To Me Dbz Will Always Be My Favorite Anime
And I Think It Is The Best But Almost Everybody I Know That Is A Real Big Anime Fan Will Disagree With Me So Lets Talk About It Here

I kinda hate it when people put it in their top five anime lists...

dragonball i could understand but not z and gt.

It's probably as low a grade of anime as you can get with scenes pinning together random fights that taken 2 minutes in their world but 14 eps in real time to finish.

It's probably better inthe manga form though. I understand it was a big movement and played a decent sized role in mainstreaming manga to the masses but still....observing it without the nostalgia and it's kinda poor.

My favorite is Naruto...I do love Dragonball and DBZ but I just think Naruto is a tad better...I know there wouldnt be any Naruto without DB and DBZ

a decent sized role?
trust me anime wouldnt be what it is in america today if it wasnt for dragonball z
i understand people have ther opinion about what shows are beter
but i bet big money on it you would have never known about most anime's if it wasnt for dbz
and as a big fan of dbz just to let you know when i say dbz
i meen dragonball and dragonball z and dragon ball gt
and it is in no way kinda poor

I think you guys are both right. A bunch of my friends who think anime is "dorky" watched and/or liked DBZ. I have only been fortunate enough to get in to anime about less than 2 years ago. I tried watching an episode of DBZ with a friend of mine and it took every ounce of courage I had to finish the episode.

You would lose big money with me.

I got into anime in the early 90's with Saint Seiya. It was the big **** back then. After that, it got heavier with the original Dragonball. Then with Clamp's first releases and then with Dragonball Z.

Well, the big diff is that I'm not a US citizen. I live in mexico and thank god we got better anime earlier in our lives. What America did was kiddifying anime and serving it cold with a side dish of censorship.

Hell, I bet ya you heard about Pokemon first than Dragonball Z. You know, the big Pokemon MOVIE released in 99 while Dragonball Z started airing it in Toonami by the end of 98, after the series AND the Pokemon game had *** all over America's kid

Dragonball, in general, is highly over rated. It had it moments.. .but Jesus, the whole series was one huge power up.

I'm not american so your point is kinda mute with me. I also personally feel pokemon has had more of an influence as well as akira and ninja scroll and legend of the overfiend than dragon ball has.

personally, prince arislan and legend of four kings got me into anime, way before i knew what dragonball even was.

and honestly, dragonball z is a weak plot driven animen linked up by fights. it got tedious nearer the ends where group intervention became minimal and the saiyans took over the power race. Plus it dragged hard.

I watch something like gundam wing where the mecha fighting isn't the most interesting part of the story and i really wonder how dragonball has got so famous.

infact, if it wasn't based on journey to the west and the monkey king, I don't think it would have done as well as it did.

It's a fun light hearted show. I like Dragon ball better. The unedited/unamericanized version of DBZ is better, but it is still overly long and tedious and kind of stupid....but like I said, in a good way most of the time.

but the show itself isn't representative of what the best of Anime has to offer. And I personally don't like shows based off of Manga that go on and on and on and on and on and on. I like the shorter story animes.

I agree with November Rain that outside of Nostalgia, it really doesn't hold up that well. But it is by no means the worst anime out there.

Dragon Ball, the original and before Goku was a Saiyan, IS fun. I like it and I'm sure I can go and watch it whenever. After Vegeta was introduced, it all went downhill

You're right and you're wrong. It depends on your age. I'm 21 I got into anime by watching G-Force, Ronin Warriors, Voltron, and Sailor Moon when I 7. But I didn't really start looking for anime hard until I watched: DBZ, Cardcaptors, Outlaw Star, and Gundam Wing. Also what got me into was I moved to the ghetto and started to meet asian and mexican kids.

When you have so many other kick arse anime series out there in retrospect it's pretty low, but there is a little charm in it that still holds dear to me. I guess as people mature there tastes change and series that have a more mature nature to it will eventually take out all the others. Then again it also depends if you are referring to an anime or the manga.

dragonball z made people fall in love with anime
regardless of what you people may say
im pretty sure all of you watched and enjoyed dbz at one point in time
the point of the show is to fight
so if somebody doesnt like to see nice fight scenes then they have no reason to watch the show
i watch anime to watch good action scenes and fantasy type stuff
if i wanted to see a drama i would watch a soap opera not an anime

I think some fans were a little displeased with the direction Z took, Ball was more about adventure rather then fighting.

DB/DBZ influenced the big three shounen we watch/read today. It even influenced video games like Street Fighter and Sonic the Hedgechog. So, I'd say it compares very very well.

imo opinion dbz was like the ultimate kid show in which it had the best fights and decent action, dbz is the best show of its time, seriously dbz and db were allways the thing to talk about, but now its about a certain orange ninja thats what everybodys talking about now, imo thats the next dbz , i love dbz i allways will but naruto imo is going to be the new dbz in terms of popularity.

In terms of popularity, I think it already is, at least in America.

so saint seiya (knights of the zodiac in america) was big during the early 90s?!?! i used to watch that show until toonami took over saterday and it got the boot and was never seen/heard from again!!! that show was a beast, for me it was almost becoming as good as dbz in a way kinda. but DBZ IS AWESOME!!!!!!! but yea, what ever happened to saint seiya? seriously i would wish it would pop up somewhere uncut, unedited and hopefully restored with better dialogue in american language... blah blah blah. american editing should be banned! and so shuld soccer moms!:oldrazz:

Naruto is just as popular as DB/DBZ...I hope someone makes a Naruto live action movie someday

I agree

I think you're underestimating how many people watch and know about Naruto.

I know DBZ was well known around hiphop groups for a while as well as a few other genre', I'm not sure if Naruto has quite hit that level of mainstream in western culture.

DBZ is a great gateway to get into anime. That is most certainly my case. I actually got into DBZ playing this game on the genesis and a week later, I saw an episode of it while in the Philippines during winter break of 94/95, long before it came to America and thought it blew away the X-Men and Spider-Man and Batman cartoons at the time. DBZ to me represents a new kind of intensity in action that you don't see anywhere else.

Sadly, Brolly who is this bad ass became the source of today's crappy emo villains that most casual fans think is bad ass =(.
