Rich Ross, Disney Channel's president, filled the void left for the 9-to-14-year-old "tween" audience with "Lizzie Mcguire," "Hannah Montana," "High School Musical" and the Jonas Brothers.

:o that show was funny and good. Even saw the movie in theaters, then got rid of the dvd. But yeah, Hilary Duff is/was hot.

I might forgive him if he also gave us Christie Carlson Romano.

I don't think it is just "tweens" that watch those shows. I definitely know some high school and college aged people out there who watch those shows.

Basically, the crossover success of Hilary Duff (television AND music) led to the development of this whole tween movement. Duff became the prototype for how to build the perfect tween star: someone who could occupy the film and television market while simultaneously putting out music.

The connection the kids develop for the TV persona, carries over to the albums. Ergo:

- The kids love Hannah Montana, so they love the star, Miley Cyrus.
- They love Miley Cyrus, so they love Miley Cyrus's music.

What Disney has affectively done is created a new version of the classic star system. Instead of pimping their shows, they're pimping the stars IN the shows. If you ever watch Disney Channel, it's incredible how they market their movies and events. They make these teen stars out to be friggin' celestial bodies. When they're not starring in a TV show, they're starring in a movie. When they're not in a movie, they're recording songs for the "Radio Disney Jams Mixtape".

It's insane. But it's also quite genius. You establish a familiarity, and spread the love across all platforms. I want to hate it, because it's so cold and calculated, but I have to admire it.

Nickelodeon has tried to duplicate this formula with its own tween star, Miranda Cosgrove, but her music career hasn’t exactly been taken seriously like Miley’s. What makes this even more ironic is that iCarly is far better than anything on the Disney Channel, save Phineas and Ferb.

This post sums it up. Although Dadnapped was basically The Godfather with better acting (I'm pretty sure FFC directed, so go figure) and I believe Minute Men was a revised Kubrick script. I'd also venture to say that Radio Disney Jams, Vol. 7 is our generation's Sgt. Pepper.

Miley Cyrus' music career is taken seriously?

Millions of kids across the country flock to see Miley Cyrus in concert. You may not care for her, but Miley and her management don't give a crap what you think. You're not a 12 year old little girl who can beg her parents for stuff.

And now Cartoon Network is going to kill it's channel by copying this disgusting formula.

I imagine a lot of pedophiles and would be pedophiles watch those garbage shows as well. It's truly sickening and exploitative.

From the look of things, Cartoon Network might be taking a cheaper, more "reality TV" approach to killing their cartoons. Between that show about dumping kids in the woods and the one about dumping kids in haunted houses, the only scripted live action thing I can find on that channel are those terrible Ben 10 movies.

Compared to those stupid reality shows, the Ben 10 movies are Citizen Kane.

Lol you serious? No way Godfather won ton of oscars what has Dadnapped won? Nothing! But Disney do know how to make nobodies out of soembodies.

You can pretty much say Disney the new WWE. They know how to make losers into winners.Maybe Vince in WWE should try this formula so people can give a crap about his buisness again.

But anyways mostof them disney channell kids will be forgotten in a few years. They just teen idols. Teen idols do not stay on top forever and everyone forgets about them. I mean who still talks about Kirk Cameron, or Zack from Saved by the bell. Or Steve Urkel. No one. They wasj ust a spur of the moment.

For instance, Hannah Montana, when the dust is all settled, will be (I strongly believe) regarded as purely a late 2000s fad. On the contrary, Donald Duck has been around for at least, 60 years. Donald Duck is something that can be timeless because since he's a cartoon character, he can't age (thus, it's far easier to make him a mascot). Miley Cyrus and her fans, are going to get older and ultimately, must outgrow the Hannah Montana image. As a matter of fact, when you tune into the Disney Channel these days, you see Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez or Demi Lovato (or the Jonas Bros. for that matter) more often than Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy, Pluto, etc.

Yeah but you said dadnapped better then godfather acting wise.

Seriously. I hate the shows Disney aires, but my daughter loves them. I try to steer her toward iCarly, since it's one of the only shows of that genre I can stand. In fact, it is quite witty in its writing.

Much better and funnier than anything Disney puts out.

All disney channell shows better then nick. They funnier and also get better ratings and more money. Now back in the 90s Nick had better shows then Disney channell. But its the other way around now. But Nick needs to stop copyingo ff of Disney and do their own thang.

Now Cartoon Network trying to copy that formual and that will be an epic failure and i mean seriously it will be an epic failure. But i'm not even gonna lie if i was contacted by dinsey to work their andh ave my own show and be a muscian were i rap of course do not sing and i be like Jonas Bros and Hannah Montana muscian wise i be cool. I get my tons of money.
