Ok so we've all seen the reports from TV line "According to some fresh casting intel, the show is seeking a 13-year-old actor with “future leading man looks” to play the potentially recurring role of Kal-El, aka the future MoS.

Lil’ Supes will first appear in this season’s 13th episode via a string of flashbacks that will establish the cherished bond between him and Kara."

However we know that Clark was 24 (at least I think he was) when Kara arrived on Earth as a teenager and he himself was rocketed from Krypton as a boy. So how could this work given the timelines don't quite gel together? Let's look at some ways this could work:

Retcon

Could it be a retcon? So soon? If it is I think I would be pretty annoyed as retcons are used when a show needs to force something. This way though they could have them both be teenagers on Krypton. However if it's supposed to work on Earth I'm not sure how. Unless they say he was Superboy when he discovers Kara?

Time Travel

Could it be possible that Kara time travels in an episode or 2? The only thing negating this possibility is the call says it's a recurring role according to the report. However what's to stop it been a recurring role after time travel? Say she goes back and meets a 13 year old Clark then there after when she has returned to the present day storyline we continue with flashbacks to Clark growing up in Smallville.

Or in this univser was Kal El Superboy before he was Superman? Maybe Superboy is the one who time travels?

It's not Kal

Maybe it's not Kal, the report could e wrong or they could just be using the 'Young Superman' as a casting role that is actually for a different character. Maybe say Kon El aka Superboy, as Superman's clone this would make a lot of sense as he'd look just like him. Or could it be an evil clone or an evil duplicate of some sort who tricks Kara?

My preferred choice would be Kon El but I'm unsure if he is going to be used on Titans (if it ever happens).

Something happens to Superman

Maybe it's magic? Maybe it's some weird version of Kryptonite. What if something happens to Superman that turns him into a boy for the rest of the season. Then come the finale he is restored to his normal self? This to me is one of the more likely options given the timeline.

They don't actually meet

Maybe the 'bond' they speak of is metaphorical. Maybe we will see Kara going through things in present day that we see Kal going through in flashbacks. It doesn't quite work with what's been reported but it makes sense with the timeline.

There are many more possibilities of course. What do you think is most likely?

you may be right with your Superboy time travel theory but won't he be two places at once ? even for THEM that's impossible

Yup which is why I find that one unlikely.

Time travel? Some kind of weird Kryptonian technology? Mama Danvers reminiscing about meeting a teenage Clark after the Kents reached out to the Danvers for help dealing with Clark's powers?

I don't know? At the moment, including a teenage Clark seems unnecessary and will potentially only further distract from Kara's story. But, I like what they've been doing so far and I'm hopeful that it will not only make sense, but also be interesting viewing.

I doubt they be retcon anything or changing things or what not. The easiest way this could play out. Is we the viewers get flash backs on young clark life. Probably as told by Jimmy to kara. As we know this jimmy knows all about clark.

TVLine is generally very good about being upfront and crystal-clear in their reporting, so if they say he's going to show up in flashbacks that will show how he and Kara bond, that's what's going to happen, even if we as the audience can't figure out how they're going to make it work.

I actually think it could be the last one where they don't actually meet.

The flashbacks could be the Danvers helping Clark figure out his powers and the problems that come up with that. They then show Kara going through the same issues and that is how they "bond" through the same experiences.

Starting to think that the powers that be wanted this to vague so that we would speculate.

There is always the possibility however slight, that the info got out before they were ready to announce it

flashbacks involving Dr. Danvers does seem the most likely. the Danvers were personally picked by Clark to take in and raise Kara. Jeremiah said he knew everything about superman, so, its implied that they knew each other and/or worked together before.

but that seems more like it'd just be a subplot not a recurring regular role

Think it went something like this

CBS: Can we use Superman other than showing just his shoulder?
WB: No.
CBS: How about when he is young like you allowed FOX to do with Gotham and Bruce Wayne
WB: Ya, fine.

Berlanti: But we established that Kara doesn't come to earth until he is already Superman. So how can we do a flashback to establish the bond between Clark and Kara if we can't use adult Clark?
CBS: uh that's for you to figure out.

I still feel if we see young clark a hand full of times they have to have rights to use adult clark. Cause wouldn't that all still be covered in red tape concerns and all.

No because Gotham can use young Bruce Wayne. It's the same as Smallville was allowed to carry on when Superman Returns came out because it was a prequel show. If it's stuff before he's Superman it's probably allowed.

It's still crap reasons as I said before more so with their whole statement that tv and films are separate so they can do what ever they want. But then some what back tracking on that with squad and deadshot off arrow. And I recall hearing for gotham and I don't know if true the show runners have full access to anything in the batman world to do as they please. So really the shows now should be able to do what they want. The whole red tape crap is bs reasoning.

I completely agree, I really would love to be wrong but we know what WBs is like. They feel the need to 'protect' certain characters and regarding whether or not they have licenses WBs/DC still have to approve things. So in essence they're still in the same boat they always have been cause things need to be approved.

Here is the thing about ALL OF THIS. We are going by a hastily written, SHORT article that has simply been repeated by other CB news outlets.

At this point, we have no clue how a young Superman is going to be used. They are various ways that it could happen.

I DO NOT, see them going against what they have already established, as in Kara came to earth at 13, and Superman was already an established Superhero at 24...I don't see them rewriting history in the show just to make this work.

I'm also not sure that what was meant by the "bond building" isn't..."WHAT THEY HAVE NOW" but more "WHAT THEY WILL BUILD" through this connection that is made.

At this point, who knows...we know for sure that it is a YOUNG Superman, but other than that...that is all we really know for sure.

Ya it just sucks with all the crap on red tape. When wb owns and controls all the dc stuff. That is why I always feel wb and dc are run by guys with their heads up there you know. And have no clue what they are doing.

As for the topic at hand. Either it will be flashbacks with Mr and mrs. Danvers we viewers see. And mrs. Danvers tells kara about. Or its jimmy telling her about clark past in relation to kara having issues or something.

I think now more than ever there is a strategy in place and WBs is doing much better. I actually think had they made JL Mortal back in the day that they would have reaped the benefits sooner than they are.

Yeah I think that Danvers is most likely with the stories running parallel to one another when the situation fits.

I'm not really sure how that builds a relationship between the two? Seems to me they would have to interact together to build any kind of relationship.

But, hey, as far as we know...you could be totally correct.

That's the thing it said something about a bond between the two. So unless it's metaphorical with their stories matching I don't see how it's gonna work. I truly would love for it to end up been Kon El but given what's been said that seems unlikely.

maybe the will flipflop tradition and have the young Superman be supergirl's secret weapon

Gotbam can use whatever and whoever they want whenever and however they want. If they wanted to, the show's producers could turn the series into a show about an adult Batmantomorrow, and WB and DC couldn't stop them.

No, they can't.
