Marvel & Hulu Ink Pact For ‘Howard The Duck’ Animated Series + More – TCA

Hulu is hoping to strongly up its Marvel game and to resurrect the reputation of the acerbic Howard The Duck, who got plucked in that terrible 1986 feature film, as part of its big programming chess move. The HTD series based on the cigar chomping character first introduced in the comics in 1973 will be stewarded by Clerks kingpin Kevin Smith, along with Dave Willis. Both will executive produce the series with Marvel TV boss Jeph Loeb.

Kevin Smith Offers a New HOWARD THE DUCK Update and Offered Lea Thompson a Role

Kevin Smith is obviously excited about working on Marvel and Hulu’s Howard The Duck animated series; he can’t stop talking about it! He already talked about getting to “do fowl things” with series. Now he continues to gush about what is being done with these shows and also reveals that he’s already asked original Howard The Duck movie star Lea Thompson to be a part of the show and voice one of the characters, so that’s cool!

Things must be sacrificed for the greater good. The past few years of Marvel cartoons have been pretty weak under Loeb.

Well, we don't know yet if M.O.D.O.K. or Hit Monkey will be any better or worse than Tigra & Dazzler or Howard the Duck may have ended up being, so whose to say whether those would break the trend of weak Marvel cartoons or just be more of the same?

Yeah. I think they were thinking more bojack horseman but it came out more generic marvel cartoon number 36464. It’s funny timing though. It feels like a lot of animation projects are getting cancelled all of a sudden
