How religious you are?

I think to some extent we all believe in something, I mean no one wants to believe that death is the end.

why not? I'm happy to leave it at death

Who here actually feels they NEED religion?

Personally i am very happy without it and don't feel i need belief in a higher power to make my life and more worthwhile or anything.

Well I think its how you define the word "religion."

My religion defines it as a "way of life."

The dictionary defines it, among others, as:

1. A system of beliefs and a way of living that corresponds to such beliefs.

2. Any system or institution which one engages with in order to foster a sense of meaning or relevence in relation to something greater than oneself.

So from that sense, we all follow some type of religion or lifestyle.

What you may not need, at least at this point, is organized religion but you have a specific way of life that you are currently living.

Since you are happy and satisfied with your life, you have achieved the benefits of what a "religion" should bring to a person.

Others, like myself, do believe in an higher power and have found the same happiness and satisfication with the organized religion that they found.

However there is a major difference in belonging to a particular religion and willfully conforming to the teachings of that religion.

The two definitions used in sociological terms are inclusive and exclusive.

Inclusive is anything that has collective group worship, so footbal supporting is included.

Exclusive requires a supernatural element.

There are worse things than death and there other various forms of death worse than physical death.

i'm not religious at all but i have beliefs...

...and one of those beliefs is that "God" is not what most people on this planet are expecting him...i mean, IT...to be.

One's religion and beliefs should always be of their preferred choice.

very true, raybia. i've experienced a lot of Christians try to push their religion onto me...i can't tell you how many times i've had to reply "oh how Christian of you!" with sarcasm in my voice.

i don't care if it's the "weakest form of humor"...sarcasm is my friend.

moral, mental and spiritual death are much worse than physical death.

Oppression is worse than physical death.

Tell me more about it. Mental Death is like someone who is braindead, or it's more like a metaphisical thing?

Seriously guys, you may think its dumb (I agree that its kind of dumb) but its his right to spell it that way. ANd yes I know you'll say but its my right to call it stupid, I know you'll say that because you're predictable, but if you're going to be bothered by something so irrelevant as to how a person spells god, then really, its time to get you laid with some swedish model threesome action.

*calls the Fury*
If you're bothered by us being bothered by something stupid, you're in worse shape than us my friend. You're gonna need 5 swedish models.

Well certainly I would rather be dead than be braindead, which is pretty being dead anyway except the body is kept alive.

Its not metaphyiscal but I would define mental death as not having the ability for logical reasoning and perpetual and willful ignorance towards knowledge and understanding.

If you have an interest in metaphysics, I suggest watching the movie "What the Bleep do we know." Very interesting concepts and theories.

It certainly doesn't bother me that something I do bothers others. I fact I find it enpowering.

LOL! I also find the hypocrisy hilarous of being labelled stupid.

I used to be heavily into Buddhism but my interest decreased a little.... though meditation is still a daily practice.

You should work on putting your words in the right order, and learn to spell, then we'll stop labeling you stupid.

Seriously though, if you said you just wanted to show reverence because his name was so holy that it shouldn't be spelled out by mere mortals, I'd probably understand. But doing it because "it spells dog backwards" is just incredibly trivial and silly. Really really really silly.

Damn, if god exists (witch he doesn't) and if raybia is right (witch he isn't)
god would be more needy and tempermental than my ex-girlfriend if he gives a **** about God being spelled dog backwards.

Where is your factual evidence for this?

You can "believe" in god, but you can't know.

I have had to much happen in my life to doubt his existence

still that's me

LOL! silly because some guy on an internet message board says so? Aren't you an arrogant piece of work!

Who needs your understanding? I'm not as insecure as you may be.

Really dude, leave it alone. You know what is really really silly and trivial? The time and effort that you and others have made to criticize something is that supposedly trivial and silly.
