How did Studio 60 sink to such a crappy state?

The show started with such promise though it was marred by it's self-indulgence and arrogance, what I mean is that it's presentation was sloppy. None of the skits they showed were probably the most unfunny things I've ever seen on TV. They'd have useless cameos such as music artists, etc. THe writing meanader and over-all was sloppy. However the actors were strong enough to prop up the good intentions of hte script. This most likely stemmed from teh fact that the show was seen as infalliable so much so that NBC paid a ridiculous price for it. Now I figured once the rating started shaking, they'd whip it into shape.

What'd they do? They completely obliterated the skits and in it's place amped up the drama, and got rid of the cameos, what this did was make it borderline soap-operish and too serious. There still going over arcs from the beginning of the series, none of the characters have evolved, and every episode feels so repititious that the only reason I keep watching is cuz the actors are so awesome! :( Aaron Sorkin, your better than this, please save what could ben awesome show :(

I never liked the show period, the suppose "all-star" cast does not click. The jokes are never funny, and this is a good example of a show with alot of hype, but bad writing.

I disagree the chemistry is definately there, the writing simply is not up to par...

It's only been about two episodes. Relax.

Nah it's been on a road of suckitude for a while :(

I haven't made an effort to watch the show in the last 2.5 months. Tom's parents visiting or having a writing staff of 4 with 2 only have experience was the last episode I watched. There is no real pull to come back and watch it again. Everything was fine but nothing has really grabbed me like the series premiere. I started watching 30 Rock in late November and really enjoy it when at first I thought it was horrible. 30 Rock has really improved since it has premiere while Studio 60 it seems has turned off plenty of people and is stuck in neutral. The people who watch it are rich and it does okay for DVR but I dunno if NBC will bring the show back. Matt and Danny are only contracted for two seasons so maybe they'll just have the show do that far. Or hope DVD sales make up for the low ratings.

I don't know I thought the John Goodman cameo was really funny, because he was such a pain in the ass to the Studio 60 crew - it made me laugh.

I thought the idea of most of the writing crew leaving the show was interesting, it made wonder how in the world how in the world will they write a one hour show with only basically 3 writers. but it seems Matt writes most of the skits and the two others write one or two skits for the show.

But the latest episodes have been about mostly Danny and Jordan, which I really find uninteresting for some reason.

But the next episode is about how Matt and Harriett first met, so that would be interesting.

It hasn't evolved, I think that's the principal issue... the skits have almost NEVER been funny, (with the exception of moderate laughter from the first two episodes)... because they were never the point... now, they don't even show the punch lines to the skits... heh... they just cut away.

I like Danny and Jordan, I like Darius and... DL Hughley a lot, especially from a white writer, it's impressive. I think Harriett finally ending Matt would be wonderful if it can stick for a while.

But after the writers and John Goodman, the show seemed to stop taking risks... we've revisited the Macow storyline from, basically, the EXACT same angle, which actually works on a sketch comedy show, but not a drama ABOUT a sketch comedy show...

In short, Aaron Sorkin needs to go back and rewatch the first 56 seconds of his show. It's a tirade on brainless TV, and Aaron acting like the "I have to do it all" type of person he may or may not be, is falling into that, on accident I'm sure. Studio 60 is still enjoyable, but it has yet to recapture the awesomeness of it's first 2-4 episodes.

Final Say:
More risks.
Non-Romantic relationships and controversey (Darius and Miles and their race-issues is a good start, Harriett and Danny having beef would make for some nice storyline as well as things not being all well among the supporting comedians would make for some nice sparks to throw in consistently... )
And, most importantly: HIRE A COMEDY WRITER to do the skits... the skits are not the focus, but if they were actually funny, you could get the BEST of BOTH WORLDS... and that would make Stuio 60 THE show to watch...

Still love it. The past two episodes were cliche, but mostly just Matt and Harriet. They're painfully boring, and they're always the focal point. Jack continues to be the baddest ass in the history of the world, and Cal is hilarious.

It seems to me he's sorta forgotten about that the show's about a TV show. It's been FOREVER since we've seen any bit of it.

I'm tired of Matt and Harriet after just 1/2 of a season.
I mean as a couple. They're ok apart.

I watch RAW during this. :csad:
I wanted to get into the show, but I gotta catch my rasslin'.....

i like that they trashed the skits... it saves us from having to sit through painfully unfunny-but-trying-to-be television.

i'm not a big fan of the matt/harriet drama... the writers should call it a day with that one. i really like matt, but the harriet character is just so mary sue. but i love danny/jordan, jack, cal, and pretty much all the others. i thought the thing with simon and darius was absolutely fantastic. tom/lucy is kind of annoying though, like they're trying to shove everyone into a relationship.

If I was Cal, I woulda beat the s*** out of the animal handler guy. Did he even know what he was doing?
Anyway, I like Cal, Jack, Matt, Danny, Jordan and that Jeannie chick (shes hot). Dont particularly care for the others. Maybe Darius.

I have to agree about the skits. I think the only time I laughed was during the To Catch a Predator Santa Claus skit, and thats probably been done before.

Honestly, theres no real draw to the show. Everything initally interesting about the show has been drawn out to the point where there has been literally no evolution in any character. Every character is identical to the way we've seen them since the pilot. Its just sad when a show runs out of steam before it even hits its first finale.

Look at Rescue Me. It can be very funny and very moving. Studio 60 should've been just like that.

The characters are different at the end of the each season. (Their professional and personal lives should gradually change over the course of the season and it seems like Stuido 60 is an old fashioned "everything is back to normal at the end of the episode" shows. Jordan has had the most drama but the other characters are lacking the punch that this show needs.

I was very into Studio 60 at first. The last couple of eps with love triangles and such have slowed things down though.

the love triangles -----> made the show crappy!

To many characters getting together:

Danny/Jordan

Matt/Harriet

Tom/Lucy/Kim

whats next? Jack/Jeannie

the should 86 studio 60 and expand heroes to two hours

I didn't think the skits were that bad. I mean, we only saw two of them in their entirety. The rest we only saw about two seconds of, or saw in rehersal (and in rehersal, even the funniest bits in TV come off as kind of boring).

I think the marketing for the show is worse than the show itself.

Yes, there is an overly strong focus on the Matt/Harriet relationship but the commercials would have you think that's what the entire show is about and it isn't. Potential viewers aren't giving it a shot because they think it's all soapy bull*****.

I like it but I think if NBC wants to keep it they need better ways of promoting it.

Another thing is the relationship isn't like previous "oh I can't wait until they get together" relationships or current ones. I'm not sold on it and I don't think they've roped enough people in wanting them to be a couple.
