Y'know, since the World Cup is going on, I have to ask. How good was David Beckham, really?

DB7 was the master class of crosses and freekicks. England missed him at this years World Cup.

He was very good don't let the celebrity lifestyle he adapted blind you from the sporting side.

He worked as hard as anyone to get where he is.

He was as good as anyone in his position for about 4 years (96-00) but even as a huge Beckham fan I do think the celebrity got in the way a little. His United performances did dip but having said that he was still fantastic for England, I also think he went to LA far too early in his career.

He was a very good player with an unbelievable career and a great pro but I always think he never reached his full potential, for all the snide remarks from the likes of George Best the kid that started out had terrific energy, a fantastic right foot, a very good footballing brain, great in the air and cool finishing.

He was a good player, made better by the sheer amount of hard work he put into his game and fitness. Nobody trained harder that him in the United team in the late 90's-00's and that made up for some of his other defficiencies such as pace and tricks that players like Scholes and Giggs had naturally.

He was the best dead ball taker I have ever seen, his free kick and corner taking were the most consistent I have seen from any player bar none.

8/10 for ability, 11/10 for application and hard work.

Yea i'd agree. He was a fantastic pro, and the best dead ball specialist i've ever seen. His prime was in the late 90s early 2000s, but in his last few years at Madrid, especially under Capello he was really good.

I think if he didn't go to the MLS and played in the top leagues longer, he could have had a few more years as a Pirlo type sitting midfielder. A midfield quarterback, so to speak.

His greatest strength was his attitude i think. When he came back from the 98 World Cup the amount of stick he took was beyond awful. People were burning effigies of him. But he came back even stronger. Lesser men would have capitulated and never made it back to their prime.

Yeah was a shame he didnt stay at AC Milan a bit longer, he could still be playing in Serie A now probably:woot:

Positive attitude, Hard worker and the best crosser/Free kick taker of all time.

Not the best free kick taker of all time there's been many who had a better success rate than him. Juninho of Lyon springs to mind when talking about scoring free kicks.

He came 2nd in the FIFA World Player of the Year (now called the Ballon d'Or) which Messi & Ronaldo hog every year.

He was a workhorse RM, would get up the pitch to put in pin point crosses & then track all the way back to help Gary Neville for both England & Manchester United. Superb crosser & passer of the ball & his free-kick/corner taking ability is arguably the best football has ever seen.

Very good player & in truth, he could have continued to play full-time in Europe at the top level longer than he did. True professional & one of the best players England has ever produced.
