Well, with all the controversy surrounding Chavez lately I just figured I'd find out what Hypesters thought about the man. I both heard and read a number of things about him, some completely demonizing him and others treating him like an angel. So...?

he recommended a book by chomsky didnt he?

Good guy. Good for a laugh, good for saying saber rattling, good for flipping GW the bird, good for a lot of things. And good for Venzuela, right now.

Hey may be a communist but atleast someone in power is telling it like it is regarding Bush.

He's my homie. We go down south and play jump the border, great times.

Bush is Satin? Give me a break. :whatever:

He speaks truthfully about Bush more often than I'd like. Ironically, though, he has more traits in common with Bush than he'd like to admit. He's set up special tribunals with handpicked judges for his political opponents, controls the press, etc.

Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Satin's got alot more lights on upstairs.

I wouldn't say that he's a bad guy but he's definetly not a good guy.

He's becomming an elected autocrat.

Most of the things he says about the United States are pointless saber rattling. And at times are completely tasteless (George Bush being the Devil at the UN)

He's trying to spread his influence throughout South America (sometimes successfully and others not).

He supports nations that just have a simple anti-US policy, Cuba, Iran, and Syria. It doesn't even matter if they are terrorist supporting nations (Iran and Syria), the only requirements for Mr. Chavez is "anti-US"

And the truth is that he would have no power if it weren't for his precious oil.

If Venezuela gets a Security Council seat, it will be a horrible waste of one on account that it would only be used to speak against the United States, which Chavez has admitted.

However, I do beleive that he really wants to help the poor.

that, and I honestly think so, sounds exactly like Bush, just in another country.

well, except for the "helping the poor "thing. cus, you know, let's be honest.

Well, there have been a bunch of unfounded claims on CNN over the past couple of days suggesting that Hugo Chavez is supporting terrorism. I say unfounded because it clearly seems like a smear campaign as CNN just says it without actualy providing "any" sort of rational reason for the allegations at all. They simply play their scary, bull****, theatrical fear music and say things like "reports say that Hugo Chavez may possibly be supporting terrorism and that his country of Venezuela might possibly be a possible potential terror activity hub of sorts, possibly." :whatever: How ****ing vague and ridiculous is that? But they get what they want from it; A bunch of ignorant clowns who only get their news from the likes of CNN and Fox spreading word across the country about how dangerous and crazy Chavez is without actualy having any idea about the man at all. So when the US decides to go to war with Venezuela they'll have the support of all these easily duped *******s, you watch. Also, make no mistake that Operation Venezuelian Liberation of Democratic Freedom and Flowers for Everyone will be, like the Iraq war, all about the neo-conservative push for global, free-market capitalism (with a little oil on the side) and NOT about spreading ****ing democracy or about protecting Americans.

That is what's really scary.

"If I feed the poor, they call me a saint; if I ask why there are poor, they call me a communist."

I can understand why rich people don't like Hugo but I can't understand why anyone else wouldn't like him.

I like that he's given cheap heating oil to poor American communities, but that was probably motivated by trying to make Bush look bad for not taking care of his own. Oh well, can't say for sure where I stand on him. I need to study up more.

He's helping W more than hurting him. Thusly, he's as big an ass.

How is he helping Dubya? Half the countries in South America have turned leftist because of his influence.

His maniacal rantings make him appear unhinged and give W the moral high ground.

And the countries of which you speak basically already were leftist. Guess whose fault that is? No, not W's but it's definitely a result of our sponsoring of several military dictatorships that only until recently held sway down there for decades.

You are wrong. The leftist governments from Chile, Brasil, Uruguay and Argentina are not the same than the radicals from Venezuela and Bolivia

They're all socialist democracies and the differences aren't as extreme as you think.

man, I live in one of those "Socialist Democracies" (ALL the countries in Southamerica are capitalist) and the differences are big.

Actually a lot of countries are electing moderate/right winged candidates in fear of Chavez. Peru, Mexico, El Salvador, Guatemala, Ecuador, Paraguay, Colombia, and Costa Rica have elected such candidates. Most out of fear of Chavez and his influence.

Bolivia is the only nation to elect an openly pro-Chavez candidate.

While Chile, Brazil, Uruguay, Panama, and Argentina have left leaning governments, they really aren't willing and won't be buddy-buddy with Chavez.

Also, most of Central America opposes Venezuela's bid to gain a Security Council seat.
