I think this is a great, new opportunity to film one of the greatest and most tragic story arcs in comic book history.

How should it be approached this time?

This time?? It wasnt approached before...

But I think if anything it should be saved for the second movie, would be great to see a new take on the Green Goblin too

It should be approached exactly like in the comics and they should wait til the third movie imo.

Well, it SHOULD be approached exactly like in the comics, but if I know Sony like I think I do, they'll probably change it to avoid confusion with the whole MJ-being-thrown-off-a-bridge fiasco in the original movie.

Hopefully Carnage won't be the one to kill her like in the Ultimate comics...

It shouldn't. At all. It would be a bad move to have another Goblin fight on a bridge and if Gwen dies some other way it loses the impact of the comics.
Besides which, I really don't think audiences need to see Spidey fail like that now.

It should happen just like it did in the comics.
Play with the audience's expectations, lull them into a false sense of security and have them thinking "man, this is lame, it's just what they did at the end of the first movie, I KNEW rebooting Spider-Man was a bad idea" then after Pete recues her WHAM! He can't wake her up... Gwen's dead.

See what they make of that!

Just like the comics, if it does happen that way

i think that not doing the Gwen Saga in the original was a travesty (though i did enjoy the flicks).

Introduce Gwen and MJ both in the new one. By the end of the first one, have Gwen and Pete together. Gwen's death is in the second one, and in the 3rd, Pete and MJ get together.

Have Gwen's death be some sort of "shock moment" in a sequel. Have the first movie put Peter and Gwen together, and save her demise in the sequel.

For me, just have the Green Goblin kidnap Gwen and lure Spidey into a trap. GG gets away, but Spider-man manages to "save" Gwen, only to have it be too late...

Have the cause of her death be a complete mystery...like in the comics. Just have the grieving Peter wondering....

Just like the comic books, if not similar; I like the idea of a glider piercing her chest like Dafoe though. :woot:

I think after 3 movies in which Spidey's girl was kidnapped & almost killed, we need to just really leave that plot device alone. If Webb is smart, he'll stay far away from it.

Lets NOT have her die.Lets have Mary Jane die instead.Thats the way it always should have been.

it was more like his penis!
and like the comics...and there is no this time cause raimi wasted a bridge scene and didnt have gwen yet...
and it SHOULD happen...cause its one of the most popular things to ever happen to spidey and itd transfer well on screen as a story...

Definitely not exactly like the comics. The basics should be there: Goblin exploiting Parker's identity, Spidey failing to save her, maybe the snap of the neck, etc. But don't adhere to what the comics did. I think that'd be a mistake, especially when Raimi has already adapted parts of it onto film.

Surprise the audience and the fans who know the arc by heart. Reinvent the story to suit a modern crowd, really make it a gripping piece of cinema.

How did you manage to type exactly what I was going to type?

I think it would make a good mystery or cliffhanger when she fell. Let the audience figure out what happens to her.

i want it to happen just like the comics only at the very end of 2, then 3 can be Spidey's hunt for Goblin.

Because you seem to be the only person here who agrees with me.
Wow. That's a bit of a shocker when you think about it.

I told ya we likely agree on more than we don't.

I doubt we're the only ones who see the futility of trying to translate this storyline albeit classic to the big screen. It was a gimmick in the comics and ultimately did nothing to really alter Peter's life, other than removing Gwen from it and replacing her with MJ.

I think that the reboot Green Goblin should look like so.

I think that the idea of Gwen Stacy's death brings an expected insurance that there will not be a straying from the comics. Have Peter Parker blame himself for her death.

MJ is being cast now. She will be the lead female. You usually cast your lead female after the lead actor is cast. There will be no Gwen story. I think that is a shame, but that is the reality I see.

With MJ being cast, this pretty much confirms that this is more of a continuation with a recast than a reboot.

Agreed. This is why I was pushing Gwen. This reboot COULD have stood on its own by doing so. Instead, we're getting a reboot that oddly resembles the previous movies.
