Anybody been watching the new Hunter X Hunter anime? Since it was a complete restart i used the oportunity to become hooked on Hunter X Hunter, and to see if Naruto taking things from it was true :oldrazz:

Plot:
The story focuses on a young boy named Gon, who discovers that his father, whom he was told was dead, is actually alive and well. He learns that his father, Ging, is a world-renowned Hunter: a licensed profession for those who specialize in fantastic pursuits such as locating rare or unidentified animal species, treasure hunting, surveying unexplored enclaves, or hunting down lawless individuals. Despite Ging having left his son with his relatives in order to pursue his own dreams, Gon departs upon a journey to follow in his father's footsteps, pass the rigorous Hunter Examination, and eventually find his father. Along the way, Gon meets various other kinds of Hunters and also encounters the paranormal.

I really liked last episode, i find it very interesting how the Hunter X Hunter some places seem like they were really destroyed by a modern war. I have to wonder what will happen to the show when they get to the events of the manga, considering how much time the author takes between chapters, there will be a bunch of filler or they will have to end the show right there.

Hii folks.........

I watched Japanese manga series Hunter X Hunter anime . Its very interesting . It can written by Yoshihiro Togashi. There are also numerous audio albums, video games, musicals, and other media based on Hunter × Hunter. Gon is mine favorite character . Its very popular anime in Japan .

Yeah, it just doesn't sell as much as the big three because of the constant hiatuses, in least the indiviuals chapters are not as popular in shonen jump, as the volumes actually seem to sell very well. The anime has been very successfull though, and seems like there's going to be a new movie

They're going to release collectible chess pieces of the Hunter X Hunter anime reboot:

Hi Jennifer
I like Hunter X Hunter, but I only saw up until episode 63, still twisting arms to get the rest

Last episode was awesome, the final part was incredible

If it's too violent then tell me to delete it as it includes a lot of decapitations.

The anime's almost near the end of the Yorknew arc, just hope they can make the ending as good as the 1st OVA did.

The film also has a cool new poster

Yorknew Arc is over, the next arc is Greed Island

Don't let the look deceive you, it may seem like a chesy happy anime on the outside but the story's quite dark. Each arc is very different from the next, last arc was Yorknew and it was like a gang wars/ revenge arc, the next arc is a virtual game one where the characters enter into an RPG where players die in reality if they die in the game.

There they must compete in all kinds of games, it basically starts from where the 1st OVA ended for those that only watched the original anime.

Started watching this today while I was home sick. After ten episodes it's really grown on me :D
I love the pacing of the episodes, even though it stalls a bit where they fight the prisoners around episodes 8-9-10 but overall its great.

Only real gripe I have about it is that I don't for one bit buy Kurapika character, just.. no. Neither do I like Killua, he just seems so schizo and not in a good way - one second he's alright, chilling and fun, but the next he becomes this brooding brat which is so annoying.

Gon and Leorio I love as characters though, which makes the show up til where I am now a little disappointing because those two are the ones least developed yet. But I suppose that will come in time.

I've truly missed a show like this, ever since I discovered Naruto (which I subsequently stopped watching after 70 or so episodes) way back when. This show just gives out this happy aura and I'm psyched to what will follow these initial hunter-trials.

Yeah, it took some time to grow on me too, some like Kurapika, others don't, more development for him will come but i'm not sure it will change your view of the character. Killua's tricky too, he acts like a child most of the time however he was raised by a family of assassins and so will some times go on pointless killings, this will change little by little.

I warn you that in Hunter X Hunter there's not really good and evil, some main characters may have to do questionable things (like Killua did), and the tone usually remains happy and liveable besides the horrible things going on, at first i didn't like this fact, but now it's one of my favourite things with the show.

I also like Leorio, at the exams he does get developed, but he doesn't get as much screen-time as the others, while Gon kind of gets developed very slowly, but from what i heard happening in the manga that development is worth it. I quite like the dynamic between those four.

Good to know you're liking it, update us from time to time please :woot:

Have now see episode 11 to 20
Oh god the slowness is almost killing me. I was a little worried at the beginning of the last trials when they said they would be on the island for a week, I suspected it meant that we would be at this stage for many many episodes now .. and I was right. The island-test was fun in the beginning with Gon training and stalking the card-dude, but then it just became unnecessary lengthy. And the incredibly boring fight-test was just uninteresting. Should be fun now that it is finally over and things can (hopefully) happen in a little faster pace, as it did in the first episodes of the series. Episode 21 is impossible to get hold of so I'll skip that and jump directly to 22 which according to wikipedia seems to be a bit more eventful without missing anything of value.

I didn't really find the pace slow, but then again, i'm accostumed to long ongoing animes, Episode 21 was Gon and friends deciding to go rescue Killua.

I warn you that while it's a fight shonen the arcs aren't full of unending battles, the conflicts are many times more personal and tactical, when there are fights they are relatively short and down to what matters. The next 2 arcs are very short, lasting some 15 episodes in total before Yorknew Arc, many say they only began to like HXH around some time vefore Yorknew so i advise you to in least reach that arc.

The arc before Yorknew isn't amazing but a lot of important things are explained there so i don't advise you to skip episodes.

Oh I have no plans to drop this show just yet, even if it sounds like I'm complaining a lot, I am very entertained by it :)

Good to know, if you're still watching how far are you?

The bomber was finally revealed, i like how it was done that before and even after he was revealed he still looks the same, it makes him more realistic, as oposed to him suddenly becoming a badass all powerful villain.

For those that followed the original anime and stopped after the OVAs, the anime is reaching that part, which is the chimera ants arc

Don't mind that character's design loking like Cell, he's a very deep character and you'll notice there aren't many characters in manga or anime like him.

For those that watched the original anime and the OVAs now's the perfect time to start watching Hunter, as it's the begining of the new arc:

Gon and Killua are hired to investigate a strange insect leg that washed up on a beach. Genetic testing determines that the leg belongs to an abnormally large queen Chimera Ant which just happens to wash up on the shore of an island called the NGL (Neo Green Life). The Chimera Ants proceed to wipe most of the population out and spawn hundreds of offspring for next generation before Gon, Killua, and Kite arrive to stop her.

As somebody that has read the manga this arc is very good, the plot's very well done and offers some interesting views on humanity, good part of it is even set on a country that greatly reminds of Nort Korea, in fact it was inspired by it. Character development is also top notch, so i recoment every anime fan to watch it.

You did? They must have been quite expensive, what episodes does your set have?

I actually just bought 1 of the older dvd box sets the other day. Weeee!
By the way, if you found it in a near store and bought it for around 20 dollars then let me just warn you that there are people selling them for 600 on the internet.

While i wait for the hiatos to end i decided to post about this series, with a volume cover along with some information for those that want to pick the series.

Let's start

Volume1cover.jpg

Part 1: What is a Hunter?

It seems like after Dragon Ball, every shonen centers around a certain "profession" or way of life, in Naruto it is ninjas, in One Piece it's pirates, in Bleach it's shinigamies, in Fairy Tail it's mages, in Toriko it's food itself and in Reborn! it's mafia. So, from the title itself you can see that Hunter X Hunter centers on hunters.

1000px-Hunters_Association.jpg

But what is a Hunter?

In the universe of this manga, Hunters are individuals who devote themselves to tracking down priceless items, mystical places, and the unseen wonders of the world. However, to be classified as an Hunter, that person also has to get through the "Hunter Examination", after passing it, they get a Hunter License.

I will talk about more of the Hunter License later, but the license gives its owner multiple benefits, including the possibility to commit murder without facing any charges. Due to this fact, many people are interested in becoming Hunters, even if only to have a better life.

The ones who test and pass potential hunters are part of the Hunter Association, which is headed by a chairman. The chairman could be considered the leader of all hunters, since he's the one who looks after the organization.

Certain Hunters can be awarded with stars and entitled to different licenses issued by the Hunters Association for significant contributions to society.

  • 1 Star (Single Hunter) - Given to hunters who have made a significant contribution to a part of society.
  • 2 Star (Double Hunter) - Given to hunters who have made significant contributions to several fields.
  • 3 Star (Triple Hunter) - Given to hunters who have made extraordinary contributions to society over several fields. This is the rarest and most difficult rank to obtain, and is considered a great honor. The number of 3-Star hunters is about 10.

Love the manga and the original anime, but the new anime of it has got me so pumped. It is amazing and the art is great and crystal clear, at first I was worried that they would downplay the gore and violence, but they didn't. I am excited for the Gon vs Neferpitou fight coming up soon. I hope the manga comes back soon as well, there is just so much of the world of HunterxHunter to tell.

Agreed, he has such an expansive world, this could go on for as long as One Piece and Naruto, yet at this pace i'm not sure the writter will even reach volume 50

Part 2: Hunter Exams and Hunter License

The Hunter Exam is a yearly event that one must pass in order to become a Hunter, an elite member of humanity. These exams consist of several tests and stages and so far 288 Hunter exams have taken place.

Passing the Hunter Exam grants one a Hunter License which is very beneficial. Aside from the recognition the license holder enjoys, the benefits are:

  1. 95% of all public facilities can be used at no cost. Furthermore, all such services are provided at first class.
  2. Unrivaled freedom to travel around the world.Access is granted to about 90% of countries which normally restrict the entry of outsiders, and access to 75% of areas that the general public is prohibited from entering.
  3. Almost no legal responsibility for murder.
  4. The ability to sell the Hunter License as a valuable collector's item. Though only the original owner of a Hunter License can take advantage of the normal benefits, it can be still sold for enough money to support the seller for at least 7 generations in luxury.
  5. The ability to use the license as collateral for a zero-interest loan of 100 million Jenny (approximately 90 million yen) at any bank.
  6. Access to the secret Hunters-Only Website, where secret intelligence about various subjects, uploaded by other Hunters, can be purchased.
Location

The location changes each year along with the stages of the exam. And it is impossible to find. In order to get to the site, the applicant must find a navigator (a person or magical beasts that can lead them to the exam site).

Time

The Hunter Exam occurs once every year in early January. The registration ends on December 31st.

Difficulty

Due to the large numbers of people who want to become hunters, the Exam phases tend to be very hard. Many end up dead or handicapped. The Hunters Association hires people to "trim the fat", that is, to eliminate all the weak applicants that aren't worthy of taking the main exam, since the Association doesn't have the time or the resources to test everyone.Navigators themselves might test them to see if they are fit.
Moreover, statistics show that:

  • 1 out of 10,000 people make it to the main exam
  • The rate of rookies passing the exam is once every 3 years
  • Isaac Netero stated that sometimes rookies never pass or reach the final phase for about ten years and all of a sudden a group of interesting rookies reaches the final phase at once. This delights the chairman and usually he makes the final stages so that most of the applicants pass if they have what it takes.
The Exam

Applicants

The great importance of being a Hunter draws millions of people, despite the fact that fatalities are quite common.
Applicants are each given a badge with an assigned number once they are officially taking the exam. These badges also have transmitters that help the Hunters committee track the examinees and monitor their progress, or find them if they are lost. If one loses his badge then the committee won't bother searching for him in case he failed or was trapped.

Stages

Usually in every exam there are about 5 or 6 stages. Since the location of the exam changes, so does the location of the phases, and its goal.

Examiners

Examiners are elite hunters who are examining the applicants without pay. They change every year and each examiner assigns the examinees a different task. Attacking an examiner will result in immediate disqualification.

The 2011 anime has been added to Netflix

https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2014-08-01/hunter-x-hunter-available-on-netflix/.77199

For anyone interested to try it, i just warn you that it at first seems like a generic shonen, but as it goes on, continuously breaks the troupes.

I just got up to the Chimara Ants arc. So far nothing has touched the Yorkcity Arc. I've been reading up on the series and I heard they're ending the anime and manga very soon. I haven't read the manga but I read the anime is ending with the 148th episode next month. :csad: I just started to get hooked on this anime too.
