Hugh Jackman's Seed Productions has made a Fox 2000 deal to turn the Robert Littell spy novel The Amateur into an action vehicle for Jackman, reports Variety.

"24" executive producer Evan Katz will write the script and Jackman will produce with partner John Palermo.

Jackman will play a CIA cryptographer whose fiancee is killed in a suspicious plane crash. When he discovers that the plane was brought down by terrorists, he finds the leverage that forces his bosses to train him to exact revenge.

Littell's novel, which was set during the Cold War, was previously turned into a 1981 film. The new project isn't a remake, but a different version using the book as source material. Katz will contemporize the tale with the goal of launching a character in the vein of Jack Ryan or Jason Bourne.

I like the sound of this, hope it gets a good director

Nice.
I'm a huge Jackman fan, too.

Jackman's turning out to be a golden boy. I'm sure they'll pull in a good director for this.

geez, hardest working man in show biz. When is he going to find the time? He's got the Luhrman Australian Epic and then Wolverine.

Everything he does propels Jackman to being my favorite actor.

Jackman is a great action star guy, I like the sound of this one...a lot of the movies im looking forward to have him starring in it.

Even VanHelsing?

Well, it wasn't his fault.
He could've been a great Van Helsing.
I blame Stephen Sommers for that movie being full of crap.

I thought this said Hugh Jackman is an amateur.

I thought Van Helsing was good for what it was, and Hugh Jackman did great.
