So I'm half-addicted to the Howard Stern Show. I listen to the full show every day. I thought it might be interesting to have reaction from SSH fans who also like the King.

Eh...he's pretty juvenile to me. I tuned in during his crusade against Bush and the FCC. He's definitely a smart guy when he wants to be.

Hoo hoo, I invented posting on messageboards, Robin.

I'm with PhotoJones, he's entertaining and he's definately very intelligent, however his juvenile antics sometimes are too much for me, I'll listen to him every now and then... but then again now that he's off E! and not on regular radio... I doubt I'll ever hear him again :(

There's loads I fast forward through, but the thing i love about show is the dynamics between stern and his staff.

on that note, for anyone who currently listens:

What are your thoughts on Arite and his revelation Thursday that he's 'leaving show business (and the show) in January?

What's his reasoning behind that?

I'll be honest, the whole "shock jock" thing lost it's appeal to me long ago. These guys like Stern and Opie & Anthony got to a point where they were just trying to outdo each other in the outrageous department and somewhere along the way they forgot to keep being funny and entertaining while they were doing it. It became all about who could do the most offensive thing without getting kicked off the air. I respect what they do in defense of free speech, but I really can't listen to them anymore. Thankfully, there's guys like Bob & Tom who still try to just put on an entertaining morning show and seem to care more about the funny than they do just finding things to do that are over the top or outrageous just for the sake of it.

Well with the current FCC rules and Watchdog programs it is like there is an agenda against "shock jocks" and they won't stop til they are off the air. And honestly I would rather listen to them than the regular morning "whacky" zoos and their fake radio.

That's pretty much how I feel, as well. The reason I listened to Stern was to basically hear him rightfully ***** about the FCC. When he's go into the "shock jock" part of his show, I'd listen until I lost interest and then I'd change the station.

Now, Bob and Tom rule my morning commute.

I cant justify paying to listen to the radio. I like Stern, but I've heard his stuff for almost 20 years and although some of it's amusing it's all basically the same thing he's been doing for 20 years just now they can curse.

The FCC have become just another extension of the neo-con agenda, unfortunately. They're out of control with the censorship and regulations, even overstepping their bounds and changing the indecency definitions. I'm hoping it will be better once they're out of office. And, yeah, most of the morning "whacky" radio guys are pretty lame. I can't even listen to my local guys they suck so much. Bob And Tom, though....they rule.

^ hmmm... dems run on that issue too, unfortunately. at least they don't do much of anything about it though.

Stern was funnier when he was reigned in slightly by censorship. Even though I am never a fan of censorship, one benefit of it is it makes people (like Stern) more creative in the pursuit of doing bits of blue comedy or sexual humor. Coming up with words like "Hey-nannu-nannu", using sound effects, saying "Third input", etc. etc. actually went a long way to making that stuff funnier than it actually was.

Also, over the years Howard has let everything go to his head too much; "I'm the king of all media" was fine, but "I'm the greatest actor (in reference to Private Parts", "I'm the best interviewer" and "I invented message board posting with my fans" was just stupid to the point of ridiculous and ******ed. And the truth is he isn't the King anymore, people like Jon Steward and Stephen Colbert are now taking his place (Colbert may be the new King -- once he gets a movie).

Stern sadly is a relic, and like The Simpsons did not know when to finally get off the air.

It's all the fault of Janet Jackson's right tit. :down

But like the Simpsons, the quality might have gone down but he still controls a huge amount of the market share. The amount of people who signed up for Sirus(or w/e satelite radio company he is signed on for) when he started his radio station on their is STAGGERING... So Simpsons, Stern, they still wrack in tons of money.

I kinda agree with Shadow Boxing: he's lost a lot of his shock in my opinion. Not saying he's tepid now by any means...but he's definitely lost some flavor over the years. I'm bored with him now.

And has become everything he use to make fun of. He's become the system.

And that might be true, and might be a great explanation for why he is still on the air, just not a justification for him keeping a lackluster show going.

If people like him, I'd say it's justification enough. I mean if people didn't watch his show then it should be off the air but I can't assume that my opinion is the end-all-be-all opinion(though I like to tout it as such at times:woot: ) I say the Simpsons should of ended years ago, and if I watched a lot of Howard Stern I'd say teh same thing however, there sitll plenty of people who still like it and never want it to end so it's justification enough to be on the air.

He also doesn't know how to do anything else. His movie was a critical and box office dud. I don't recall how well his book did but the one thing he's always gone back to is his radio show because that's all he really knows how to do.

His book was very successful.

And to say radio is the only thing he knows how to do, implies that he's stuck there with no other options. He's very good at what he does, and he's built up quite a name for himself doing it. He enjoys doing radio.

That said, his sense of humor and mine don't really jive a lot of the time.

I just think his skillset truly lies in radio and that's where he's able to really do everything he wants to do whereas he's not as fluent with other types of media and therefore not as able to fulfill his creative vision. With his show, he's pretty much the one in charge. With a movie, you're at the mercy of the studios and producers unless you go the Indy route, and even then you've got other people sticking their fingers in the middle of things. His show is the one place he's got some autonomy.

Yeah, I'd go along with that. I do remember his movie as being fairly successful, at least critically, though.
