Hugh Jackman has won a Tony award for The Boy from Oz and has done other extensive theatre work. I saw him on PBS doing Oklahoma! of all things.

He can really belt out a tune.

This isn't a bad choice for Oscar Host. He did a good job hosting the Tony Awards a few times (it got him a few Emmy nominations), so this won't be too bad.

At least it's not Whoopi Goldberg. Maybe it will be something different.

Hugh is a showman since he came from the stage and he was a song and dance guy in London and on stage. I wonder how that will translate to the Oscars. Some musical numbers sung by Hugh would be cool.

20th Century Fox must be happy about this as well. Think about all the Wolverine cross-promotion.

This is out of left field, I admit. Usually they want someone with a massive comedy background, but the only other thing I've seen him do that has a lot of comedy was that Flushed Away cartoon, which he was pretty hilarious voicing. I do hope he takes a couple potshots at celebs though, that is always a must.
