How was your reaction to how the Jean/Dark Phoenix was done?

I think that a large firebird might have been too much. I would have been happy with flames around her body like in X2. Anything, larger than that would feel cartoony if you think about it...

Might have worked during the rising, but I would have liked to see the exact effects from X2.

I think even if we had the effects in X2 used in this it would have been cool.

Also just read your sig as well DOD its funny.

The first half was great for Jean, the second was so pathetic I thought I was watching a grade school play.

It really shows that there was no intelligence behind this movie, no thought went into keeping the film locked into its own logic. That is how singer made his succeed, he never broke the rules of the universe he created. The new creative team failed at this badly as they would do anything that sounded cool whether it fit into the universe or not. You create a character so powerful that you cant do anything with her for half the movie cause nothing would make sense.

The movie defied its own internal logic and once it did that, things fall apart quickly.

I know I've said this before, and it pissed of alot but here it is again...

Hated Alkali lake:
The whole giant toilet fluch effect and the spolight in my eyes then poof and tadaaa, was really stupid, IMHO

and don't even get me started on Famke's reaction to being ressurected. I know I'm not the only one who saw how abo****ely terrible that was.

The end was not much better...last time I checked the DP didn't equal angry face.

The best thing Phoenix did was not blink and not speak, it made her look tough....sorry guys, but that's my truth.

Even though she was standing there, thats all she needed to do, everyone in the audience was captivated to her, her presence kept everyone wondering what she would do next, and the at alctraz it was unleahsed...it was a build up process

I very much agree with this. I liked that she looked so enigmatic and stoic. And despite the fact that she was so powerful, the impression I got from her is that she was like in a conflict of emotions. She didn't look like a zombie to me. She looked like she was pondering and kinda unsure how to proceed in the final battle until the soldiers attacked her.

Crap

There wasn´t any drama in her, she was just bad, killed a lot of people, and died at the end.

There was drama every time she talked to Logan.
i.e. in the infirmary when glimpses of her good psyche asks him to kill her, and then in the end when again, her good side let's Logan to kill her.

And the one which I found the most dramatic one when she kills Xavier.

If I remember correctly, she was just bad in the DPS comic story, killed a lot of people (aliens), and died at the end.

She killed Xavier in the most pointless scene in the movie (cool, but pointless).
She didn´t felt any remorse for what she did, and the all "don´t let it control you" line that Xavier let out just before he died was stupid, because, when a line like is delivered, it´s mean for the character, either being strucked by it or have a inner strugle for control..you get neither, so, it was totally inconsequent.

Dark Phoenix killed Xavier, not Jean Grey. And she had to kill him because he wanted to suppress her or block her. So we are talking here about a corrupted and evil entity with no remorse and morals.

So, you ask how was the Dark Phoenix saga handle?
What Phoenix Saga

And I believe the question is more about how the Jean Grey/Dark Phoenix character was portrayed than about the Dark Phoenix Saga story.

There was no redemption, only the smallest hints of a conflict. I liked Famke's portrayal, really I did. It's the material they had her work with that ticked me off.

There was no support from any of the other characters. no one tried to call out or appeal to her even when they had the chance. No remorse, no love. The story is supposed to revolve around Jean and Scott, not Jean and Logan. She loves Logan, but not as much as Scott. At best he would be the #2 mon to try to pull her out of the dark. With Scott it'd be alot more powerful and meaningful but of course they conveniently removed him out of the script early on, and in a cold-blooded way. They ended up with a monster going berzerd on their hands which Magneto helped release because of his big mouth that had to be destroyed. It all felt like it was on a conveyor belt, everything being herded to a conclusion that the producers wanted to reach no matter how unlikely the circumstances for getting there. Jus as long as they got the final result: a Jean Grey dead again.

And that's not right

Its was fine and but very forgettable...They made her very powerful but also uninteresting and..the split personality was the way to go...bu they took it in the wrong direction,I actually wanted to see what corrupted instead of just a split personality from since she was young...Her resurrection was boring and off screen, she had didn't have much to say, her powers were fine but nothing much
I expected an all out Brawl with the X-men against her....This movie sets the tone that will wil never see jean grey in another X-men movie...She sacrified herself already then dyed and then someone killed her and she will stay permantly dead now....I don't see her coming back...

Ok, well I liked the Pheonix in this movie, but I would have changed a few things. Firstly, I didnt like how she was with Magneto for no reason whatsoever. I thought she'd be way less obedient and just do whatever she feels. But I let that slide. Another thing I didnt like was her zombie look. They had the right idea with the black eyes, to emphasize that she is the Dark Pheonix, but her veiny look, I didnt like. I, unlike many others didnt mind that she killed Scott because there was nothing they could do, they had to get rid of James Marsdens due to scheduling conflict. I think they had her kill Prof X because they always get rid of Prof X before the end scene of the movie. For example, he had been brain damaged before the ending of X1, because Mystique messed with Cerebro and in X2, he was being kidnapped and the X men were rescuing him. Anyways, I also didnt like how, they made it seem like Jean had turned to the darkside, when really it was Pheonix who was controlling her. For example, Storm says "she made her choice" and then I wondered if she knew that Pheonix was the one. Overall I really didnt understand the Pheonix in this movie. It would have been better if Pheonix and had talked more and said how she the Pheonix and not Jean. And also I didnt like how Jean had no control over powers killing mutants left, right, and centre. Pheonix had control over Jeans powers, it was Jean who had no control over the Pheonix. And I really didnt like how she turned people to ash. She used it way too often, making it seem like that was her primary power. I wanted the X men to attempt to stop Pheonix. Anyway, Overall I did like the Pheonix though.

The lack of a Pheonix effect didn't bother me, but here's two things that did (the second is nothing anyway):

1) It would have been very dramatic to see her rise from the lake- I'm not even talking a ton of special effects or anything. All they needed was to have the water part that little circle in the center and show Jean slowly rising up from the water, similar in position to when she killed Xavier (except not evil looking). It didn't need to have fire and her flying all over, just taken a little slower and more dramatic. Hell, let her walk on water over to Scott, just not what they did- it was a lost opportunity.

2) They should have had Magneto refer to her as Pheonix, that she was reborn again like the Pheonix from the flame. Having Xavier randomly say "she had a dual personality named Pheonix" was lame. Just like how Kitty is sad and goes "I don't know, I just miss the first snow". Poor writing on both accounts.

Agree completely, I was very dissapointed when all that happened was shining light and then bam there she was.

As someone else said, "what Dark Phoenix Saga?"

She was basically Carrie on steroids. The whole dark eyeballs -living dead-possessed look didn't fit at all.

As for the Phoenix effect...after X2 I was looking forward to it. But as time went on and I followed this film on the Hype, it became more and more obvious that Fox would probably find some way or excuse to not do the Phoenix effect.

Honestly, how do you balk at the cost of f/x when trying to include the Phoenix? Duh?!?

I'm wondering how much of that is due to time limits, and if so, if X3 will get the same "director's version" that Mr. and Mrs. Smith just got a few weeks ago, with alternate scenes, some extra footage, and better editing.
