Anyone have any indepth knowledge/articles/photos o nhow they did the jokers makeup and prostetics for batman 89?

I remeber there was a photo thread and someone posted some pretty cool behind the scenes shots.

Yeah I've read that one before...pretty good :)

They talk about it on the SE DVD as well.

Nicholson also had to have a special mix made up because he was allergic.

Yeah I got the SE I just thoguth maybe some batfans (like you SHADOWBAT69 :)) may have some really good insight or archive stuff on it.

Haven't seen those before, thanks guys.

The one with the prosthetic butt chin looks atrocious. And the one they used to test on Nicholson looked bad too. But the final product was great.

you know what, let me check and see. Ive got alot of stuff and I am currently going thru it all. Organizing it. There is a F/X magazine, Im not remembering the name of it, that has a pretty in depth article about the make up they used. I dont have it, but I know who does. Ill see if he can scan the pages and send them my way.

Photo is blocked Kevin. Seems they don't want anything getting off site.

the effect of the Joker wiping the flesh colored make-up off and revealing the white skin (in the scene where he fries rotelli) was done completely differently than I had expected. I thought that the hankerchief had white make up on it and he just wiped it on his head but instead they used grease paint to mask the white make-up which sounded like it wasn't too fun to be wearing (because jack couldn't touch his face the whole time).

God does that look terrible! Glad that wasn't the final product

I once thought that was the way they did it also. According to one of the interviews I have the reason it didnt work was because they needed Jack to look like he was wearing make up over his white face to conceal it. When they tried to "wipe" the white onto his already made up face, all it did was smear the 2 colors together and didnt give the effect they wanted. Thus they had to come up with this multi layer system to do it properly.

Yeah, it worked great. I read the article from that site posted above and it said Nicholson had a slight prosthetic chin and nose!

I do know that they had created a bunch of prosthetic chins(most looked terrible), but wasn't sure that Jack had wore one!

there were actually afew prosthetic pieces all pieced together and blended to give him the whole grin affect. If i remember correctly, Jack talked briefly in the SE DVD about wanting the elongated chin just to give a nod to the comic book appearance.

Just a short piece from a new article on my site

“The entire process consisted of applying two upper lip pieces that had to be put on while Nicholson was grinning so that they were under the correct tension. Then, over those went two pieces — one on either side — that ran from the cheek and incorporated the cheekbone and the nasolabial folds coming down into the lower jaw to provide the lower lip of the smile. That piece was fixed with a locking point into the upper lip prosthetic. The locking point was just a little plug that was negative on the upper lip piece and positive on the piece that came over it so that it literally snapped in."

The whole article is here Joker's Make-Up
enjoy

I liked how Jack wore purple during his interview for the SE DVD.

GODDAMN it was such a great makeup job!!! I miss the 80's :(

Alot of those prostetic guys were just real geniusus (I don't count Rick Baker as he has gone a bit off the rocker in the last like 8 years.)
