Yea i'd agree. He was a fantastic pro, and the best dead ball specialist i've ever seen. His prime was in the late 90s early 2000s, but in his last few years at Madrid, especially under Capello he was really good.
I think if he didn't go to the MLS and played in the top leagues longer, he could have had a few more years as a Pirlo type sitting midfielder. A midfield quarterback, so to speak.
His greatest strength was his attitude i think. When he came back from the 98 World Cup the amount of stick he took was beyond awful. People were burning effigies of him. But he came back even stronger. Lesser men would have capitulated and never made it back to their prime.
