seeing as Raimi has made such a mess of things wouldnt it make more sense to reverse things and have MJ killed instead by the villain of SM4
that way you get the fact that Pete is really hurt by this and GW becomes the girl in his life or a conflict between her and Black Cat.

Eddie Brock comes back from the "dead" and takes his revenge on Spider-Man by killing his then girlfriend, Gwen Stacy.

Think about it, he's delusional and thinks he dated her, and he wanted to get rid of Peter's "girl" in part 3, why not make Venom's return really scary and make him a bad-ass by having him kill Gwen?

Replace Ultimate Carnage with Venom.

gwen doesn't need to die. there's no reason for it and there really wouldnt' be much of an emotional impact from her dieing. if anything, having her be in conners class with peter should be tension enough after part 3. and i'd go as far as to say that her dad should die in the line of duty and she could blame spider-man for it, kinda like ultimate spider-man although i didnt' mean it that way. i dont' know if that would be needed in a part 4 but if they make a 5 and 6 back to back with the sinister 6 like i've posted then i think it would totally work, having mysterio or chameleon frame spider-man and the city be against him for part 5 and then by the end of part 6 he proves to gwen that he didnt' do it and the city loves him again. ie- the sisnister 6 SHOULD be vulture, chameleon, mysterio, rhino, scorpion, and electro...the last fo the great spider-man villains

IMO if they make anymore she shouldn't be in it. They should have never put her in the movie in the first place. all they used her for was a plot device.

i hope in the next trilogy the take mary jane out of the 4th...have her away in cali persuing her acting career...her and peter are still friends but nothing more. during the movie he makes up with gwen and they even begin to date regularly. lizard kills captain stacy...now gwen hates spider-man and loves peter. quite a perdicament . then in the 5th film you introduce the hobgoblin as the villian. at the climax of the film the hobgoblin throughs gwen off of the bridge in a scene that is eerily similar to MJ in sm1. but hobgoblin prevents spidey from saving her. MJ, who was coming home to suprise peter, was on the bidge witnessing the whole thing. qwens death drives peter crazy (no tears!!! just fury!) and peter chases hobgoblin...the fight, and peter accidentely kills him (its done in a way that leaves people wondering just how "accidental" it was). MJ is there to comfort him after gwens death, but he pushes her away. then in the 6th movie you have MJ trying to get peter back (and NOT the other way around)

3 movies without ANY peter chasing MJ subplot, and yet her presence in the films is just as strong as it was in the first trilogy.

Mysterio gets revenge on SPidey... after getting fired from a movie set after Spiderman hilmself replaces Beck's visual effects in an actual movie in the making. Gwen is used as the damsel in distress... in a scene involving a high wire act involving Gwen falling and being rescued by SPidey, Beck's illusions throw off SPidey's timing and vision and he fails to catch Gwen as she falls from a bridge. Gwen dies and Spidey is prosecuted for first degree man slaughter.

There is no reason at this point to kill her. The audience doesn't care enough about her. You'd have to make her a more main character in SM4 to have her death have any real meaning to the audience.

Maybe in a future movie, but in SM4, no.
