How old is too old to drive?

My granddad is like, 74, he's the craziest driver I've ever been with, lol. :o Anyhoo yeah, whatever, tests. Especially to prevent crap like that.

hopefully when i turn 70, i'll have my own robot car to drive for me :)

After age 65 you should have to take a driving test every two years until you hit 72 and then you take a test every year.

But if you think its bad now, wait a few years. Most old people are not into technology but in about 10 years or less all the old people in their 60's or 70's might be technology junkies. I mean people who are in their 20's try to drive and text message at the same time and without the texting they drive like shat.

Not that this question isn't valid... but what is with the 'AGE'ism in this forum recently?

My grandparents are in their mid 80's, and still drive really well.

But most old drivers around 65-70 are horrible, and just seem to don't give a s*** about other drivers, and their cars.

One time when I was sitting in my truck, during my lunch break, and an older couple (around 70) parks right next to me. I'm sleeping in my car, wake up and hear him get out. I hear a huge BANG! on the side of my truck's bed. The old guy's front door put a dent into the side of my truck! I wanted to kick his ass, because my truck as immaculate! :cmad:

Oh, and when I got out to look at the dent, the guy just looked at me and nodded, smiling. D***head.

True,

So conversely, how young is too young?

I would like to see the legal age raised to 18 but at 16 you could still get a permit to drive to work or school or anywhere if you are with a licensed driver over 18.

What's driving very well? They don't kill people on the sidewalks.

I think that you should have to take the full on driving test every time you have to renew your license.

It depends on the person. There are many elderly people who are just as sharp as they were when they were 30. It would be unfair to take away their licenses when they can drive perfectly fine.

But yeah and annual driving test for anyone over 75 is a good idea.

Yeah, I agree with both points.

What do you mean by sharp? There is no possible way that a 80 year old can have the same reflexes as when they were 30. With older people driving its about paying attention and reflexes. either way, if they can pass a driving test then they should still be able to drive.

Driving is mostly about judgement. If it was all about reflexes then only ninjas would be allowed to drive.

I don't care how old you are, as long as you can pass the tests, you should get a license. That said, the tests should A LOT more difficult than they currently are. I'm never in a worse mood than when I'm driving; there are way too many people who don't understand how their actions affect all the cars around them. Nor do they care, which is worse.

On more than one occasion at the DMV, I've seen children "helping" their foreign-language-speaking parent with the written test AND the eye test. Are you ****ing kiddding me? If you can't read the language of the signs posted and of the test given, you should not be allowed a license, and if you can't even see the letters, get used to the passenger seat. You are a danger to those around you. If you're afraid of the cars close to you and you don't like going fast, don't get on the goddamn highway :cmad: *deep breath* Geez, even thinking about being on the road pisses me off.

Old people suck at driving, most were trained in the army with tanks! they should be made to retake the tests every 5 years from 65!

People of any age who drive slow in the passing lane should get their licenses revoked on site! :cmad:

Age has nothing to do with it ... ability is the more important quality ... how old is Brandy? And we have more than one thread about her ability to drive ... or lack thereof ...:ghost:

surely this is completely relative...

heck, i think all drivers should re-new their licences every five years.
