It‘s the first competition week and our contestants have put their game faces on (and hopefully some game vocal chords too).

THIS... IS HYPE! IDOL!

Ten of those twelve familiar faces from the Auditions round are back as our Hype! Idol finalists!

We thought we’d start off by having the first theme be a personal one. We asked that the Idol-wannabes find songs that best represent them in some way or another. But it’s not as easy as it sounds, and we ended up with some very interesting song choices.

Voting will begin at the end of our show.

We, once again, are graced with the presence of our fantastic judges: Fitness Guru, Colossal Spoons, lovely Hype! Community Moderator, DBella and self-acclaimed User Name Expert, Erzengel. Now what those specialties have to do with judging a singing competition, I don’t know. At least they’re pretty. Okay, well at least DBella’s pretty. :o

And, of course, my faithful sidekick and cleaning wench, Showtime, will play host as well.

Now, stay tuned because you won‘t want to miss this epic display of amazing talent!*

I thought you told me i was a "clean sidekick and faithful wench"? I guess false advertising is permitted on the internet.

Anyway, here is a quick word from our sponsor:

Good day. I'm Bob Ross, some of you may know of me because I painted that happy little picture with happy little trees and a mountain or from that other happy little picture with happy little trees and a bigger mountain.

However, I'm not here to talk about me or happy little trees. I'm here to talk about my buddy Bamfer and my other buddy Showtime and their happy little game. Now I just want everybody to know that Hype Idol is a competition but it should be looked at in a loving way. For posters who want to criticize other people's singing ability, just take a minute and think of happy little trees. This should get you past your demonic feelings.

I also want you to think of our happy little furry friend the raccoon. When you see them skurrying along the interstate, please brake, they're happy little mammals like yourself.

We’re off to a promising start tonight with Shlee who will be performing Phantom of the Opera’s Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again.

Shlee - Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again, Phantom of the Opera

How‘d she start off the night, judges?

Colossal Spoons: "Beautiful voice, but you already know this. I don't "get" opera unfortunately so I've no clue what you were signing about :(”

DBella: “OMG! Shlee!! I love you!! You're awetastic! If you don't get to the final two or win this, I'd be enraged! Keep up the great work and I look forward to your performance every week from now on. *O the pressure! Hehe!*”

Erzengel: “This hosting gig would be worth it if I can listen to you perform every week. :o

Outstanding performance. Phantom of my Opera is my favorite.”

An interesting song choice of Tainted Love, originally by Softcell, will be rocked out tonight by Monster.

Monster - Tainted Love, Soft Cell

Judges, a good performance from Monster?

Colossal Spoons: “Decent performance. Again, you've got a good voice but you should have attacked that song with more badassery. Tainted Love isn't about pickin up the ladies.”

DBella: “An improvement from last week. I thought you're good. Not blown away but good enough to carry you to next week.”

Erzengel: “Pretty fluid performance, a few off key moments but overall I enjoyed it. ”

Green Lantern’s next with his rendition of Eric Clapton’s Layla.

Green Lantern - Layla, Eric Clapton

Did he pull it off, judges?

Colossal Spoons: "Take the mic out of your mouth. Maybe then you could stop Layla from leaving :o"

DBella: “Your 'entrance' startled me. I think if you had gone a little softer, that might not have happened. I don't think this is the best song choice for you for you're out of tune, not totally, but quite a bit.”

Erzengel: “Uh, well, a little flat and out of tune in some areas. But good effort? Maybe this wasn't the best song for you?”

Majik1387 wishes he could be Out There like Disney’s Hunchback of Notre Dame.

Majik1387 - Out There, Hunchback of Notre Dame

Judges, what do you think?

Colossal Spoons: “Good choice of song dude. And seriously, if you get a chance to use it; you gotta sing Satan from South Park singing "Up There" :D”

DBella: “Disney tune!! I think you made a pretty good song choice as it suits your vocal range. I agree with Erz that you did start off a little too fast but the middle and last part were good. I like it.”

Erzengel: “This is probably one of my favorite Disney songs. You started off too fast but once you settled in you really hit it and did a really great job.“

Hopefully knowsbleed won‘t be Gone Until November like Wyclef Jean after this round.

knowsbleed - Gone Till November, Wyclef Jean

Spoons, Bella, Erz?

Colossal Spoons: "Hey Jackie Chan, think you could go away till next November too? :o"

DBella: “A MUCH, MUCH better performance than last week. You erased my doubt... you CAN carry a tune. I hope to see you back next week.”

Erzengel: “I wasn't feeling it til the middle of it, actually I preferred when you did the "jamaican" rifts actually. :o ”

Will Cmill216 hit it off with the Gorillaz‘ Every Planet We Reach Is Dead? Let‘s see.

Cmill216 - Every Planet We Reach is Dead, Gorillaz

Judges?

Colossal Spoons: “Good job dawg, no more long notes for you though lol.”

DBella: “Gorillaz! Are they ever going to come up with a new album? :( Anyway, I thought your performance was decent. I thought that it's an improvement from last week.”

Erzengel: “I wasn't sure at first but like with Majik's performance, once you got settled in, it got better.”

A daring performance of the internet-famed TayZonday’s Chocolate Rain by Merk is next

Merk - Chocolate Rain, TayZonday

The judges:

Colossal Spoons: "Awesome, just awesome. I have no clue why I like this damn song so much. Wish I could "see" you sing it haha."

DBella: “I admit, I wasn't familiar with the song and this is the first time I've heard it but I did check out the original song and although you didn't sing the song in the same vocal style as Tay, I thought you did a pretty good job being yourself and singing it your way.”

Erzengel: “This is just okay, not horrible but I wasn't knocked off my feet either. Vocally it was decent . And obviously you don't have the same vocal stylings of a TayZonday so this may have not been the best song to showcase your talent.”

ObakeTora sings out All True Man, originally performed by Alexander Oneal.

ObakeTora - All True Man, Alexander Onealhttp://media.putfile.com/hype-idol-audition-2

How did he do this week, judges?

Colossal Spoons: “Great performance again man. You either sang to nasally or the sound quality was bad. My only complaint.”

DBella: “I prefer last week's performance to be honest but I must say that you are one of the, if not the, one to beat in this competition. Like it. A lot!”

Erzengel: “Wonderful. You stay strong through the entire performance. It cuts out too quickly but I thought from what I heard it was excellent.”

Chances are Star‘ll pique some interest with her performance of Madonna‘s hit, Like a Virgin.

Star - Like a Virgin, Modonna

So, judges, did she touch your hearts?

Colossal Spoons: “I was tappin my feet dawgette! You were able to hit some of the high notes. Some but not all, kudos though..”

DBella: “It's a last minute effort, isn't it? :( I think you could've done better if you given yourself time. Sounds like you had the music on too loud and wasn't able to hear yourself. Not too bad.”

Erzengel: “A little flat in some areas and it seemed like you weren't giving your all. Almost like you had headphones on and just were singing in a room by yourself. But, still decent. ”

And we end the night with a David Bowie hit from one of our very own Young Americans, JP.

JP - Young Americans, David Bowie

Judges, how did he end the show?

Colossal Spoons: "I imagine you had entirely too much fun singing that song haha. Good job."

DBella: “I like it! I enjoyed listening to this quite a lot. Nice change from last week, JP!”

Erzengel: “I really enjoyed this one. Not a huge Bowie fan but still, you did a bang up job. I like the different direction you took from your "broadway" performance" last week. ”

Done listening to all of tonight's performances? Then you're ready to vote.

The polls will be open until the results are posted tomorrow. You are allowed to vote for as many contestants as you'd like.

VOTE HERE

Tune in tomorrow night to see who will be leaving Hype! Idol!

Aw, I just had to be last!

Uh, vote for me!

*holds up her number and flashes a cheesy grin, waving at the audience* *mouths the words 'Vote for Shlee! I'm number one!'*

Gotta say, I like the voting dynamic. That way we can't see who's winning and losing during the match. :yay:

I just hope that this won't be just another popularity contest and that people will vote based on who they like as a singer/performer.

Good luck to all!

Some great performances in there

Well done guys and gals :)

This sucks. There's no Simon.

I knew I shoulda signed on to judge. :down
