How do you feel about the family friendly-ness of the Hype?

In other words, its not quite so family friendly. Or work friendly.

Once again, I'm seeing this naked japanese chick on the banner. I used to use the internet quite alot in a kitchen where my 10 year old neice could quite often see what I was doing. Not to mention the rest of my family. I'm sure there are other people that use the Hype in easy sight of other people in their household.

Plus, I am sure there are alot of younger people that use the hype. I doubt 12 year old girls appreciate the smut of the banners. In fact, I doubt many of the girls appreciate it.

And its not just the banners, its the avitars too. Jiggiling boobs that verge on pornography, and the mods seem to let it fly.

This thread is for discussion. I'd appreciate it if the mods would leave it open so we can get an idea of what people think of the banners and what not.

The banners, I've never actually noticed. The one on my page right now is about "The Last Days of Krypton" and "Ghost Rider collection".

I do agree on the avatars however. People are taking it a little too far. This is the same site however, where someone posted a completely nude picture of a very obese man with his full body painted like a Spider-Man costume and was upset that it was deleted because it didn't fall under the official description of pornography (ie. to cause sexual arousal).

As for the avvy's the rule of nudity and pornography are quite clear, if it can be seen any time of the day in an MTV video then it's not porn.

This is not a G-Rated site. It is a best Pg-13. The facts are simple. The Mods have NO ABILITY WHATSOEVER (that is in bold so you pay attention) to remove banner ads, none whatsoever, 100% not. Understand? We CANNOT do it. I, myself, see no banner ads containing naked women, though I consistently get asinine Staples ads.

Also, our responsibility is NOT to police your children, that belongs to you or whatever adults you have put in charge. We have banned pornography as defined as pictures or video of female nipples, simulated or real depictions of sex acts (to the degree that several instances of animal on animal copulation have resulted in probations) and male or female genitalia. Bikini clad women, speed-o wearing men, these are accepible under the guide lines of the site, no matter how distasteful you or others might feel they are. As long as they adhere to the rules of the site, they are allowed and even then we attempt to confine them to ONE thread that you are not required to open.

As for talks about sex, well, as long as it doesn't read like a "Dear Penthouse" letter, there is really nothing wrong with it, is there? If you find the topic has gotten out of hand, all you have to do is alert us.

Now, I am just waiting for one of you to start screaming "Hypocrisy! You let so and so talk about sex, and you deleted my topic on such and such!"

Remember, there are different standards of what is and isn't vulgar, and the mods and admins are only human. We react to complaints from posters if we ourselves don't catch the offenses, which happens, this is a big site and we are a small group. But more that once I have delete a topic that I myself found fine, but several complaints were logged against, so YOU THE POSTERS of this site have a responsibility as well. If you don't tell us your problems, we certainly can't figure them out. As much as we'd like to be, telepathic abilities did not come with the ban button.

All I've ever heard is that the ownership wants it to be a PG-13 environment.
PG-13 does not equal "family friendly".
G-Rated = "family friendly"

I have never seen anyone in a position of authority here admonish someone for breaking out of the boundaries of a "G Rating".

None of the avatars I've seen are crossing any sort of line. There is nothing wrong with the human body. If your niece is close enough to even see what the avatars are, and deranged enough to be adversely influenced by seeing a full-figured woman WALKING, or DANCING, you have WAY bigger problems than the family-friendliness of the Hype.


As for the ads, that's your fault. I see no ads.

Wonder how much this site costs to run compared to how much money the ads bring in..I know a smaller forum I used to go to was something like either 3k a year or 3k a month and the adds only brought in like 1.5k a year or month, whicever the dividend was.

The only time I see banners is when I go to this site at work. At home, I don't see any.

But in the last thread that kainedamo made, the banner that he posted had a chick wearing a bikini. And last time I checked, wearing something means that the person isn't nekkid.

And I agree with Dew. This website isn't responsible for raising your children or your niece. If you're afraid of what your neice could see while you use the internet, don't use it in the kitchen.
