How Would You Fix the Economy?

This was an article from the St. Petersburg Times Newspaper on Sunday. The Business Section asked readers for ideas on "How Would You Fix the Economy?" This article was one of the ideas submitted...





Dear Mr. President,

Patriotic retirement:

There's about 40 million people over 50 in the work force - pay them $1 million apiece severance with the following stipulations:

1) They leave their jobs. Forty million job openings -Unemployment fixed.

2) They buy NEW American cars. Forty million cars ordered - Auto Industry fixed.

3) They either buy a house/pay off their mortgage -
Housing Crisis fixed.


Can't get any easier than that!

So they're forced to not have any more income and then they have to make very large purchases. With many people living into their late 70s/80s, do you really think 1 million dollars is enough to last 20-30 years. Oh yeah and it isn't even that much money because you've gotta buy a new car and pay off your entire mortgage or new home. Jim Wright should work for the banking industry, he seems to be a natural with finance.

The best way to fix the economy would be to legalize marijuana, tax it, and trickle the money earned from it to several sectors of the economy. This is a multi-billion dollar industry which could boost the economy overnight.

No goverment interferance with the economy. It was the housing laws that gvot us into this, proving Adam Smith's Point that Goverment interferance in a capatalist system only leads to disaster.

How is it blood money? Its money, and it is money that is escaping our Tax Code now.

More people are supporting this than ever before. And, it is continuing growth. Anyone that understands it, never goes back and stands against it.

I happen to be a supporter of the FairTax

However, I think exceptions can be made. Taxing drugs, cigarettes and alcohol are a few of them. Tax some of the 'sinful' products and pass the revenue on to programs which benefit all of us.

No, I am saying that Drug Dealers and prostitutes Eat and buy clothing, and buy cars and put gas in them. When they purchase things, they will be paying taxes. Currently, Drug Dealers and Prostitutes do not tax taxes on the income they make.

There isn't a law that says you can breathe.
If they don't say you can't do it, you can do it. You don't need to get permission from Uncle Sam.
Governments can never give you privileges, all they can ever do is take them away from you.

I think we should decriminalize all drugs, but marijuana should be legalized. The war on drugs is a waste of our money.
