. Also executive producing are Jessika Borsiczky and Stephen Hopkins, who directed the pilot.

Cheadle, Bell and Jean Ralphio?! I approve.

Watched the trailer, and it looks awesome. Feels a bit like a modern Mad Men.

Looks good, but Cheadle breaks the fourth wall about 4 or 5 times in this spot alone. Makes me wonder if its going to have that self aware humor.

Yeah I liked the Pilot for this show too. I didn't think I was going to like as much as I did. Showtime has a great line-up with this show Californication and Shameless.

I hate that talking to the audience stuff. It's okay, but there's no filler there. No one seems to have chemistry with each other.

That's probably because the pilot was focused pretty much solely on Cheadle. But, from what we saw of them together, I thought he and Bell had great chemistry.

Caught this earlier, it's a pretty wild show. Cheadle kind of reminds me of Zack Morris, if you see the show you'll know why.

Just watched this pilot, and I thought it was good, not great. But it definitely has potential, imo, so I'll keep watching. And I do think the cast has chemistry.

Yeah, it seems very similar to Californication. I liked the pilot and Jean Ralphio and Kristen Bell are enough to keep me watching.

She wasn't given much to do in the pilot other than be snarky, which comes as naturally as breathing to her, so she did well. Hopefully she'll be given more to do in later episodes, though.

Also, she's had great guest appearances in more adult-oriented cable fare like this before - Deadwood, The Shield, Party Down, etc. So it's not exactly her first time at the rodeo.

I tried watching it. I'll give it one more episode because I like Cheadle and Bell both. But despite some awesome style....there's just not much else there. None of the characters are likable, but that would be fine if their world was interesting to explore. It's kind of meant to be a shallow wish fulfillment similar to Entourage in many ways. But the thing is, I don't believe these characters. I don't believe this guy would both be loving to his transgender son while banging his teacher during the show. I don't believe them and I'm left watching a show about greedy people helping billionaires hide money and outsource jobs. I'm supposed to think "That's so cool," but I'm just not digging it.

I'll give it one more episode.
