Hurricane Laura

This hurricane appears to have escalated pretty quickly:

It reminds me of Harvey. That one blew up fast out of nowhere in the northern Gulf too, just a little to the west of Laura. The only saving grace is that this one looks like it won't come on top of the largest population centers, but still stay safe everyone in the area.

Yeah, its going to be pretty bad. They were making no bones about how bad the surge is going to be.

I’m pretty sure Katrina was a cat 5

regardless, Laura is still pretty strong. Hope everybody was able to get out of her way
Oh right, thanks. That's what I heard on a video but it looks like it strengthened to a 5 whereas this one might have weakened on landfall.

Both look devastating though. I wish everyone the best who's in the path of it.

Katrina was a 5 at one point, but made landfall at a 3. Only four hurricanes made landfall in the mainland US at a 5 (The Labor Day Hurricane that hit the Keys in 1935, Camille which hit New Orleans in 1969, Andrew which hit Miami in 1992, and Michael that hit the Florida Panhandle a couple of years ago).

Laura came through and did a lot of damage but nothing too serious in my area fortunately. No power for a day and a half and no internet for nearly 4 but I'm back. Lot of cleaning up to do.
