Everyone here could talk for hours about the things that the Fantastic Four movies got wrong, but the consensus is that the onscreen depiction of Silver Surfer was nearly perfect.

However, since there won't be any further sequels to that series (and in all likelyhood, no SS spinoff anytime soon), we might not see the Surfer again until the [inevitable] FF reboot.

Whenever we see him again, what could possibly be done to make the character's next onscreen appearance even better?

I'd like to get some scifi/space based comic book movies. Set the landscape for Galactus, Inhumans, Skrulls, Kree etc. We can get some real cool visuals and maybe get some Kirby tech as well.

Flame decals. They worked for Optimus Prime. :woot:

All kidding aside, I think that a cosmic scope would help get his character across.

Im all for a silver surfer movie and heres my poster for it

in terms of what to shoot for if he ever appears again in film:

I would focus more on the sci fi, then the superhero aspect of his character.

The film would definitly need a visonary director like Aronfoski or Snyder

I would focus on his origin and his "freedom"

For one, they need to get rid of 'his board is the source of his power' ********, as that just limits and ruins the character for me. Dont have his board be his power source, have it be the power cosmic just like in the comics. That really pissed me off to no end in the movie.

Dump the board is the power source idea, not make him able to defeat Galactus under any circumstances, perhaps make him not remember Zenn-La at all (ala the cartoon). Really about it. SS wasn't that screwed up in the FF film. Mostly it was Galactus who got the shaft.

'Silver Surfer' needs to be a broad, larger than life, cosmically epic film in the artistic vein of "Alien," "Star Wars" and "2001: A Space Odyssey."

Breathtaking and sweeping visuals through star-filled galaxies and planets unlike anything we've seen before.

Beginning with Noran Radd's sacrifice to save his world and his love by striking a deal with Galactus...only to betray him and vow to conquer his malicious hunger by destroying his empire of disciples (a liberty I would take in order to get other foes into the mix).

With the power cosmic at his disposal, Radd would fight the forces of evil that threaten the universe:

Thanos
Kree
The Skrulls
The Inhumans

And eventually, the Silver Surfer would join forces with the likes of the Beyonder and the Watcher in order to warn Earth's heroes of Galactus' arrival...leading to the largest battle in Comic Book Movie History.

------

The potential is all there...it's up to prospective filmmakers to identify that potential and utilize it.

How could the Silver Surfer be improved on film?
not being written by Zak Penn and directed by Tim Story would be a good start

I don't think FF2 was Zak Penn.

It wasn't..."FF2" was written by Don Payne and Mark Frost, from a story by John Turman and Mark Frost.

I read an idea for a trilogy on another board i frequent.

The origin movie would focus on Norrin Radd and how he is on the verge of becoming a leader type figure on Zenn-La, but he is very unsure of himself as a leader and not ready for it. One of the elder figures comes to him and talks him up, throwing in the line "every cloud has a silver lining". Norrin starts to have nightmares about Zenn-La gettin attacked by some unknown force and he feels powerless to stop it. It ends with him sacrificing himself to save Zenn-La as Galactus turns him into the surfer.

I cant remember the sequel ideas off hand but i think the third movie involved Galactus dying and the surfer being the only one that could save him. He ended up doing at and returning to Zenn-La and re-united with Shalla-Bal.

I'll try and find a link to it.

Make Galactus a world-eating giant and not some storm front.

If James Cameron's Avatar is successful then I'd like a Silver Surfer film to be filmed using Cameron's stereoscopic technology.

I had an idea for a Surfer movie that takes place after the origin film. I had an idea of how to redo his appearance on Earth also, if we still wanted to tie him to the FF.

I agree that they got the Surfer ALMOST perfect - visually. I would do two thing to him, remove those damn ears and change his eyes to the way Kirby drew them - a little less human and burning with cosmic energy.

Since Stan screwed up his origin with that Zen-La crap, I guess that would have to be included, but in a perfect world it would be ignored. If they do do the Norin Rad stuff, make it a little as possible, with him becoming the Surfer at the end of the first act at the latest. After that it's off for a cosmic adventure that could end with his approach to Earth or not [no real rush to tie him into that part of the Marvel Universe.

I should look like the best of the STAR WARS movies!

I like the Zenn-La story and feel it does not ruin the Surfer character like Kirby fans believe, and I love Kirby as much as the next guy.

I prefer the Zenn-La part as well, b*tching Kirby purists be damned(no offense). It adds a whole other dimension to the character that would be absent otherwise. W/O it, SS would be a pretty flat character.

need SS movie...now!

Completely agreed. I know what Kirby was going for in the Surfer character, but that added sadness and contradiction added to the Surfer by the Zenn-La story I feel to be essential to him by this point.

I have to agree with those above and say that the board hould not be the source of his power. Plus galactus should be a conscious entity that cannot be defeated by his own herald.

Agreed. It makes no sense that Galactus would make a servant who could best him in any realm of logic. The Surfer has but a millionth of Galactus' power, and should never be able to hold his own against the Devourer of World's unless he is starving and on the verge of death!

It was me who first posted about the 'board is his power' thing on here first, but your 2nd point I highly agree with also.

Agreed, Surfer cant even take Thanos let alone Galactus.
