Comics How come nobody complains about Captain Marvel or Lobo?

How many times...how many years go by, in which people refer to Superman being too powerful. For being unbeatable, and thus boring. I can plea guilty to being one of thoses masses. But there s the line drawn between objective criticism and whining. After taking some time to be more open minded in regards to most things, I have come to the concluson that much of the complaing regarding Superman, is largely unwaranted. There are an equal number of charactrs from both DC and Marvel (let alone other comic universes) that posess nearly the same or greater power than Superman. Yet, nobody complains.

Silver Sufer, Thanos, Captain Marvel, Lobo, Darkseid...the list can get long quickly, in regards to the number of characters that wield unholy amounts of power. The Silver Surfer controls matter at a molecular level, and can thus create or destroy anything he so desires. Thanos once wielded a gaunlet that allowed him to destroy every super being on earth. Captain Marvel is effectively Superman's superior, for the sheer fact that his powers are magically rooted (and thus do more damage to Superman, as proven during Infinite Crisis in which Captain Marvel used transformation as a means of besting Superman in combat). Despite the existence of these awesome beings, it is never mentioned when people opt to complain of Superman's powers. I for one, want to know why people are so jaded/one sided on the matter.

Must be because Superman's recognition outside of comic book-land far exceeds that of all the characters you just mentioned. In other words - it is an anti-Superman conspiracy.

No one's one sided. Superman fights primairily Earth based threats. Thus, having him being able to move around planets and sneeze galaxies out of existence doesn't work. Captain Marvel, as far as I can remember, hasn't been shown to preform such feats in a long time. And Billy knocking Clark out with his lightning doesn't mean he;s his superior. It just means he has a power that Clark doesn't. Silver Surfer, on the other hand, deals with primairily cosmic threats. Demons, elder gods, stuff like that. Darkseid was origionally intended to be capable of posing a threat to the entire DCU, not just Superman, so really, he needs a power boost more than anything else. Thanos did once weild the Infinity Gauntlet, but that power isn't inherent within him and his use of it was the basis of the story. WIthout it, he's still probably more powerful than Superman, but like with Darkseid, Thanos is meant to be a major scale threat. Not someone Thor could beat on his own. And Lobo is meant to be a parody of 90s ultra badasses. His immortality and insane strength are apart of that.

wait so is lobo stronger then superman?

Maybe it's because Superman is more human than these others despite technically being an alien? I don't know. As far as Lobo goes, he's a humerous character so it's fun that he can't die and is insanely strong.

Lobo isn't stronger than Superman, but his strength is up there enough, to where he can go toe to toe with Superman. And even if not, Lobo is immortal and has the abiliy to self replicate as well as heal at hyper rates. Lobo is just ridiculously powerful.

And he's a comedic character. His ridiculous power levels are a part of the joke.

People focus their b****ing on Superman because he's the biggest target. Too bad they're so amazingly wrong.

I really don't think that's it. My main problem with Superman being that powerful is that if he's fighting Earthly crime and other such threats, he really shouldn't be facing any challange.

Sure he should, if the writers do what they're supposed to and get creative.

Sorry, but I just don't see how it works. If he can move planets and move at the speed of light, I can't imagine any Earthly threats bothering him. Now, if his focused was shifted more towards cosmic level threats, that would be fine. But otherwise, I prefer his power levels to be comperable to the threat levels he deals with.

Good thing you don't write comics, then, huh?

Then how about you give us an example? If he can move faster than the speed of light, and push entire celestial bodies, please, for the love of god tell me how anything on this earth would pose any kind of challenge to him, BESIDES using kryptonite.

The OMACs. Created by humans.

Did you not read read any Superman before Infinite Crisis?

It didn't look to me like they had to.

And that question wasn't to you, it was to whom I was responding to.

If they did, then an army of them that large should have layed waste to the entire planet in minutes.

Okay. But they didn't. And laying waste to a planet is moot: that wasn't their design.

so superman should fight Omacs every issue?

Why would you want Superman to fight OMACs every issue?

Still, if each one of them was that strong and there was five million of them, there's no way they should have faced any sort of oposition. Sorry, but it makes no sense.

You know, I pity you. Reading comics where guys are flying around must be Hell for you.

Why? Because I want writers to follow some form of internal logic and consistancy when writing?

No.
