Okay....

So I was looking up comic book stores in my area. I found one listed on Superpages that I hadn't been to before. So I decided I'd dive over there today on my way back from town.

I tried the phone number and got the annoying fax tone. So I figured hey, maybe they only have one line and are waiting for a fax... who knows.

I decided it was worth my time to dive 3 miles out of my way to check out this store. So I'm driving down the street and I see 105 and 109. But I don't see the number 107 William Street. There is a little shop between there but I think I see a tu-tu in the window...

So I park the car and get out to cross the street. And mannnnnnn!
The comic book store is NOT there. Just a froofy little pink, purple, tu-tu laden dancewear shop. :cmad:

Let's say that was probably the most depressing thing I have seen all week. Not like it was my favorite comic book store or anything. I mean I hadn't even been there before. But come on!! A comic book store gone and dancewear shop using up some perfectly good retail space.

Not only that........ I really think Superpages needs to update their listing!

So, has this happened to any of you? Your favorite comic book store replaced by a depressing tu-tu shop? Or some place you're looking forward to checking out not being there? Heck, maybe you're favorite family owned restaurant was bought out by a chain restaurant??

I wanna hear your stories. Maybe dwelling on someone else's depressing story will make mine less painful............lol!

That's what you get for looking in the *never-heard-of* Superpages, rather than the standard Yellow. :)

 What do you mean *never-heard-of* superpages

I USED TO look up stuff there online all the time. I guess I'll stick to yellowpages.com from now on. :oldrazz:

Comic Book stores are every where, what I needed yesterday was a DAMN DANCE SHOP! I was out trying to buy my friend a birthday gift before I met her out for dinner and was trying find something dance related because that's her passion.

ROFL you're joking!

I'm one of the unlucky ones.. See the closest city to me is about 20 miles. And, there are only 2 comic book stores there anyway. :csad:

I live in Nowheresville. We don't have comic book shops or dance shops.:csad:

Where I used to live back in the early 90's there were like 6 comic stores in my area...now there was only 1. Since moving to CT, Ive found 2 comic stores...so far.

There's not too many shops here either. I have my one main guy right here in town but if he closes I'm screwed. The next nearest place is almost a half hour away in either direction. :(

One of my favorite shops to go to was located in this beautiful, quaint shopping center. It had this rustic look to it, like you were up in the mountains. One day I showed up and it was replaced with a religious gift store. :( He left a forwarding address for his costumers though and when I finally found the new place, it looked like it was in a self storage unit.

I think the trouble is that with electronic media, printed comics just aren't selling like they used to. The profit margin is less. I think the only way for a comic book seller to do okay is if they diversify, that's why most of them sell cards and DVDs as well. :)

my local comic ship sells toys, magazines, novels, posters,DVD's, toys etc...They just have to to make ends meet and as long as i get my comics i'm pleased. There are 2 comic shops in liverpool actually. i am very lucky:woot:

Aye, my local shop is mostly gaming/cards nowadays, they expanded nextdoor and opened a gaming room. But they're a chain, so they don't have quite the issues of a small shop.

In High School there were 3 comic shops I went to that closed down, there was the one constant shop that stayed open and I think is still open, but it was a dump and the owner was kind of a scumbag, always my last resort when one of the other shops closed down, I'd reluctantly go back there.

I have had dissappointing experiences trying new shops though, I'd see them driving somewhere and decide to check them out, only to find one or two racks of comics and the rest of the shop devoted to those cards games or Heroclix, always some kind of big game going on. Now I've got a few good places to go though, my regular shop in downtown Chicago with all my pulled books and two others in Wrigleyville and Lincoln park (actually an affilate to the downtown shop) that I visit every so often during weekends.
