How big/strong do you think Greek/Roman warriors were

It dawned on me while watching 300 that historically the warriors of ancient times probably were not all that huge and cut. Without the benefit of weight training and proper diet only those with superior genetics would become very strong.

How much do you think they could bench? Squat? Cling?

Do you even think the movie physique was anywhere near accurate, or do you like me picture them as smaller with more developed slow twitch muscle fibers...and possibly not all that cut.

well back then they did alot of physical labor so I imagine alot were strong, sort of like farmers

Probably close to something like that. Abraham Lincoln was supposedly remarkably strong for his time because of his farm work.

The size of people only 100 years ago is documented to be shockingly smaller than the average size of people today.
So I'd guess that the real warriors looked like, a colossaly huge leprechaun, perhaps.

Who gives a flying crap?

This. Is. SPARTAAAAAAAAAAA!!!1

I bet they were all 300 pounds of sheer muscle. And there were these persian guys with blades for arms and 10 feet tall too. :o

I'd figured they'd be shorter.

The greeks/romans were not the muscled bad ass's like the 300. They just didnt have the knowledge of dieting or of the human body to become that way. I would imagine that alot of them would have been like titus pullo from rome. Big and strong but not cut like a body builder.

From what I've read, they did a lot of calisthenics back then, so I imagine they're pretty ripped.

There's a book out about a guy who's almost as big as guys like Ronnie Coleman who never lifted a weight in his life.

It's definitely possible that they were that ripped.

In the vein of noting the exaggerations of 300, I read an interview with FM and he said that the well thing actually did happen, but pointed out that the well was not that deep in real life.

They werent body builders size but my hunch would be to look at old footage of Ali in his prime for a guess on where they were size wise. Spartan diet> any diet we have now.

lol what a paradox

I highly doubt they were very bulky...think about the diet back then and forms of exercise, etc. I'm sure they were muscular, but very lean.
